I don't know if it was specific to my copy of the game, but I was able to find a major game changing glitch. I can't remember specifically what I did, but I remember something about if you send some fighters or something to attack the sphere of ion cannons and retreated, the whole sphere would move downward. Just had to wait for them to finish moving. Hence, leaving the hyperspace inhibitor open. You would just have to fight a handful of ion cannons or so.
Forget the Ion Frigates on Mission 14, HW1 Salvaging is all about those Multibeam Corvettes that the Kadeshi have. Snap up all of those babies, keep them alive, and you've got yourself a kill-fleet that is compact, fast, deadly, and looks freaking awesome.
@DragonUnderworld1 Ah, I had erroneously called them Corvettes. What I meant to say was Kadeshi Multibeam Frigates. Not corvettes. :)
But yeah, just to reiterate, if you capture every one of those from the Kadesh, you've got a ridiculously awesome fleet of death-dealers. No need for any of those Ion Frigates.
I cheated in a way hehe sent around 5 scouts in different directions and all the ion frigates followed.. then sent my fights to help aggro the rest of the enemys whilst my frigates etc went in.. even then it was still pretty hard
all i did was get a fast moving probe i think , get near to the frigate sphere get a couple then tell it to get to the mother ship they follow then just capture them and its funny they wont attack beacuse they are trying to catch up the the probe
@mitguard The only example I can remember happens on the last level where the Taiidan hyperspace in around 20-30 corvettes alongside their main fleet, I think there were a few more but its been too long since i've played
@TrueTactics as I remember - missions 1 (drones), 12 (I might be wrong but guyz are telling me that there were sup.frigate with fighters, going out of hyperspace to follow Elson), 13 (Dawg), 14 (what we see here), 16 (your example).
oh dude! I had the same idea! I remember the days I played this level and had a hard time killing them all. Then I decided to have fighters as lures and salvage ship to hijack. By the end, I had 3/4 of their fleet. interesting time.
I did the same thing. I had 72 Ion Frigates. The rest of the game was too easy after that. I had to go back and play it without them in order to make it interesting.
It was a long time ago that I did this. If memory serves is was way less than a minute. Very unsatisfying in terms of the dramatic. I barely had time to rotate the camera a few times to admire all of the ion beams before the ship would explode.
Im thinking of trying a game where I only fight with ships that I can build, including not exceeding the ship cap by salvaging; or rather generating RU's by retiring anything I capture. Perhaps it could be the start of a hard mode project :)
@LorysFan heh yup. My favorite. Using Proximity sensors tu lure the Ion after them. the got a whole pack of SCs and got the prize pretty easely. But really really slow.5 hours?
But like everything in a good RTS, it has its flaws, it lacks speed and is easy to outflank, Hyperspacing is costly, along with no reasonably effective weapons against fighters (though it can hold off small squads), and its expensive and slow to build.
also unless everyone is turtling, in multiplayer this never happens...
i think a good way to defend the cruisers with the missile destroyers is to set it to neutral and set it to guard. I can't remember though it has been awhile.

@Waoush nah its scripted, moving towards the center will cause half of the sphere to break and usually move downwards
TrueTactics 9 months ago
@TrueTactics yes! that is what that was lol

One thing that HW2 did do a good job on [improved from HW1]- the hyperspace gates are actually buildings... not energy rectangles O.o

Wow! a missile destroyer, a standard destroyer, and a heavy cruiser ganging up on 2 support frigates? harsh!!!

Bringin fighters through hyperspace gates, could you get any more illegal :D
DuellyO 2 years ago
They just hyperspace fighters in directly on Cataclysm :D, no standing gate or anything

@TrueTactics Can you point the mission where it happened?

Anyway I don't see any reason why it's illegal.

this mission is designed for one and only purpose:
Grand Theft Ship :D
Salvage Corvettes all the way, steal EVERYTHING you can
if you have the patience you can steal the whole shell, and each of the 3 hyperpace quads :)
(if you have LOTS of patience you can steal even the fighte rships, if you use gravity generator)

But salvaging makes the game too easy :D
So I destory everything instead, much more fun.
TrueTactics 3 years ago
well yeah :D
work hard early, have fun later on ;D
like i hijacked arround 50-70 ion frigates on that mission (cant recall the exact number)
when performing hyperspace, the alligned fleet was ridiculously wide
destroyed headshot asteroid iwthout any problems :D
and the last mission was a piece of cake
(however the maps didn't contain any resources at all from then, ... gues the hyperpace teleport used them all up to materialize my iron fleet ^^ )
anyway the salvagin is soooo much fun imho :D

How long does it take to destroy a mother ship with 72 ion frigates- plus whatever else you had?

I am only fighting with ships that I can build, the one exception coming from the ships I automatically gained from level 9.
TrueTactics 2 years ago
@TrueTactics I'm a noob at this game, so I will probably be salvaging ships.
