Joe Quesada has been going out of his way to burn the fans who liked the marriage. He's been throwing the fans a great big middle finger by bringing Mary Jane back and teasing us with their reunion. They don't get back together. Now Peter has a new love interest named Carlie Cooper that REEKS of Mary Sue. Everyone keeps ranting about how perfect she is for Peter, about how he doesn't deserve her. And about how he couldn't understand her pain.

Apparently Peter Parker doesn't know emotional pain.

I liked your review of this awful storyline. I have to digress on one point, if you are creative a Superhero deoesnt need a Secret Identity, The Fantastic Four have been around since 1961, and they were always public. With good writing you can get out of the corner of the secret identty. One idea would be for spidey to live at a safehous provided by Iron Fist.. Finally I agree with you, death is inevitable, so we have to deal with it, an acceptable ending woul have been Aunt May s death

I just read Captain America Reborn #6 and in it was an add for Amazing Spiderman. It had a picture of Mary Jane and Peter trying to reach eachother with different pics as the background. One was with Spiderman and Juggernaut. Are they getting back together after this gauntlet thing?

Everything leading up to that seemed like one big lie after another. First we promise big changes and then another change and an unmasking and then Aunt May is sick and she's going to die. Then 'I quit' again.

THey actually killed Aunt May in AMazing 400. How can you promise so many things to readers and lie about it?

What was really awful was the fact of wiping out 40 years of continuity. So many large grand events happened in 40 years of Spider Man, and it was all wiped out. That outdoes the crap decision of the 90s Marvel vs DC of let's make it a popularity contest rather than have logical results.

I just want this to be retconned so badly. Not that Brand New Day hasn't been good, but you just don't forget filth like One More Day. And for me, the marriage to Mary Jane was an almost essential part of the modern day Spidey mythos. She's finally coming back in a couple issues, so hopefully this is step one in the long road of retconning the retcon.

It was heart-wrenching, I could tell you were out of sorts when you couldn't remember the names of the supporting cast. However, just one minor quibble: Spider-Man has worn the black suit a lot more than the symbiote, you shouldn't expect the symbiote because he goes back to the black suit again. Otherwise, I feel your pain about One More Day.

Huh. it's weird. The reason Joe ended the marriage was because he thought kids wouldn't like a married hero. What's weird is that...I liked Spiderman since I was...5, and I never really had a problem with MJ. Good job, Joe. You really dropped the ball there.

When you change one event, it changes a lot of other events. So my issues are not pointless. MJ is a pivoting character in Peter's life, and a lot of conflicts center around her because of that. Everything changed, and you see that the moment Mephisto's offer is accepted and enacted. Osborn still alive, and is his buddy, etc. I haven't bothered to read any of the issues since. I've seen them at the comic store, and it is still going on, and I despise it.

Mephisto says that Peter's life remains except that he never married MJ. OMD does not erase all continuity. Your issues are not pointless. And even if OMD did completely change and erase continuity, it is not "pointless" to collect. I think it's kind of silly to think that all issues of ASM are pointless just because of a bad arc. The character has had a great history with great moments. OMD didn't erase those stories, because they're sitting on your shelf, waiting to be reread.

I quit reading spider-man back in 94-95 when the clone saga started. I also didn't like being forced to buy holographic covers for triple the regular price. That being said I started reading again a few years ago, hopeing that the issues would be better. I just can't believe that they are doing this again. This mess really started with him giving up his identity. It went down hill from there. I just read up to issue 551, and I am not happy....so I will spend my money on other things.

He's expressing his point of view nonetheless (to which he's entitled - after all he spends his cash to buy them comics) which one can find not very knowledgeable due to his short span of time being a Spider Man reader.

Personally I have been collecting and reading Spider-Man since 1987, and this change of things with the new storyline doesn't find me very argumentative or negative about...

The sad thing is she's died once already in Amazing Spider-man 400, but that was rewritten when the first Green Goblin came back post-Clone Saga and we finally had the reveal of his secret to her afterwards. Such a great arc and it would have been nice for them to just let Aunt May go but editioral mandate from Quesada. I personally stopped reading before "Back in Black." I'm entirely beyond pissed as a long time fan.

"Hopefully it turns out", do you intend to keep buying Amazing Spider-Man? It's been known that Joe Q's whole agenda was to get rid of the marriage. As a long term fan I'm highly insulted that every Spidey comic I've bought since I was 15 now means nothing. I'm cancelling Amazing Spidey. The only way they'll realise this was a mistake is if sales figures show people aren't happy.
