How to Type on the iPhone 3G

you're wrong a million times over that 'the iPhone typing interface is way smarter than you are', the predictive text is shambles and the 'sensitivity' (or the profound lack of) of the keys is very poor indeed. This is a technology released way sooner than it was 'ready' for the public and consumers convenience and ease of use was very low on Apple's agenda. iPhone is about selling you apps, that's where their money comes from, making it easy to use as a phone was the last thing on their mind.

you can add words to the dictionary. Type the word and don't press space bar. then, touch the word while the guess of the word is still above it to choose it instead and do that a couple of times and its added.

Don't like the inbuilt dictionnary, prefer going at it alone. I also type in French and English on my iphone so it ruins the dictionnary function. With time, even when typing fast, you won't make many mistakes.

one major improvement apple could make would be to have the keyboard in portrait mode (turned on it's side) so the keys would be more spaced out and easier to use. Or can you already do this?

It can be done, but strangely only while browsing with Safari, otherwise the keyboard stays in portrait mode

Skip the backspace if it guesses wrong, that is a waste of time. Instead, when the iphone shows the "correction" above while you are typing, click the small "x" next to it, then it will just allow you to type whatever it was that you were intending.

You don't have to press the X :7, just the word what comes.

ye your right. when i got my iphone i always had to backspace it. then i thought it was gay and i knew that there is another way. so i clecked on the letter that is corrected and it turns to the original word that i wanted.
