I just met with a metal detector salesmen tonight, he suggested the Whites CoinMaster if your just starting off and even showed me it. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be getting it for Christmas. First place I'm gonna check is the back yard. My mother told me about a bag of coins her and her brothers buried back there. She said it was a bunch of old quarters, nickels, and dimes and they were dated before 1964, 1964 or sooner quarters, nickels, or dimes are made of silver.
@RecoveringRelics Yeah, I'm gonna try to record it and put it on youtube. I'm really hoping I find that bag of coins. I really hope I can be as luckly as you and find a gold ring sometime or maybe a gold bracelet. You ever found any gold bracelets on any of your hunts?
Just curious if a metal detector will pay for itself for the average person? Have you recovered enough in coins or valuables to break even with the investment for the machine?
@AngelaA81410 Yes, a metal detector will pay for itself if given the time and patience. For me it almost paid for itself with one find with the ring I found in the video. If you buy a more expensive machine, then it will obviously take longer to pay itself off. Both of my detectors have paid for themselves already.
@RecoveringRelics If your worried about weather the metal detector will pay for it self, then your missing the whole point of the hobby. If you go to Vegas do you expect to win a million dollars,or do you go there to have fun and maybe win a few dollars.
@bingobongo445 I was replying to someones elses question and trust me I'm not missing the point of this hobby, haha. I love metal detecting and the value of my finds doesn't matter to me (unless of course we're talking about a gold watch covered with diamonds, then it would matter, haha). Lighten up man! :)
@Mr12gman12 I would recommend the Whites CoinMaster, the detector you see in the video. There are some other good options for detectors in that price range such as the Garrett Ace 250. Good luck.
@MrIHateStuff I would start with a low priced detector such as the Whites CoinMaster or the Garrett Ace 250. I use the Whites CoinMaster, and as you can see from the video it does a great job and I have found a lot with it. Watch YouTube videos of different metal detectors and see which one you like the most. Good luck!
@TonyGreens99 I haven't used the Garrett Ace 250 before, so I can't really answer this. The CoinMaster is a very good machine and I like it a lot. I've heard very good things about the Garrett Ace 250 too.
Your my hero right now lil man... I jus got one and gonna start tomorrow... I'll be posting videos too with my flip cam ... This seems very promising ... I live in Hawaii so I hope to get some nice investment relics
I am curious why you think your first non-gold ring was a masonic ring? Is there something written on the inside band? Having had the master mason look at your ring, he says it's not masonic in his opinion. Most rings have a square and compass, broken columns, two columns and a skull, a triangle with a YOD in the center, sometimes the yod is by itself, two balls and a cane....etc etc.
@coltenandscott It's illegal to metal detect on private property without permission from the land owner. You are allowed to metal detect at public places such as parks, beaches, playgrounds, etc. unless its posted that metal detecting is not allowed.
in case you never found out I think the DG means "gold filled" which is better than gold plated but not solid gold although I could be wrong, the best way is to take it to a jeweler..
@savagenomore It means Dolce Gabbana or Delta Gamma. Usually gold filled rings aren't so clean. I think you're right, I should take that to a jewler and have them check it out and see if they can tell me what the stone is. I think the stone is Citrine though. Thanks for watching!
I'm new in metal detecting and i was given permission to detect on an 1723 historic house here in connecticut. I want to take the best out of this,so before i go i want to get any advices from the professionals on how to look for the best spots on a property this old. I will appreciate all comments! Thanks
@norgeman36 Go around the places where the most activity would have been (ex. along stone walls, paths, driveway, foundations, etc.) If there is any type of out-building in the yard, detect around that. Good luck! Tell me if you find anything!
@Saturnstales I get embarrassed to metal detect in public places sometimes too. I'm getting over it now because there's nothing to be embarrassed about really, and if you don't go to public places you won't find as much. Good luck to you, I know it's tough going into public sometimes.
@ZZMann33 Thanks. No I haven't sold it and I don't think I will either. I bought the metal detecting for $180 at my local White's Electronics dealer. Thanks for watching!
That gold ring was an awesome find. The gemstone looks like a citrine, or possibly a topaz. I've never seen DG for a marking before. I sure hope i find a gold ring sometime with my detector -- a gold pen lid is all the gold i've found so far. Continued good luck!
Nice find! I got my first metal detector in today (got it for my birthday) and tried the jewelry hunting settings according to the way the manual said to set it up. Looked around a little bit on the side of my house and picked up a tone that the manual says could indicate something gold. I'm going to try digging it up tomorrow and hopefully it'll be my first gold ring (or something) find!
@RecoveringRelics Yep, I dug it up. Unfortunately, it looked like just a wrapper of some sort. I couldn't tell of what though. But I'm not too disappointed though. I'm guessing most people's trash to good finds are pretty big with metal detecting.

