Extreme customizable, no limits, have the pitch, have the fat, the kick. Digital precision for control a pure analog engine. Even the overpriced Jupiter 8 is not customizable like the A6.The Andromeda is Unique.
Amazing instrument, you can "craft" unique patches totally different today than
u did yesterday and is no like other synthesizers push #10 and everybody have same sound like you, is extreme customizable, powerful, have the fat and the clear crystal quality sound, 50 pounds of pure analog music gear. It is a classic synth.
So sad that its no longer being made, and I seriously can't understand one bit of critizism concerning the sound, its vivid, warm, atmospheric and not to mention HUGE sounding chords and some of the most beautiful pads and strings I've heard from any instrument, I don't care if they have their faults, if I should ever be so lucly to get my hands on one I would treat it better than my life :P
@GuantanamoDance what a stupid comment, there is plenty of romance to be found in any instrument - if you need one of the greatest polysynths ever to find it, you should blame yourself and not other synthesizers.
best polyphonic analogsynth ever, soundwise and featurewise.
don't be fooled with the headphones or main outs, it only desperately needs the middle frequencies reduced and the hights boosted, best done with a simple mixer.
OMG! That pic.....an Alesis Andromeda with a Mini-Moog on top....THAT's DOWNRIGHT PORNOGRAPHIC!! Beautiful! What a crime the Andromeda isn't in production any longer. :-(
much warmer than a virus ti but not as warm as my vintage gear which includes a rev 2 prophet 5 oberheim obx 8 voice, Roland JP8 and a memorymoog plus but still incredidbly nice and unique sounding. It sounds analog but has a digital edge too it which is good for cutting through the mix I might have to find one of these on ebay.
At 1:26 i paused the video, because I know they were breaking the golden rule, so to say, by creating a cover of Where The Streets Have No Name, Rattle and Hum, or some other Brian Eno production. A colleague of mine said , "I've got to have one! " Hope they are as resilient at the original Alesis QUADRASynth I own. A small studio could do well, with the Andromeda. Thanks, Douglas :)
This is the most beautiful and most outstanding vid of an "Andy". Thanks a thousand times over and over again GCom67! - As a very frequent flier I had the best flight ever with British Airways, cuz I've got my newly purchased "Andy" and a Roland Fantom with me. I'm so happy being an owner of an "Andy" - damn it ! I'm almost having my PC keyboard flooded with tears of joy when writing this:;)
This is the video that made me fall in love with the Andromeda and I can never thank you enough for it. I bought a used one off ebay for $3,200.It's my first Synthesizer. I am devoting my life to this alien machine.
so beatifull!! I know that this is a true analog synth and the virus Access TI is a Virtual Analog Synth... But in compare....This synth sounds too much warm than the Access? could anyone compare this one to the access?
@tonato17 i dunno. I would really like a virus, but from what i have heard, they are just too perfect. Like VSTs. Whereas the analog grit of synths like the prophets, OBs, or the above andromeda just sort of makes the synth what it is. Really it comes down to what you as a musician look for in sound. I aspire to acquire both, but i'd go for the alesis first.
virus is thin and digital. i don't know what people see in it. virus sounds like rob papen synths. i d much rather use alesis andromeda - the most powerful analog polysynth to date.
I saved up and bought a Virus Ti. I honestly cannot see what all the fuss is about. It sounds no different to any decent VST and has to be the most bloated synth on earth. Not really my bag, I know many love it but I sold it asap and would never have another. Much preferred the A,B,C models than the Ti
@lavakava Define powerful. It's just levels of voltage coming from a quarter inch jack. That can be recorded and played and simulated. Is it as powerful as a stick of dynamite? As powerful as a little mouse farting under the floorboards? Does it move you? Does it not move you? What is power? The power to do what? And what, pray tell, is this power good for? Power used for only jealousy and pride is nought but a sign of weakness. Power for joy...Well, some doubtless have other opinion.
It depends on what you want in a synth. I don't need a $3000 instrument when I can get even more work done with a $1500 used TI keyboard. I make hip hop, synth pop and house. The virus is more suitable for such genres.
@lavakava there is nothing thin and digital about the virus's inherent sound unless you intentionally program it to sound that way. of course the andromeda has a richer sound and the raw oscillator sound is superior, but the virus is very capable of similarly warm and massive sounds if programmed well and run through light effects. considering how hard andromedas are to find these days and run for $3000+, a $1200 TI snow is a great option for those on a budget.
This arrangement made me think of only one thing (other than it being a fantastic piece of music): The future is the past, and the past is the future.
You could make money from some of theese patches, you know.
Many people own the Andromeda, but very few of them really know how to program it well. The patches that come with this "analog superstar" is not mouch to brag about, but start turning some knobs, and it will reveal all it's musical beauty...
Needless to say: I've got one. (And I'll never sell it...)
