Apples and oranges. With a digital delay you will hear every attack crystal clear, most analog delays tend to "drown out" the attack, making for a softer, smoother sound. I generally prefer analog delays myself, but it depends on what you use it for
I sincerely think analog delay is no better than digital and vice versa. Analog delay has that warm sound, very nice for smooth solos, but very short range. 300ms is standard, but carbon copy has 600ms. Digital delay is nice and versatile, 1 second on digital delay is nothing. You can always Keeley Mod a Boss DD3 to give it that analog delay sound, or go with something like a TC Flashback.
I have both these and the way huge aqua puss in my board. But I'm a delay junkie. All are great just at different things, but I would lose either mxr or way huge before the boss. Gotta has digital sometimes.
holy shit. the MXR sounds so damn good. it makes the repeats just melt together, and it's very creamy and smooth sounding. the Boss isn't bad, but you can hear the attack from the pick more. like i said, it's not necessarily a bad thing. just depends on what you're looking for
i have both. BUT, the dd3 is the throw around, take to practice and whatever pedal. the carbon copy will always be the winner for both digital and analog delays under $250-ish for me. But I'm seriously considering changing the led. its so bright that i can't read the controls if the room is even dim. if its dark on stage- forget it, you can't see shit. haha
@tralfamadorian42 I got the MXR Phase VH and felt the same about the blue LED. I put a piece of masking tape on it and that's it! I want my pedals to sound good and not to look good! :)))

Is that the David Gilmour signature guitar you have there? ;-)

the weakness off analog delay is it doesn't cut through the band situation..still i hold to the dd3 but i don't hate the analog one..

The only complain I have about the MXR is that it's delay is only 600ms. I like me some long delay.

Digital -V- Analog, it depends on the VIBE you want.
Digital="Show me all the gritty aliasing on the pick attack"
Analog="Make it Lo-Fi but Sweet"
The Modulation on the MXR makes it more than just an echo.

How long can a delay from an Analog pedal last?
oneofthesenights1974 3 months ago
honestly I can't see Boss has any opportunity to beat MXR
