  • A tube of Frui tGums costs 50 pence today, that is 10 shillings in real money. I remember, at the time of these adverts, they cost threepence.

  • "Don't forget my fruit gums mum. Don't forget my fruit gums mum."

    Well that was creepy.

  • The advert was later banned because it encouraged pester power.

  • Any idea who the child actor is?

  • And he had no teeth by the time he was 20 LOL!

  • well thats gay :)

  • *sigh* I have to study this advert for media -.-

  • I always thought it was a young Dennis Waterman from The Sweeney and Minder. Looks like him and about the right era for his age!

  • @critch1901 Ironically it was Denis Gilmore a ginger headed kid who also played the part of William Brown in Just William on BBC. The William Brown before him was...Dennis Waterman!!!

  • Interestingly, this advert is directed by Lindsay Anderson, who went on to make such masterpieces as if.... and O Lucky Man! I edited his diaries for publication. He also directed the ones starring John Moulder-Brown. I'd love to see those if anyone has them?

  • Thanks you for that ... and people think this is just for fun - it's an education!

  • Thanks for putting this on youtube, I'm using this for my media coursework right now

  • They were very worried about pester power,so they changed it from 'don't forget the fruit gums mum' to 'don't forget the fruit gums chum'.

  • found out about this 'truely terrifying' advert through 'charlie brookers screenwipe' , humorously pointing out that this ad would by todays advertising standards be illegal, by it's encouragement of pester power.

'don't forget my fruitgums mum' - "yeah, pick them up on your way back from the therapist"!

  • 2d on sweets would get you a bag full if you played it safe. Black Jacks were four for a 1/2 and what were those sherberty things? Flying Saucers?

  • @coolitababy flying saucers, mm mmmm. My son is 32 and he loves them more than I did, every Christmas I get him a big tub of them from Poundstretcher! Can you remember spearmint mojos? Sherbert fountains, penny arrow bars???

  • Classic Advert - The young boy is Dennis Gilmore from Hayes Middlesex who went on to feature in many films and Wurzel Gummidge!

  • I have trying to find the name of the voice over artist used in this clip.....can anyone help? She was rather famous in her day....

  • Strangely enough I had just asked this of Rowntrees and got the reply that they don't have any details as such.

  • @gurlcrazy1 denise bryer married to nicholas parsons. There you go

  • We need to know the name of the voice over artist VERY badly!!

Please post if you have any idea who it is....

  • my grandad keeps gibbering on about this.....i had to wach it.....im deeply dissapointed

  • thank you thank you thank you> I have been trying so hard to find this gem from my childhood and kept finding American ads, thanks again!!!
