Nicholas II was much much more beautiful than his cousin.
Nicholas eyes were amazing, attractive. The way he was looking at was more enthralling. he had a beautiful face, he looked much more viril, more masculine.
@bobduvar Considering the intimacy between Nicholas & Alexandra, I don't think anyone would suggest he was a terrible lover. Selective - yes, private - yes, terrible - no.
Agree, the last Czar comes across as man's man as well as that all so elusive quality, a gentleman.
The family resemblance did pass through the generations. Today, Prince Michael of Kent looks remarkably like both George V & Nicholas II. Lord Frederick Windsor, his son, looks like them, too. Handsome men all.
absolutely not true that victoria was the czar's grandmother. he was related to king george through his mother. the czar and the king's mothers were sisters [both danish]
alexandra was victoria's favorite granddaughter. in fact, without their beards they did not look at all alike.
Yeah they were related and look like twins but that didn't make George V help his cousin to flea into Britain, he was scared and instead let his cousins- HIS FLESH AND BLOOD perish, murdered! Now they have lost some of their family history in Russia - Russia is more fucked up now than it was before the Tsar.
@TheQueenl92 Could be that George V was concerned that the English people--upon seeing Czar Nicholas more frequently--would have noticed the near identical likeness of Nicholas to George V, and that both men closely resembled Edward VII (even though they were only genetically related through their mothers, as the official story goes). The public might have put it together, and that may have caused problems in the succession.
@MsTruNorth wow you make complete sense! All families have secrets and they are maternal relatives yet they BOTH look like George V father, I have never looked at it that way......hmmmmmmmm
@TheQueenl92 Yes, it's the only thing that makes both mens' strong resemblance to Edward VII make sense. Edward VII was well known in his own time for carousing sexually--both before and during his marriage. Edward VII--when Prince of Wales spent several years carousing in Paris. Nicholas and George V are only about 3 years apart in age, so its quite possible Edward VII had sexual relations with his wife-to-be's sister when he travelled to Denmark to check out the proposed bride.
George V and Czar Nicholas are related their common Danish ancestry (George V's mother was Alexandra of Denmark, Nicholas' mother was "Minnie" Alexandra's sister). What is odd is that George V and Nicholas look so much like Edward VII (George's father, and perhaps Nicholas's?). Edward VII was known for indiscreet carousing before and after his marriage. An explanation for the resemblance of Czar Nicolas to George V and Edward VII may be that Edward VII had a fling with his wife's sister?
queen victoria is the grandma so i guess it is expected since she is ike grandma to all royal houses in europe for quite sometime. still alittle creepy though
@fleurgi looooooool yeah they were into keeping the blue blood and marrying royalty, so they would marry their cousins, all European royals are related in some way
@telephilia They were probably half-brothers. It would be interesting to have genetics clear this up. It shouldn't matter to the English royal family since all the Romanovs are gone. George V's father (Edward VII) was notorious for sleeping around quite scandalously. He spent years in Paris carousing when he was Prince of Wales. He might have hooked up with his wife's sister, before or after his marriage, during one of these years in Paris. His wife's sister was the mother of Czar Nicholas.
@TheQueenl92 That's the official story. However, if they were related through their mothers, it does not explain why they both look like Edward VII, so much so that they looked like twins, does it?

I'm amused that people always remark on their striking similar appearance, lol. It shouldn't be such a surprise given that they WERE related.
