You guys obviously do not know your fish. That is indeed a Rainbow Trout. If it was a steelhead we would not be making a big deal about the fact that it is 21 inches.... It is in an inland spring feed stream.
It' actually better to just face the fish up stream and just let the water run past it's gills and not to push it back and forth as that bends the gill fillamrnts forweards- the direction that they are notsupposed to point and can actually be bad for the fish after you release it.
Just to clarify. This video was shot on a small trout stream in Wisconsin. It is spring feed and all natural. The waters have been managed for trout but not stocked. It is catch and release. Heck. You can fish this stream. Go to Seven Pines Lodge dot Com
Why hello there mayfly! Great commentary on your video! That was awesome. I miss that hog trough. (SP?) Do you recall last years opener? My father and I came up for a wk end. We gotta go smallies on the croix! Peace
Gees...I wish I was the fisherman. I filmed it. The guy who caught the fish is a buddy and he is the resort guide..he fishes it daily and doesn't run into something like this!! I lost a lot of quality. I was new at this and I have learned a lot since I started. Quality is key! And this isn't but it is fun to watch..wish I could tell the whole story but it would just be too long!! What a day!
Thank you for your reply. It makes a difference after you explained it more. It is nice to hear the excitement of the fisherman.Did you loose much quality when you downloaded the video?
Im sure the video was better than what is being shown. How much did they charge to fish there private land?(All good fishing is not on private land)I will bet my Sage that fish is stocked!
Well the way I understand it is that the fishing has been like this forever. There is some serious history there and they have the pics to prove it. Pics dating back to 1903. I didn'y pay anything to fish it. It is a managed stream as in they have created undercuts for the fish and it is strictly catch and release. And as far as your comment about all good fishing isn't on private land...I never eluded to that. this stream just happened to be pretty locked up.

Just a nother note - The steel head and Rainbow are basically the same fish. There are minor differences, size being one of them.

Wow... Not a hatchery fish is it? The ones out here rarely look so... healthy and lively. They do fight though! I'll give them that!
