It's amazing how far his legend has risen after he made his transition to Muta. He would have had a great career without the gimmick, even though it gave him instant recognition.
Be honest, we've all done the posion mist with kool-aid at last once.
Anyone have any ideas as to where or how he conceals his mist to use several times in a match, were doing a Halloween "gimmick infringement" show this month and I decided to pay tribute to Muta, Im working on the mist itself but need to figure out how I can sneak in at least one for the finish since Im using one for the entrance
the GREAT MUTA ,,prise muta bloosom ::MUTA FOREVER the BEST after NO BODY!!! WHAT!! WhaT?? I SAID THE BEST ever ,,what????? after the lost when i was bitchin and clening my face from mist i decided to quit ,,MUTA FOREVER!!!
Awesome tribute. Muta was great. Especiallyin the feuds with Sting and Flair. Muta was one of the best foriegn wreslters of all-time. He would give you his best every night. That's Mutoh...
I saw The Great Muta live about 20 years ago. I was so excited to see him but was disappointed because he didn't do any of his awesome flying moves and Lex Lugar (I think-it was a 6 man tag match) kicked him in the balls like 3 times.
the Great Muta is quite awesome, however I find he is very reminiscent of another Japanese superstar from the 70's, The Great Kabuki. he was the guy who concieved the 'Green Mist".
Muta is a walking Masterpiece of art on that canvas in the ring or outside of the ring. Carries himself a like a true professional who is serious about what he does, and you can tell because of the intensity and emotion he brings in every match. He will always be The Great Muta no matter what. I'm saying this because every since the day I discovered Muta, he's given me nothing but great wrestling, everytime. Not something I can say about everyone in the business. He makes me proud to be a fan!
I can totally agree with your statement. I discovered Muta and Chono when I was living on Guam and use to watch all the Japanese wrestling on this Japanese Channel , which was channel 12. Everything on Guam came a week late. TV programming wise. I remember watching Big Van Vader, Masachiro Chono and The Great Muta. Chono has a way better STF!
100% agreed. I saw how he was treated in WCW when I was younger and even then couldn't see how they wasted so much talent and hard work. Having seen recently his work in Japan, I know this man gives his all.
One thing a lot of people do not notice is how he makes sure to provide fan photo-ops both in the ring and when he takes his time going to and from the dressing room.
I cannot fairly say he is or isn't the best, but I, personally, very much enjoy his work.
His name says it all. Definitely one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Is that move he does at 0:37 the Space Rolling Elbow? Looks cool the way he does it.
mysterio is a great high flyer he was awesome at the ecw... but he never was on the level that muta is or was.. muta is just the best wrestler that has ever set a foot on this planet!!! hes like the zidane of wrestling!!
Yeah it's not the STF. I know what that is. In this one he was back to back with the guy on his face and he did an arch and reached back and pulled the guys chin up. Like and STF but doing and arch. The STF was a cool move too but i think this had a different name.
It's a hold that he innovated witch is actually called "Muta Lock". He also innovated "Flashing Elbow" and also later on in his career "Shinning Wizard" and the "Dragon Screw neckwhip".
Man, what was that move where he layed the guy out face down, tied up his legs with his one, and then arched back and pulled his chin up towards the roof? That was awesome. I don't see it on any of the videos. I thought that THAT was the indian death lock.
rikidozan v muta v kobashi v misawa v inoki v liger v tigermask1v wild peguses v black tiger eliminaton match i would pay a fuck of a lot of money to see that match
I know the "mist" was a gimmick given to Asian wrestlers, but how were they able to take bumps and still spit out the mist?? I could have sworn that Muta sprayed out 2 different color mists during a match. Did those guys put some sort of liquid capsules in their mouth during matches?
I assume the same gimmick used to produce mist is used to provide "blood" for wrestlers who are now getting "choked out" by the Undertaker.
dennisbergkamp17 you are absolutly right, Muta was not only one of the greatest oriental wrestlers of all time but one of the best NWA/WCW wrestlers of all time. He's a very strange character, but his fluid and strange style of wrestling, was one of the best styles in the annals of pro wrestling. Him vs. Ric Flair for the NWA World's Heavyweight Championship, was one of my favorite matches of all time.
He always had the best ring entrance in NJPW and in NWA. He was well known for his moonsault but he was not the first to do it.However, The Rock did take his Peoples Elbow from the Flashing Elbow witch Muta invented. And Triple H sprays mist out off his mouth like Muta but out of a water bottle, instead of that unknown red or green substance.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Muta gimmick is just a rip off of the old Great Kabuki character that wrestled in Mid Atlantic and WCCW during the 80s. His Moonsault sucked...he wasn't the first person to use the move (That'd be Satoru Sayama or Lanny Poffo-depending on if your into revisionist history) and he's just a flat out lazy worker. Other than the Hase bloodbath and his super overrated Lyger match, most "fans" couldn't even list 10 really good Muta matches.
