Whenever anyone in my family asks how someone's day went, and the day went kind of bad, the standard response is the Bill Melendez-Snoopy "Bleeeeaaaaaaaaah!"
Wow, did he ever hang in there. But he had to go sometime. Still, I was dreading it, because there are so few people left from that era of animation (the Golden Age, as the 1930s to 1960s are often called). And he was active and out there pretty much up until the end.
A man with 70 years of animation experience under his belt has left us. It's fascinating to me how a man who once worked at Disney would go on to become a pioneer in the what was then the new and highly stylized realm of limited-animation. I honestly believe that Melendez had captured the essence of the Peanuts strip in his works. May he be reunited with his old friend Charles Schulz in the Great Beyond.
Bill, thanks for your contribution to the entertainment industry. You and Charles Shultz really hit paydirt when you did A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965. I watch that every year, along with the other Peanuts classics like The Great Pumpkin and The Thanksgiving Special. Thanks for the memories, Bill.
he was my dads uncle

You ARE Snoopy, the coolest little dog on television. Charlie Brown just won't be the same without you.
