One of the greatest Blonde songs of all. This was from Group Therapy in 2002. She was 42-43 at the time, but the thing with Johnette is that she always seemed to immerse herself in the story of each video, like a great character actor completely dissapearing in a particular role. It always seemed to me that each one of her songs was in its own individual universe that she created to show us that "Life is beautiful and terrible and strange".
Being a new fan I'm not sure of the chronology of this song. Is Johnette really showing that much age, or is she made up to look that way in this video?
@tendersin i thank god fer this song ,sitting down in the basement fer 2 yrs cus my wife dont talk to about anything but dancing with the stars, listens to pink ,radio shit and says my music is shit ....thanks to my wife person i have rediscovered all the stuff she made me throw away
@MacDon590 Wow can totally relate.Old lady could never relate to any of my music I remember "Gimme Shelter" was playing on the radio, and the look she gave me was, this is absolute crap and how could anybody like this (actually she might've actually said it) Only problem, she finally had enuf of me after 12 years, and a 4 yr old daughter. And I would give anything to be holding her right now listening to god awful rap and her god awful "Lifetime" movies.Maybe you allready no, but hold on to yours
@snafux10 still still still awesome just aint the word, cause she's beyond the word and lives in THAT groove where song happens, and sings a singer is forever...
Beautiful song, beautiful message. Johnette is one of the finest souls you'll ever meet.
@gcbarone I caught the CB fever when I saw Pump Up the Volume. Ooh, boy, I had it bad after that. Can't believe it's been 20 years. I can still listen for hours and it's still as marvelous as it was the first time.
Pick up the phone, i know your there! This song is simple, and complexed, and great...so don't you cry, it'll give you lines around your eyes!!! Am i the only one who thinks of giving raspberries at about 2:45, guess so, they blew a square hole right threw her, LOL!!
damn... her voice hasn't aged even slightly. it was always mature, but its as smooth and powerful as it was 20 years ago. and she's still cute as hell at 52 ; )
the "are you ok? I swear to God I gotta get out of this house I miss the days when I'd just not come home at all.." and the "Things get better everyday you stay alive then I'm amazed every day that the sun decides to rise every minute, every hour, is another chance to change life is beautiful & terrible & strange." parts always get to me.
I think this song is one of the best songs Concrete Blonde ever did and I am A HUGE fan. I could not agree more with your comment. "It seemed like we would live forever, life was not this hard, no we felt nothing much at all, and it felt great". Always gets to me too.
This is, in my opinion, not only one of the best CB songs ever, but definitely the best video they ever made. The treatment/translation from song to video was amazing and perfect and I don't know who's directly responsible for it, but she/he/they deserve not only my applause but some sort of award as well. Excellent video. Love it love it love it!
accomplished musicians that actually practiced for their performances.thats right practiced,a word these kids today are completely unfamiliar with.cb shows you how it should be done!
This is my birthday song. "Life is beautiful and terrible and strange"...simple lyrics, but so true. I am so glad I got to meet Concrete Blonde -truly wonderful people and incredibly talented. Johnette has been one of my idols/heroes for years. Darkpickle, you did a wonderful job with this video! Thank you!
I would love to hear Johnette and Leonard Cohen do a song. Who else thinks that would be an awesome duo

Do song lyrics get any better than that. Not really.
