UK is actually a sovereign state consisting of four countries. But I honestly think that its the American's attitude that makes them ignorant to the rest of the world. I mean I've read their school textbooks, and they're taught that America is the only important place in the world. So they wouldn't view knowledge of Uzbekistan as worthwhile...

It probably depends on the quality of the education you receive. I'm U.S. American and I don't ever remember being taught that the United States is the most important place in the world. It's mostly propaganda from the media that creates that general opinion amongst the ignorant masses. Besides, most Americans don't really pay attention in school (excluding college) anyway, and if you're actually interested in learning something, they look at you like you have a disease.