yea sounds very nice but i bought spectrasonics omnisphere a few weeks ago and tbh it sounds as good as this thing.
Yeah i know, moving controllers and knobs with the mouse sux but if you have a good midicontroller like the novation remote sl MKII you can achieve the same and better results for about 500 bucks instead of 2.5k for a used one
It sounds great, but looks impossibly complicated. Just my first impression from watching this vid. If you tweak all those knobs and arrive at the precise sound you want, can you save it exactly as-is and recall it later? (yes, I'm a noob at this and probably shouldn't buy one of these)
Alesis has captured analog sound in a complete digital age package, this is a synth that other brands will be modeling after for a long time. Keep it up alesis!
Well it sounds fantastic, but I'm not sure if it's something I want to buy just yet. All of the modern big-ticket keyboards are pretty much the same to me: Fantom, Triton, the Nords, etc. I know this is billed as an analog synth, but can you sweep thorough really nasty, awesome effects by twisting knobs like you can with, say, a Prophet 5...or are the presets hard to deviate from?
I'd like to know how to make that last sound in the video. It's really impressive. I love it. I've owned an andromeda for 3 years, and it was all because of that patch.
The a6 is a great synth. The only reason I sold mine was because it was TOO MUCH synth for me. Meaning . . . it was too damn good. Sounds crazy, but the modulation options and effects and filters and pre filters and . . . the list goes on. I started to build an arsenal of more "simple" synths. I regret buying this as my first synthesizer because its NOT a good beginner synth. This thing is for synthesis pros IMO.
I love this video - this was one of the impulse factors in buying what I am so glad I did (after the initial wow factor, this gorgeous synth just amazes me every time I use it!)
God, it sounds like a massively in-tune Yamaha CS 80 with a Moog filter and oscillator thrown in for good measure. I want one. Sounds fatter than my old memorymoog or OB-8
I have an Alesis QS 6.1 and this is what I wish I had gotten instead, but mine was such a good deal and now I only use it as a Midi keyboard. But...this synth here is what hardware stuff is all about...But...don't diss all software synths because layers 1-2 programs together can give you just as good results if you have a good ear and creativity.
Appears to be a dream machine but it is really the player who makes the machine "sing". Excellent playing and programming here. It not only displays the rich analog textures (difference as great as vinyl or tape over digital), the creamy textures are all there but what is really extraordinary is the musical sensibilities of the artist. Kudo on the composition. --Sam
Thank you so much for actually uploading a decent demonstration of thins synth not just another video playing a bunch of badly played crap noise from some one who can't program a synth or shitty over played samey trance sounds. Great sounds!
I think...... one of these with a NOVATION SUPERNOVA ...and Virus T1 would be killer. If Alesis ever put a modular together.... im sure it would be killer.. but too expensive. Or if they make it like Nord did on their modualar....... sorta that area
a room full of modular synths, al playing at the same time individually programmed. that's an andromeda. monstrous. I'm a happy owner. I'll never sell it. Still learning how this beauty works. I hardly believe there will ever be made an analog synth that can beat this. The Andromeda is a big finish to the analog synth era, when digital synths arrived
I play several synths including a jupiter 8. It is one of those things you have to experience to truly understand, I just think analog sounds better, not to mention it's way cooler. I love my digital synths but the workhorse in the studio and on stage is good ole Jupie.
@mattinator28 I agree man. Analog synths are an experience. The andromeda changed how I thought about synthesis, aaand music theory! Somehow, having all those knobs on a dedicated instrument sitting right in front of your eyes lets your brain see things differently.
How's your Jupiter sound in contrast with the Andromeda?
@MARANTZamp Im going to have to disagree. The best analog sounding vst on the planet, I actually believe this little secret turned my PC into an analog monster synth: Vaz Modular.
@Cambaudio Ok recreate the demo for the sunsyn the guy electronicvibes have here on youtube please and put it up. You will not even come close in recreating it if you ask me, you "think" you have an analog monster, until you actually hear one.
personally I choose hardware of software anyday. I just don't enjoy using computers for producing sounds. the only thing I use computers for is DAW recording.
@MARANTZamp software and digital hardware do not contain the natural transients of analog synths, its the transients that create the interest, its like a fairy orgy. Now imagine a robot orgy - thats your digital and software. Robots will never be fairies, and if they ever do im sure they will need counsilling
I have a question, hope someone that really knows can answer-how does the Andromeda compare with high end older analog synths such as the Jupiter 8 and other comparable synths of the day ?
More flexible. Different sound. Why not just look at the specs and listen to some demos? If you want beautiful pads, there's nothing quite like OB-X, but it's not as practical, flexible or reliable (i think) as an Andromeda. If you want a "warmer" sounding synth, check out Omega 8 (CODE). Discrete analog, sounds great, and is very expensive.

