I have been to many of these competitions, (although in theatre, they don't like that word) and I know that they judge the acting first. You did a wonderful job acting the song. Your singing quality was hit and miss, however. It seemed like you tried to belt some of the parts and it sounded like you were just yelling them. The acting is what they look for, and I think that is how you got the superiors. Good for you, now just work on your voice. And want to hear back and see if you understand.
I think the only reason people are laughing in this video is because a funny lyric came up and it was an excuse to laugh at your singing. Geez us. My friend did this song for district one and got a superior. He was much better than this poop.
Acting and Singing were straight up bad...sorry I'm a young actor and i wanted to sing this but its hard....sorry i don't know whats wrong with these judges...
I'm part of District 14 Troupe 6172. I was actually thinking about performing this at Districts later this year... congrats and good luck at states!!!
"A" for effort? The performance itself was good...a little on the mediocre side, but it's ok. It's the tuning and straining that killed you, man. Great job, though! I'm a fan of this song
This song is pretty hard to sing. Its unrelentingly high and requires very good technical skills. I think its a bit too hard for you. You have a lot of potential, but I would have recommended a lower song while you develop technical skills.
Your voice is ok. The acting is the problem. I mean Andrew's character is already unbelievably over the top. It was too much. oh and the Belt notes are you weaknesses.
I agree with alijripc. The original singer, Mathew, used his diaphragm for support of his high notes. you are using your throat and stressing your vocals. Not only does that damage your singing in the long run, but it sounds very off putting and not in tune at all. This is constructive criticism, so don't take it as me trying to 'bash' your performance; it was alright, but the singing needs work for you and your audiences' sake.
@JokeEnhanced thanks for the comments, and I totally agree. This performance was back when I barely knew how to even vibrato my voice, but I recently landed a lead role in my school's next musical so I've been taking lessons and practicing ALOT. When I do this again at the state competition in March, I'm gonna work really hard on making it something that is not only funny but also beautiful to listen to and fine tune the performance as much as possible.
It wasn't bad I know you won some competition or something but you don't have to put your superior winning in the title it comes off arrogant and people will judge you on the superior singing level which this was not. Your did a pretty good job acting and were pretty funny which I am sure is the reason for the high remarks. But when it came to to hitting notes at the EFG level you were screaming and not hitting them and your tone wasnt amazing. But like I said it was a good performance.
@CanadienBac0n I received straight superior ratings from all 3 judges at the district competition, and my drama director chose this song as one of the 5 songs to be taken to the state competition out of the 12 my school could have taken. I'd rather trust the opinions of people who have been studying musical theatre for decades than a random internet troll such as yourself, so fuck off.
@CKAnimations Excuse me buddy, I am a 16 year old who has been preforming in musicals since I was 10, and have preformed in Toronto's run of Sound of Music, so I don't think i'm some "internet troll." Your judges and teachers were either retarded, there was nobody better than you in your whole state(which I highly doubt), or your lying about your rating. Im going for the the last one here, I think.
I really like when you're singing in your chest voice. I know that the voice you're doing is part of the character but a few of the high long notes weren't the best. But your performance is awesome! Good job!

The hilarity of the song does not make up for the mediocre singing.
