Personally, I would love for all of Spain to be united, enough with the arguments and fighting. The Spanish Civil War set nerves on fire but what's done is done. I live in California but my spanish roots come from my father's side in Texas and these matters in the fatherland of Espana concern me. Im sure there are some catalans that are proud to be Spanish and serve her without hesitation. All of Spain should rise as one. the land needs to be protected by all within her.

@conservativeyogy I guess you don't know this but under Spanish law it is illegal for a region or province to separate or declare independence from Spain. The Catalans have held referendums on the matter and the Spanish PM Zapatero says it is all useless because there not allowed under the law to make a decision like that.

If it is the will of the people to separate, by law the Spanish army must occupy the separatist nation, region or province. The kings of Spain brought many people from the north of Spain to the south(including Catalonians) and a lot of Germans too. They share the same dna, culture, religion, traditions, very similar languages,same writing, the flag has the same colors as the Spanish flag. 1/3 of the people of Catalonians don't want independence.

IDK about Catalonia being independent, but I really wish they would keep it out of football. It just ruined the game the way Barca incorporated politics into football. Every trophy they win has to be a political statement, sad, the beautiful game is dying, football was supposed to be for fun, not for making political statements. Same goes for Real Madrid. If they have to do that within Spanish league football then so be it. Personally, I would love for all of Spain to be united, enough with the arguments and fighting. The Spanish Civil War set nerves on fire but what's done is done. I live in California but my spanish roots come from my father's side in Texas and these matters in the fatherland of Espana concern me. Im sure there are some catalans that are proud to be Spanish and serve her without hesitation. All of Spain should rise as one. the land needs to be protected by all within her.

@conservativeyogy I guess you don't know this but under Spanish law it is illegal for a region or province to separate or declare independence from Spain. The Catalans have held referendums on the matter and the Spanish PM Zapatero says it is all useless because there not allowed under the law to make a decision like that.

It's not Mr. Zapatero who 'stops' Catalonia from becoming an independent country, so to speak, but the Spanish Constitution itself which, in its second article, claims as follows: 'This Constitution is based on the indissoluble unity of the Spanish Nation, the common and indivisible homeland of all Spaniards'. From which is easily deduced the Constitution needs changing if you want to become independent.

Art. 2: Spain will be allways united.
Art. 8: The unity of Spain will be secured by the armed forces.
A constitution that was voted when people was afraid about the continuity of the dictatorship. Obviusly, ultra-right-wing spanish parties take advantage of that. And today the law doesn't leave us (Catalonian, Basq,...) to decide by ourshelves, is illegal to ask us!!

Basically, the only way under Spanish law to end the occupation of your country is to defeat the Spanish army in war. That is not democracy.