watch?v=VOrUddjdd6U
More audio here: novamusik. com/search.aspx?type=Model&keyword=2709&mid=38
Every synth has a certain character which makes it unique. But when it comes to flexibility, programmability and control (the jp8 for example, doesn't even have midi) the A6 is unbeatable.
very very powerfull en deep synth, i have one in my studio too. eventhough it's a newskool analog it absolutely roars as a beast and can be subtile and silky too. very versatile and unlimited routing possibilities. there is no way you can replace an analog beast by a crappy vst. true musicians enjoy a good piece of powerfull gear
Back in the day, I had a minimoog...sold it 23 years ago. I still want to cry. Today I own a few soft synths as well as a Nord rack 2x, Virus b, Roland V-synth.. After I heard the A6, I am now selling all my shit & buying an Andromeda!!! Now I know why I still play keyboards for the past 36 years!!! You can "Feel the sound thru the keys" F**king Mind blowing sound/Power!!! Not in the same ballpark!!! O.K. I had a little to much smoke :)
AMAZING....simply AMAZING...the Andromeda is what being analog is all about...It pretty much started the comeback of Analog synthesizers...not that they ever went away really but the modern analog rather :)
@InnerflamesUnLtd Not unless you want to consider yourself Rip Van Winkle. This synth has been available for about a decade. It's life is over now. The A6 fades into history as another failed Alesis product that is discontinued.
I own a virus. I don't care about analog vs digital. But damn, this pad sounded majestic and i know my virus cannot makes this sound.