I am Muta fan, but I gotta say you have some pretty valid points. I have always thought of Muta as the Japanese Ric Flair in that every match was the exact same as the last, no matter who the opponent was. I am more a fan of his faces and reactions than I am his matches though.
First off Muta is the "Son" of the Great Kabuki so he didn't rip off anything that wasn't handed to him. Secondly Muta is credited with creating the Moonsault like it or not. But you have the nerve to say Leaping Lanny Poffo did the moonsault first? Nobody cares about Randy Savage's little brother ya moron! But a true Muta fans knows the difference between sports entertainment and "old school" Wrassling! And Muta's "Old School"!
lol only the uninformed 'credit' Muta with inventing the Moonsault but, the truth is, he clearly didn't. He's not even the first person to do one in the US. Look it up yourself to find that you're wrong. Sayama invented and regularly used the original version in '82 and the refined version (what most consider to be a Moonsault today) in 83. Oh and Kabuki was using the same gimmick before Keiji Mutoh even entered the NJPW dojo and became a pro wrestler....so yeah, he did rip him off. Big time.
actually he didnt rip him off,the character has always been portrayed as the son of great kabuki(it says it in evey background story and bioof Great Muta) and ya he did NOT invent the moonsault but he did popularize it in NJPW
Kabuki was doing the whole face paint, eloborate entrance attire, green mist schtick BEFORE Muta....so was Kendo Nagasaki actually (the one in the US not UK). Are you going to say that Muta's "character" is affliated with his as well? lol
no no no what im tring to say is that yes he stole it but the gimmick behind it is that he was his son he was not in real life he was interested in that form of presentation in the ring asked if he could be kabuki jr. they said no so then he asked if he could create his own character but use all of kabuki's styles and the mist and claim to be his son the said sure go for it. so gimmick wise yes there "characters" are related but not in any other sense
It's true that he uses a gimmick similar to the Great Kabuki, but in fairness, it was part of a storyline and Kabuki essentially passed the torch off to Muta anyway. I don't find him a lazy worker.. what defines being a lazy worker anyway? Not hopping around and jumping in and out of the ring like Mysterio? His style is slow and methodical on purpose, but with psychology that is second to none.
you're a fucking retard ebutuoy. people like do not deserve to be on the internet. in fact, people like you should be locked up in an asylum for being so goddamned stupid.
aint that a bitch? when u look at videos with the rock in it the quality is good. Can't u tell by the way the video's quality isn't that clear that it was probably b4 the rocks time? so that means the rock got his peoples elbow from Muta. ever think about that?
I'd actually like to see the current Muta with his mask and eerie entrance music against 96 Taker but Muta from any era would work I guess. Their styles in the ring would clash but both wrestlers are masters at psychology and would make for a good feud.
Well it would be a clash of styles because Muta, Kobashi and Misawa are all heavyweights. Evans, Strong and AD are all junior heavyweights. In Japan, they usually separate the Juniors from the Heavys.
they do that for a reason. kobashi and misawa have a very slow style that is made up of stiff hits and hard slams. mutoh is different. but yeah. strong and ad's styles could mesh with the aforementioned styles... 10 years ago! if that match happened now, strong might actually break someone's back. but lets say that doesnt happen. evans would fuck up the match regardless with his backyarder style. exchange evans for davey richards and now youre talking
this match might work if you changed kobashi to like the dynamite kid and make misawa in tiger mask days.. and of course replace jackevans with someone else
the great muta has wrestled jushin thunder liger so manny times man i wish i was from japan because everything they do there !z super Vishez da only great high flyers i know !z teddy hart & his brother jack evans
he was one of the VERY FEW foreign wrestler who didn't get screwed in america and thats bc he was that talented and charismatic. top 5 of all-time, probably #2 behind flair
for a moment he held both America and Japan's top championships...the IWGP heavyweight title and the NWA heavyweight title...at the same time...sweet!! muta's the man!!
Muta's time with the WCW (when it became serious threat to WWE) was the worst stuff ever, it nearly killed of Muta's presence and ability. Luckily WCW went under and Vince McMahon took control. Muta is the best in the world today.

Muta's time with the WCW (when it became serious threat to WWE) was the worst stuff ever, it nearly killed of Muta's presence and ability. Luckily WCW went under and Vince McMahon took control. Muta is the best in the world today.
