@josejloayza No se habla tanto de regalar como de ocultar el código en una 'caja negra' que solamente pueda abrir un 'técnico especializado' que te cobre un ojo de la cara para hacerlo. Abriendo el código (que no implica regalarlo) se consigue que el usuario que sepa arreglar fallos pueda realmente ir a cambiar el trozo de código que quiera para modificar el Sistema a su gusto.

Además, existen fundaciones que, a partir de donaciones, ayudan a los programadores del freeware a ganar un dinerillo.

@qertasdfgzxcvb Creo que hablas de los códigos fuentes. Cuando yo programaba, descubrí como se representa secuencias matemáticas muy complejas como Integrales y derivadas, me tardé tanto que no quería que otros pasen por eso. Así que publicaba mis códigos fuentes para que otros avancen más allá. Todo lo que hice ayudó a otros, pero no he recibido ni espero recibir un solo centavo por mi colaboración al desarrollo y aún vivo en la miseria, siendo muy inteligente y estudiado. ¿Eso es bueno?

@josejloayza Depende de tu vocación. Regalar el código se hace porque realmente se cree en los ideales del código libre.

Por ejemplo (aunque seguramente no se pueda comparar), durante el Bachillerato, descubrí que la calculadora que nos dejaban usar era programable. al cabo de poco vi que eso de programar no se me daba mal, y empezé a meter programas para evitar hacer los cálculos más pesados (ej: reducción por Gauss-Jordan), y cuando me dijeron cuanto pedía por los programas, decidí regalarlos.

@qertasdfgzxcvb Ahora estoy en primero de carrera, y aunque estoy de acuerdo contigo en que de una forma u otra un buen programador debe ganarse la vida, también creo que compartir el código para ayudar a otros a avanzar más puede beneficiarte en que otros descubran fallos que tú no habías visto o puedan ampliar tú programa para hacerlo más eficiente. Sin el código libre, ahora mismo estaríamos 'obligados' a usar Windows, Apple o Solaris (creo que no hay más), mientras que hay muchos SO libres.

Conozco muchos científicos ecuatorianos que viven en la miseria y han aportado más que ninguno. Las personas para pedir son muy buenas, hablan muy bonito, pero para dar, te dan la espalda y se alejan. Que pena.
