I am not used to the speed at which it is played but - this is superb. Horowitz phrasing is beautiful and his fingers make the piano sing. If I had the time I could listen to this all day and never tire. A must for my desert island!
0:17 "Keep my money there" 0:40 "Little bit better" 1:19 "Very good" 1:29 "Tempo is good, Siciliana you know" 1:41 "I like this, and this we never hear that" 2:05 "That is good, very good" 2:14 "Very good Maestro" 2:29 "Its good" (soft) 2:48 "Better" 2:55 "Very good" 3:10 "Perfect, congratulations" 3:15 "We can go home now, very good" 3:44 "What you want, I don't know" 4:08 "I hope they change my mind, you don't mind that girl, you like my playing more than my tie"
The thing is, both Guilini and Horowitz do not impose on eachother their experise or "greatness", Horowitz continues to compliment Guilini throughout the recording, and Guilini's mild calm demeanour sitting quietly commenting only when asked, and especially titling Horowitz "Maestro" seemed the highest respect and appreciation of each other.
I would say that it sometimes, though not always, depends on what you are used to. For example, if someone grew up on the Horowitz version, they would enjoy it more than, perhaps, the version/s that you listened to when growing up. It's a very human response. I think that this is a "range" of appropriate emotions depending on the emotion one wants to convey. Of course, I don't know this particular concerto very well, and may, and probably, am entirely wrong.
@PhilipLu3 Yes, this recording wouldn't be so successful without such a matching orchestra. This version is faster than most of others but it just feels so right.

Horowitz is a great pianist. But the adagio becomes more sensitive when it is played slower, like Alan Goldstein does. Pitty that the youtube version of his performance is not well recorded.
Gulini shows more respect than Horrowitz ;-) If this damn Russian musician would have shown more respect to the composeres he interpretated almost genious I would have liked him as a human beeing....Maybe he was not able to do so.
But it was great and not mereley the work of this selfish genious prole.
"His playing sounds like light bursting out of a prism. The melody seems so alive and crystal clear. " I don't know why, but this is an above-average performance by him!
yes the other parts are the playing of the 3 movements look in my video. Sadly there is no part of them listening and commenting the 2 other movements. there is an intro before they begin playin ill upload it later today
One of the greates man of our times! Im proud cuz i was alive at the same time maestro Horowitz was. I was three months old when He died...

very interesting to see Horowitz critique his own performance, but let's thank Mozart for writing such sublime music.

Horowitz seems like such a sweet old man. And being as aged as he is in this video, makes me feel like there's a ton of mysterious history behind him.
He's like someone I would think I'd wanna watch a movie about.

LOL.. i really loved Horowitz's personality,
he is paraphrasing the great pianist Chopin,
"I hope do you like my playing more than my tie"
