Canada always had an obligation to help the United States in the Iraq War... As a part of NATO, sooner or later you would be forced into action to help deal with Iraq! Don't like it, get your government to withdraw from NATO (FAT CHANCE)

Since then we have found that Bush lied and Iraq is still an illegal war. That was over 8 years ago and Canada is still not there! So no you won't be seeing Canada in Iraq!

LET'S SAY that the entire world really did stand up Bush Jr and prevented him from going to war... it would work... for a while... until someone radical religious zealot blows up a subway train somewhere (UK) or heaven forbid somewhere that hasn't been attacked yet (Canada). The attack would have been blamed on Iraq, our NATO alliance would have been triggered, and we would have all attacked. Entangling alliances like NATO TAKE AWAY a nation's sovereignty!!

i've just been reading a lot and it seems like alliances like NATO are what cause the west to go lockstep with any war any of us end up starting!! (Iraq, Libya, etc!!)

@asphyxiafeeling France and UK pressured the U.S to enter Libya. France and many other nato nations were not in Iraq........ your post makes no seance. The NATO Alliance is a treaty (an attack on a member state is an attack on all states) it means every NATO member who has a underfunded under equipped military will still be under the U.S shield. So of course the U.S has some influence. If NATO did not exist Canada's defense spending would be at lest 4 times more then it is now.

I concede I had my facts wrong about Iraq. I knew over 30 countries were a part of the multi-national force that helped the US invade, but I hadn't looked at the list to confirm if France was one of them. Thanks for the correction!

@asphyxiafeeling - We had no obligation under NATO. The U.S Congress never “declared” war on Iraq. This "war" was nothing more than an illegal occupation which we all know today was the product of greed and lies. If the Canadian government had any obligation, it was to Canada’s Constitution, Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms and a little thing known as international law.

Though was no formal declaration war, military force WAS authorized by Congress. It's called the Iraq Resolution, which was signed in 2003! I'm not defending the war, or saying it was just, or saying it was a good idea. So relax! (:P)

Since WW2, USA + Canada have a tradition of helping each other when it comes to foreign relations. One of the tenets of your country's military strategy is "The defence of North America in cooperation with US forces" !!
