Un-fu**ing-believable! I would love to change the cabin filter, but now I think I will just breath all that dirty air! I have 80k on my Mazda, and to think of that dirty cabin filter?! Crap, I didn't even know there was a filter there! I have changed a clutch in my old 280Z, and it seems easier than this! And to think how much a dealer would charge for the man hours to replace that? That seems to be a BIG flaw in design...hmmmm. Job security maybe? Who knows, maybe just intelligent dumbness.
This is the big problem we have as a mechanic/ owner of a car is that we have a car designer who does not know anything about mechanical engineering. All they know is keyboards and space bars. They did not include in their design the ease of access in replacing these major parts that easily breaks down. I had a 2000 Corvette, I replaced the Hazard signal switch assembly. Nothing to it! However, it took 99% of my time preparing for the job that only took, literally, a second to install. GREAT!
This is why I don't work on cars any more. They design them as if no one will ever have to work on them. Sore back, knuckles, jammed fingers, etc. Trying to remember how to resemble it, working in cold, dark cramped conditions without the right tools.
I have a 2003 Mazda 6 which has just begun to send smoke out of the vents when the aircon is on! Any ideas what this could be? It's still blowing ice cold! No electrical smell either. Thanks great vid!
everyone wonders why i do the work on my own cars and dont try to become a mechanic its not all fun and games like motor swaps and power upgrades for mechanics its stuff like this and problems with grandma cars gotta love that there is knowledgeable people out there willing to do this work for other ppl great example of why you pay what you pay for shop prices great job
hey i have a Japan import Mazda 6, on my gear knob there a hold button. I am trying to remove, I have removed the 2x screws but since it has a button on it I'm a bit scared to just pull it do you have any ideas? also at 70kms it feels like the car it missus but only feel it at 70kms any ideas?
Thank you. Great video. Coolant leaked all over the interior of my Protege and destroyed the upholstery. I ripped it out this evening, and now I know the dash has to come out for me to get to the cooling system tomorrow. Not liking Mazda right now. >:-[
@CooperLakeAutomotive Thank you for you replay......It take 7hours of work for the Job. Honda wants 1400 dollars.. and 11hours of work...II got someone to do it for 500 dollars the best price on town...
Es mucho trabajo hacerlo Honda dealer necesita 11horas de trabajo.. lo hicieron por menos y se llevo 8horas...Saludos..
OMG! How many hours did it take? Since the HVAC module is in the box I suppuse you had to disconnect the high and low pressure lines and clean, vaccum and recharge the system....right?
I am trying to take out the broken tray on top of the dash for the 2005 mazda6. Also the display on console, its a mess can't even read the temperature but i know where to send it to get fixed. I just want to be able to take it out without damaging anything. Could someone help with this problem my address is djjamie@onemain.com :)

@1997FordProbeGT Well when we videoed this it was 97 degrees and the heat index was 108 and about 80 percent humidity. I would say in GA A/C is a requirement.
Just saying...the filter can be accessed if you simply take out the glove box. As for the sensor a pair of nimble hands can access that and easily replace it.
@ProjectRiceCo Nimble hands lol I would love to see that video this thing is buried you can see where it is mounted no way to change it without removing this. As for the filter it can be changed easily with just removing the glove box.
You guys look like you know what you're doing! Its too bad I'm all the way on the other side of the country. Do you know of any shop that does this caliber of work in the San Diego area?
The dash is the most STUPID piece that exists in a car. I have a leaking heater core and I have to do all this to get to it? C'mon car manufactures, make it easier, things like the cabin air filter shouldn't be this hard to get to.
@julinization the cabin air filter is easy to get to it just happens that in the video we had the box out so we could show it that was not what we were repairing
I wish all mechanics were as professional and precise as you guys, then I wouldn't be so worried about the mechanics trying to swindle me. Ashley is definitely a rarity in that line of work, which makes her even more attractive.
what a wonderful guys to make that, it,s a very job very complicated, buy let me say the girl who,s name is ashley is so beautiful and i really like her... congratulations honey.....i hope you some day can fix my car mazda 626.........
*sigh* I just sent an email to someone selling this vehicle. I need a car. But after this video - I don't want it. What does it cost for you to change this sensor? Is the part itself expensive? Thanks. Great video! Good luck Ashley!
i have to do this to my car (mustang) it got in a crash and the dashboard is messed up so i have to change it, but the part that scares me is removing the steering wheel is it complictaed, an is it easy to lose track of things when removing the steering wheel?
Honestly this is god awful. Not the craftsmanship but the job. I have a 2005 town and country and need to get to my AC unit and this scares the shit out of me.
I can't believe how hard it is to change the filter on this car in the video. The engineers should be hung from a tree.
Great job on this btw... Also the girl in the vid is a hottie.
@gravyfury the filter is not that hard we were just right there showing it easily the problem with this car was a sensor located in the Evaporator Core the Cabin Air filter is relatively easy to change.
hard to me means LOTS of steps and piece removal's. Props to these people. epic fail to the engineer. As a wear item it should be as easy as the air filter. (engine air filter)
My god... you guys are amazing... How many years of experience have you had doing this? More importantly... how do you guys even learn stuff like this?!!
@kyungjinn Thank you I have 23 years experience and Ashley is my intern she has about 1 year experience she is a very good student and learns very fast. She is a natural Automotive Technician and really loves cars she is a rarity. We learn this by doing it, we are masters of taking things apart and putting them back together with no parts or pieces left over. We do jobs like these because for us this is fun and we get paid for it. How can you beat that?
Yes it looks that way because the camera is not level we only have 1 camera so we have to take it out to shoot the part where we put the sensor in and when we put it back in the car we messed up the angle. There is no tripod small enough that I know of to place the camera where it has to be for this video so we are using various things to shim the camera for the correct angle. If you look before the dash is removed it is level then it is not@lemonlime301
from the experience, theres always been x amount of extra screws you will find after reinstalling.
this is the best to do, video taping, so that you can always go back and check what you missed