Have whites coinmaster, just purchased. Three days of use...found 1875 seated dime, 2 mercs, canadian 1912 quarter, ladies Waltham, gold filled watch, and about 4.00 in clad. Have had the DFX, and did not have any luck. The coinmaster is pretty awesome!
Congratulations Ryan !..... Excellent Gold Ring and Great Find .
I also noticed on your 40th video ( finds of 2010 ) that your voice is changing .... looks like I won't be calling you " kid " anymore .... you've grown into a fine young man and again, your parents must be very proud of you .
Good Luck on your next hunt ...( Once the snow finally melts )
@DigginAmerica Thanks Bill!! I appreciate it! My voice changed a lot and I'm taller than my dad now! I've been stuck inside for almost two months but the snow is starting to melt here and I might even go detecting next week. Have you gone back to that old bottle dump or the cellar hole? Thanks again! HH!
Congrads nice ring heres some hints for better hunting. nice swing but I noticed that you have some loose wire at your head you really dont want any loose wire there it needs to be wrapped around your shaft and you can run your finds over the top of your coil it works just the same as bottom
@sabinerater Thanks for the tips! I've been getting false signals, maybe its because of the loose wire. I'll fix that up in the spring. Too much snow here for me to dig right now! HH!
Garrett Ace 250 is the starter that is a great unit for around $212 and will serve you well as you get used to the hobby. You'll know if you are hooked in about 1 day with the Ace 250!
WOW ! That gold ring look as though it had an excellent emerald cut Citrine Gemstone center stone in it. That must of cost a pretty penny in it's day. Keep up the hunt !
Thanks for watching! My house was built in 1963, but my neighbor's house was built in 1704, and there used to be another old house next to mine that they tore down.
Nice ring....And I love the padlocks....I've done pretty good with them myself.....Now that you have the coinmaster, you should consider a pinpointer so you don't have to wave all that dirt in front of the coil.....You'll wonder how you ever did without one....HH
Thanks treasureoasis! I want to get the Garrett ProPointer but I just need to save up for one. Hopefully I'll get one before the 2011 season begins. HH!
@chinchillaman1 What are you presently metal detecting with? I've been MDing now for 1 year and I started with Garrett GTAx550 and I've been quite successful and also own a Coinmaster 6000di pro (older analog detector). I know Whites has a strong reputation for quality that's why I have 1. If you have any questions shoot me a msg and I'll get right back you to.
Awesome job on that ring man. I don't have one yet. You might want to look into a pin pointer. I use the Garrett propointer and I know where you can get it for under $100. But if you want a cheaper one, Harbor Freight makes one that sells for $16. It won't go deep in the hole, but it is great for finding it in the dirt pile. Again congrats on the ring...
UGH your so darn lucky! I wish I could find stuff like that! All I find is old junk like golfball skins and old mail package tape D: Found a bit of glass too but all the really neat stuffs been dug apparently already. I have an old gravesite urn and what appears to be a cannon ball! I'd sooo wear those rings o.o to like party's and stuff! be like "Yea found it diggin in my yard wait... does this mean I'm a free mason if I'm wearin this?" xD
Haha, thanks for watching! My fingers are too small for the ring! Don't give up, there is A LOT of great stuff to be found thats still out there! Keep on digging, you'll find some nice stuff if you do your research and never give up! Good luck and Happy Hunting!
@RecoveringRelics Well just wait till ya can wear those rings hehe. Myself I would'nt sell either ring for anything! Now... if a museum wanted to rent it thats another thing xD
Nice stone in that ring too! Congrats on your first gold ring. I liked the format of your video too. Scenes of you swinging the coil interspersed with still photos of your finds. Very well done. HH and on-on.

Thanks for watching Jersey Digger! I really want a Garrett ProPointer. Hopefully I can get one before the 2011 digging season. HH!

UGH your so darn lucky! I wish I could find stuff like that! All I find is old junk like golfball skins and old mail package tape D: Found a bit of glass too but all the really neat stuffs been dug apparently already. I have an old gravesite urn and what appears to be a cannon ball! I'd sooo wear those rings o.o to like party's and stuff! be like "Yea found it diggin in my yard wait... does this mean I'm a free mason if I'm wearin this?" xD
reddreamer 1 year ago
Haha, thanks for watching! My fingers are too small for the ring! Don't give up, there is A LOT of great stuff to be found thats still out there! Keep on digging, you'll find some nice stuff if you do your research and never give up! Good luck and Happy Hunting!
