  • I love you Doc Keith

  • yooo granny a bad pun de organ star!!!

  • She passed away the same dad my father did...may the both rest in peace and her music will live on forever...

  • My goodness. I'm loving it. I am so sorry to hear that she is no longer with us. I hear a little Billy Preston in there!! But I definitely hear her personality coming out on those keys!!! This is some real good Hammond playing right here.

  • AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i appreciate her classic style!

  • I had a chance to be in church in the mid 70's in York PA. and she played wow !! she was the twinkie Clark of her Day ,

  • Guess we know who will be playing this number in heaven from now on. God must be very happy to have her in the choir now.

R.I.P. Becky. I never heard you in earthly days. I look forward to hearing you in my heavenly days! 3)

  • Amen Doctor go ahead, beautiful

  • Actually we are at 5923-41 Walnut Street, not 61st & Walnut.

  • WHAAAAAT???? This is Dewitt Johnson, an organist. She and her family were, and and still is, close friends with mine. She attended my mother's funeral in North Carolina back in 2002. She taught me sooo much on the organ from just being near her the very brief time I played for the youth choir while I lived in Philly. Please, whoever sees this, extend to the family my deepest sympathies. She was not just a legend. She was THE Legend. Her influence lives on in my playing...

  • @dewittjohnson80 Hi Dewitt: It's me Monique, I will give Wendy your regards.

  • There aren't too many female organ legends left. We'll miss you Aunt Beck.

  • @UNEEKMONIQ Are you Monique Percell? Do you know her? She is the greatest singer to ever live. You name reminded me of her. Sorry.

  • @dewittjohnson80 It's me Monique Purcell. You are so kind. I have a couple of songs on youtube. Be Blessed

  • @UNEEKMONIQ Hey Monique! Rev. Bunton and I were talking about you yesterday. Are you on Facebook?

  • @ministermaria1 yes, I'm on facebook. Sherri M Purcell

  • @UNEEKMONIQ WOW!! I can't believe it... This is soooo amazing. THE Monique Purcell. I thank you for sending my regards to Wendy. I searched your singing on Youtube, but I wasn't signed in to provide a response. I hate that I could not make myself available to come to the funeral because I'm in school in North Dakota. By the way, you are a legend yourself and on behalf of the Johnson Klan, we love you and your whole family and wish God's blessings all over. Please forgive the delay in response.

  • I'm so sorry to hear of Dr. Carlton's passing! My mom was a member of Sanctuary before her passing and sang with the music ministry there. She was such a sweet woman!

  • Dr. Carlton will be greatly missed. Along with Bishop Brunson, of course, she WAS the Sanctuary! R.I.P.

  • Sorrowfully, I must anounce that Dr. Becky Carlton went home to be with the Lord today October 19, 2010. Pray for her family.

  • @allencofield

I'm sorry to hear this news!!!!!! I had the opportunity to sit under Dr. Carlton and she was trully a mentor & a mother! She imparted so much into me, I will never forget that.. Prayers go out to her family & the Sanctuary church family...

    Zak Williams

  • @allencofield My family was very close to her and even Pastor Bronson we were among the first members of Sanctuary way back on Larnchwood... up till we moved out the city in 98. Do you know how God called her home?

  • shanda lol i go 2 sanctuary nd she also has been a mentor to me i play the drums nd just started out on the organ nd she gave me alot of pointers

  • She reminds me of Baltimore's own Dr. Gloria Thompson

  • she played that organ

  • I am a member at sanctuary church of the open door. i started playing piano and organ about three years ago and she was my mentor. she taught me so much and was the first one to really give me a chance and start me off playing at church. she's been pretty for a little while and today at church she came and the organist played this song in tribute to her on the same organ in this video. earl, you're a great organist and another one of my mentors but you had nothing on this performance.

  • This is what you call anointed! How Great Thou Art is exemplified in Dr. Carlton's style. I've never been to Phili, but I grew up in New York City....I know good organ playing, and this woman of God is phenomenal! Praise Be to God for her. May she continue to win souls to the Lord through her anointed gift of music. Bless you all!

  • i bout cried lol AWESOME JOB MOMMA !

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • YES LAWD..... I GOT TO COME TO THAT CHURCH TO THAT CHURCH I LIVE NOT TOO FAR FROM THEM

  • Being totally honest what a way to KILL one of the hallmark hymns of the Christian church. For your info glissandos do NOT work well on a electronic organ or ANY organ for that matter. There is such a thing as OVERKILL and this performance exemplifys it.

  • @gramps2matt If you understood how gospel organ, or hammond organ playing, worked, this would not seem like over kill. Every culture does things differently. Just because the hymn isn't played the way you're used to hearing it doesn't mean that it has been "killed". The hammond organ in this setting, and jazz settings, is played a lot different than a rogers organ for example. Glissandos, tri tones, augmented, diminished chords are part of the style.Traditional would "kill" songs on this organ

  • @gramps2matt Shut your damn mouth and enjoy talent! you are the exact example of someone who was taught a talent you focus so much on the specifics you need to learn to feel the music only then will you become a musician! Dr.Carlton clearly exemplifys! (^_^)

  • this just made me smile!! so anointed!

  • i keep tryin 2 pick myself up off the floor but i can't...MOTHER IS PLAYIN ME "DEAD"!!

OMG!! I HAVE GOT TO MEET HER!!
