  • U DO SOUND LIKE DREW BARRYMORE!!PRETTY CAKE!

  • I am currently having great luck with store-bought fondant from Walmart. The brand is called Wilton. Give it a try. I bought a 1.5lb roll for $5. :) I would suggest more frosting and a thicker layer of fondant when you lay it on the cake. It should take a good amount of time to smooth it over. :)

  • Nice cake you should try rolling it out bigger maybe or I just roll out a small amount of fondant and press it in lightly and put a bit of water on my finger and blend it!

  • I HAVE THE SAME CAKE HOLDER! :D

  • I just rolled out my first batch of fondant yesterday. I have yet to put it atop a cake but i'm figuring if it tears or breaks, to just put one of the designs (in your case a star) over the imperfection.

  • you do sound like drew barrymore abit XD

  • Very cute idea. Has anyone tell you that you sound sorta like Drew Barrymore?

  • Ha, Drew Barrymore? No, I've never gotten that before, although I have been told I have a striking resemblance to Reese Witherspoon :) I don't see it, but I'll take it as a compliment.

  • @bloomincockroachers you do!!! very pretty cake!

  • cute, nice, and very clean looking!

  • if fondant is made from scratch try adding powdered sugar :)

  • Nice cake!

  • wow very creative!

  • You know, that split does not doin' anything. It's very good for bein' your very first cake. Good job!

  • That is too cute...especially for your first time...busting chocolate and all.

  • I had the same problem with my first and only fondant cake so far. But I found something out the other day! You are supposed to chill the cake in the fridge for a couple of minutes or something like that before you put the fondant on, so that the frosting will harden.. Good luck! Pretty cake!

  • Hi, I love the pattern and colors!!! This is def a trial and error situation.... just practice practice practice!! What i do is lay my fondant over my rolling pin to get it on the cake. Ya have to get the thickness JUST right, too thin it will tear. Too thick it will tear. But nice job in covering it up. NO cake it flawless, you just have to know how to cover up your mistakes. :) Good luck!

  • oh good, i wish you lots of luck!! :)

  • hey there! first off...cute cake! love the colors! About the spot that you're having trouble with...i found that you have to first roll out a lot more fondant than you think you'll need and then just trim the extra. Also, if you're fondant is cracking as or after you are or have put the fondant on, you might be handling it for too long...it tends to dry quickly. Also, i don't know how thick or thin you're rolling it out, but that could be a problem...good luck! hope i helped! :)

  • Thanks sugariesweet! I'm not sure why I ended up with a seam. I definitely rolled plenty out, and once I got it rolled out, I laid it onto the cake as quickly as I could. I think my problem was probably thickness, so this week I'll try again, and we'll see!
