This was so awesome. I am having some real problems with my shelter dog and am so tired of the "got show 'em who's boss!" attitude I keep running into. These videos and others are inspiring and prove that positive training works great and is a whole hell of a lot more fun than constantly being on guard because your dog is showing signs of wanting to be the alpha...please. Dogs aren't wolves and your dog knows your not a dog.
Great! Never thought of using toys as reward instead of treats. This might be better for my girlie. There can't be enough action for her. Thanks a lot for sharing! I'll try that.
I use toys as rewards with my dog anyway. They never spoil (like food can). My dog loves his treats, don't get me wrong, but he'll go over the top for the chance to chase and retrieve his ball.
I tried this with to teach a number of dogs loose leash walking. I was utterly amazed. I had expected it to work to some degree on a couple of dogs. but the whole class had awesomely walking dogs after about 20 minutes the first time they triedn it. It is a wonderful way to teach the dog.