God, it sounds like a massively in-tune Yamaha CS 80 with a Moog filter and oscillator thrown in for good measure. I want one. Sounds fatter than my old memorymoog or OB-8

I think the Andromeda is now discontinued......................How will I get it now?
Trigger2O12 1 year ago

Or if they make it like Nord did on their modualar....... sorta that area

its sad that alesis ended production...the most powerful analog polysynth ever: 16 parts, 16 voices...prophet 08 has only 2 parts, 8 voices.
i hope someone remakes this.

a room full of modular synths, al playing at the same time individually programmed. that's an andromeda. monstrous. I'm a happy owner. I'll never sell it. Still learning how this beauty works. I hardly believe there will ever be made an analog synth that can beat this. The Andromeda is a big finish to the analog synth era, when digital synths arrived
pbmikey1984 2 years ago
congrats, im an owner too and i never gonna give it out of hand as well! also confused with all these knobs sometimes ;o)
but it is a real monsterrrr of a synth!!!!

I play several synths including a jupiter 8. It is one of those things you have to experience to truly understand, I just think analog sounds better, not to mention it's way cooler. I love my digital synths but the workhorse in the studio and on stage is good ole Jupie.
mattinator28 2 years ago
@mattinator28 I agree man. Analog synths are an experience. The andromeda changed how I thought about synthesis, aaand music theory! Somehow, having all those knobs on a dedicated instrument sitting right in front of your eyes lets your brain see things differently.
How's your Jupiter sound in contrast with the Andromeda?
Neyowolf 1 year ago
nope...software always lacks somethin, and is not as enjoyable as hardware!!
MARANTZamp 2 years ago 23
@MARANTZamp I hope you mean by hardware --> analog hardware. Because digital hardware is just software like VST in a hardware box !
Keybern 1 year ago
@MARANTZamp Im going to have to disagree. The best analog sounding vst on the planet, I actually believe this little secret turned my PC into an analog monster synth: Vaz Modular.
Cambaudio 1 year ago
@Cambaudio Ok recreate the demo for the sunsyn the guy electronicvibes have here on youtube please and put it up. You will not even come close in recreating it if you ask me, you "think" you have an analog monster, until you actually hear one.
M3sslah 1 year ago
@Cambaudio softsynths are great
a) if you're on a budget
b) if you don't have the space
c) you just generally prefer working on computers
personally I choose hardware of software anyday. I just don't enjoy using computers for producing sounds. the only thing I use computers for is DAW recording.
kingofkeyboards 1 year ago
@MARANTZamp software and digital hardware do not contain the natural transients of analog synths, its the transients that create the interest, its like a fairy orgy. Now imagine a robot orgy - thats your digital and software. Robots will never be fairies, and if they ever do im sure they will need counsilling

I have a question, hope someone that really knows can answer-how does the Andromeda compare with high end older analog synths such as the Jupiter 8 and other comparable synths of the day ?
urheadonastick 2 years ago
More flexible. Different sound. Why not just look at the specs and listen to some demos? If you want beautiful pads, there's nothing quite like OB-X, but it's not as practical, flexible or reliable (i think) as an Andromeda. If you want a "warmer" sounding synth, check out Omega 8 (CODE). Discrete analog, sounds great, and is very expensive.

In terms of sound there's always room for debate.
Every synth has a certain character which makes it unique. But when it comes to flexibility, programmability and control (the jp8 for example, doesn't even have midi) the A6 is unbeatable.
SyStmz 2 years ago
very very powerfull en deep synth, i have one in my studio too. eventhough it's a newskool analog it absolutely roars as a beast and can be subtile and silky too. very versatile and unlimited routing possibilities. there is no way you can replace an analog beast by a crappy vst. true musicians enjoy a good piece of powerfull gear
TheZentradi 2 years ago 5
this only proves u dont know much about digital... computers arent powerfull enough YET, thats the only problem.

O.K. I had a little to much smoke :)

who in their right mind? ME
I own 8 hardware synths and I don't miss VST's at all...they simply do not have the character and personality of real hardware.

Would I be correct in thinking this is a monster of a synth being slept on?
InnerflamesUnLtd 2 years ago 15
@InnerflamesUnLtd Not unless you want to consider yourself Rip Van Winkle. This synth has been available for about a decade. It's life is over now. The A6 fades into history as another failed Alesis product that is discontinued.
