I love Shyamalan's films because they're never predictable, the plotline is well thought-out and solid, and the characters grab your attention and pluck at your heartstrings. Most movies released today are boring, unoriginal, or have a painfully simple plot. Watching M. Night movies is like a breath of fresh air; they're pleasantly different from what we're used to. I believe Shyamalan is one of the greatest storytellers out there.
I watched this when I was really little and my mom cut if off because it was boring and a little scary, she thought. I was mad and crawled into the underspace beneath my bunk-desk bed where I hug up pictures of what I wanted to be and wrote letters to people that I didn't know. I started to wonder, why do people hate strange things. I guess that's why they hate me.
@Ziffaroo YES! So i'm not crazy. I thought the EXACT same thing and tried to find it on youtube to compare, i just could never find it. okay, i can sleep soundly now.
This and the scene with the Great Eatlon are my most favorite scenes in the film. Shyamalan is one of the GREATEST filmmakers/storytellers of all time!
James Newton Howard is the best. Signs and LITW have some of the most gorgeous soundtracks I've ever heard. I also like that no songs, just scores, are used. it's unique.
One night I was with my family in downtown and I had some part of this in my head (the part starting a 2:17) and kept repeating over and over and i was killing myself trying to figure out when I'd heard it and one day it hit me. it's sooo good.
One of my all time favorite films. The Sixth Sense wasn't a movie in comparision. The message of Lady In The Water is so strong and clear. Such a powerful film should be shown much more often.
I actually loved TLA. I love all of M. Night Shyamalan's work, and this is one of my favorite films from him. It is so different from the movies we usually see on the screen today. It just seems like people have lost touch with their magical, innocent side.
But to me, this is one of the most beautiful stories told. I will always love his work because he gives us something new each time.
Plus actually I think maybe also the problem with Shyamalan is he doesn't WANT something to be not 'epic'....which makes his stuff so forced. He wants it to be so epic he makes up silhouettes of 'epic stories' but totally misses the point why those old stories were epic in the first place. The biggest proof was his last adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Shyamalan just thought 'EPIC' but didn't understand why.
it really upsets me when everybody says this movie is one of the reason's M. Night Shyamalan's career is down the hole. This movie is brilliant and so is the rest of Shyamalan's work, i don't care what people think. I guess the only movies people are happy with these days are about superheroes, giant robots, and the apocalypse.
@KrystalKobra I know. Everyone should have exactly the same opinions as you, because if they don't, they're clearly retarded and have no taste in film. I AM ROLLING MY EYES AT YOU!
@KrystalKobra I love movies that aren't about giant robots and the apocalypse, I just don't like Shyamalans movies (actually I don't like the Sixth sense either) because they just don't move me personally, there's something about the script, the acting around him...I think the main thing I miss with him is the sense of detail he lacks....well, that's my opinion.
(And you can't defend the last Airbender though! I think)
@KrystalKobra exactly. i personally don't think night ever gave a crap about his "career". he's only ever cared about making incredible, original, artistic films.
Honestly most people I know who don't like his movies, I show them this one, and they will say things like. " This is his only good one." I've never met someone who didn't like this one. =)
@Liantjuh555 It sounded like it was from this same movie just a different piece of music. I believe it was part of The Healing? Thats what it sounded like to me.
While it is a really great soul stiring peice of music, i don't know if i would walk down the isle to it. It's a bit too spooky for my tastes, but hey i wish you all the best.
@nebulalovestars the first time i watched this movie was during a thunderstorm, i had goosebumps and prickly hairs standing on their ends for the entire duration.

Great piece of music.. James Newton Howard is a master. For some reason this piece reminds me of the orchestral side of Nightwish.. this tune would fit a Nightwish album perfectly ;)
@iluvrock92 That's not true at all, some people enter into the feeling a movie seeks to project and lose themselves in it. Only people who keep themselves conscious of the fact that a motion picture is a fictional production see things that way. That would be like reading a book and thinking to yourself with every line 'Wow, I bet Charles Dickens was in a leather-bound armchair when he wrote this', it completely distances you from the point and purpose of art.
This is unbelievably beautiful
