I can't help, watching this one over and over again every once and a while... How seldom wisdom shines through the medium of pop culture... But the more precious it becomes... ;-)
God is different to everyone. Each and everyone on this planet has a different idea of what God is. While most ideas of God are similiar there are very tiny differences. The truth about god can never be known until the day we stand before him, her,it. To say before such time that you know the will and mind of god is pure arrogance or fabrication.
I like how no show show actually took an idea as simple as sitting the characters down and talking philosophy with each other, without feeling the need to add in a crisis or two.
Perhaps the one thing I didn't like about the show was that almost everyone was either involved in the Shadow War or their own Civil War (Earth civil war, Minbari civil war). It kind of drained the impact the show had on me, having too much fighting and I would have preferred to have it kept simple, back in the times where only the Narn and Centauri were battling it out.
Quite appropriate use of a B5 clip. I've just bought the boxset (having seen the odd episode) and have got to say it really is better than other series in dealing with the big issues. Shame is suffered towards the end with Season 5 (although this was one of the exceptional episodes in said season).
Stop the video before he repeats, "What is truth, and what is god", and it's a pretty solid clip. Thumbs down for the end of it to B5 for sure. Just my opinion.
season 5 had a lot of faults, and the plotline had less integrity than seasons 2, 3, and 4. i'm aware of the reasons for that (they wrapped the series after season 4 cos of no budget, then got optioned for season 5 after everything was written to end).
even strascynski was disappointed with season 5.
the final episode was amazing. but yeah, season 5 was a bit inconsistant, whereas 2, 3, and 4 sizzled throughout.
Babylon 5 was a great series. G'kar perhaps more then any other character really evolved over the course of the series.
One of his followers even noted a bible like inconsistency in his demeanor from vengeful to more pacifistic while reading his book which was written over the course of nearly three seasons (years) and demonstrates just how much he changed.
It's unfortunate that the two main cast members shown here are deceased.
yeah, Nathan told me that a couple weeks ago, i had been unaware.
with B5, what they lacked in budget they made up for in depth. when it was on TV, waiting the week between episodes was pure torture.
also, when on TV, you never knew, a main character could pop it at any time. they shed them frequently enough to give the impression that the story was more important than the characters. in that sense, B5 was, and is, ahead of most shows, crap costumes notwithstanding :-)
Actually I saw the show after it already aired. Downloading it online after coming across it on wikipedia so I never had to wait a week to watch them.
It took about 24 or so to download a full season, but even that was torture. I watched the entire series minus a few of the last episodes in about two weeks time. (that's a lot of hours of my life in such a short period)
Paul, I thought this was a perfect way to show your point, and many others..I never actually watched this show, but this part was very good! Thank you for posting it.
~Hugs~ Hope you are doing well after the votebot thing. People really amaze me. I guess they really have nothing better to do these days....
I never got into this show. I'm sure there was some good stuff that came from it. I watched it once in a great while... but it just never did anything for me. Oh well, to each his own :)
This dialogue was good though...
ah, and as for the vote bots... a lot of us got hit last night. I turned off ratings on my videos after I started noticing them all going down.
At the end of the video, did the group just agreed to his metaphore, the river explaination? I mean in a way it was the simplest to understand.. is that the only one they understood?
The first one was way better and I'd accept that metaphore above the last. I can't really say I'm all that impressed by it though.
Thanks for posting this nonetheless. :)
P.S. If I found out alien lifeforms also believe in God, I won't be around for that long. :P
they basically didn't understand the subtle message, so he gave them a simple one that they could understand, despite it not actually answering the question.
Wow, powerful message Funk especially the last part. People that are not willing to listen to the truth but only to what they want to be the truth. My light is quiet huge as the truth goes above everything with me, so I seek it.
2:00 err? i must be over tired, or need to order mushrooms on my next pizza. Still see a group thought in session, the one in the centre knows as much as everyone else (explains why their always agreeing, on any thought, and metaphore)
ah it must be late, for the first 30 seconds I expected one to start getting drunk off of spoiled milk, [alien nation]
I cannot believe your account got votebotted, from what I have seen you've always been kind and fair, must be that person who thinks they are the centre of the universe, or at least their own.
lol, yeah, they targetted videos of my paintings, poems, etc....
y'know, just the subversive stuff.
pah, when all my friends started getting botted in the recent round, i disabled about 150 video ratings, and let them have the others. just to see if they WOULD bot my paintings and stuff.
its just vandalism, but since nothing is actually broken, time to pick a flower and stroll on...
To know god out of existence and to know god in existence and to perceive them both at once is godhead, can you perceive gods resplendent beauty and awful torridness?
I've never seen the show, and now I regret it. lol I think we all feel his frustration sometimes, but with me, I enjoy the climb even if I never get to the top. It helps remind me of why I feel the way I do, so I don't become dogmatic. Thanks again for great post. I'm going to favorite this one.

I'm sad they didn't know they were going to have the 5th season. I'd have liked to have seen the fully expanded Shadow war and Earth Civil War arcs.

But the whole point was that the student didn't understand the answer, and would only accept something trite and ambiguous.
