  • HOW DID I NOT HEAR FINEGAR @ 1:05 ?!

  • WTF I WAS GONNA TAKE VINEGAR !??!?! LOL IT WORKED HAHA LOL I was like he said, dont take first, (I was gonna take some shit) then I was gonna take something he was NEVER gonna think of. VINEGAR I thought lol and then he 3 sec later put a sticker on his back saying that!

  • and it's an amazing video...

  • look at the end, the path that Darren predict is not perfectly match...in the wright side, down....the man should enter to the same lane he pass before

  • " thats make sense?" a confirmation that have been used for derren always after a embed command . And how was commented here the use of phonetic ambiguity while he make a anchor or one analogic mark with non verbal language.

  • i bet he had something to do with the uy not being able to buy balsamic finegar the dy before

  • 'dont necessarily go for the first thing you think of'. Yeah Right

  • Comment removed

  • of course he did a fair bit of kinestetic anchoring as well but yea ..

  • SPOILERS:

    0:42 - red "map" poster.

1:05 - finegar instead of finger

1:17+ - still see red poster

    1:29 - "crisps"

1:42 - cheese and union rather than salt and _____ >>> push you towards/does it work?

2:30 - asked to cover as much of the area as possible while he was already primed with the image of the path he was to take.

  • @FadeLLW Did he say oil 5 seconds before finegar? also, did the man on the intercom say anything related?

  • Most of the decisions on which aisle to turn down are made because there is another "shopper" in his way, forcing him to turn. These people are obviously plants--deliberate obstacles to coerce him into turning down the aisles he does.

  • Love how he does this to guys in the marketing business.

  • 1:45 "salt and ...." whatever

  • Damn he's good. Even if this isn't real it is still entertaining.

  • at 2:40 to 2:45 i think he says finegar in that sentence when hes telling him what the rules are

  • Also at 1:15 on top of the flowers there a banner that has the "path" of what he took just upside down...... this guy is a genius

  • Comment removed

  • 0:50 bloody programming him from the start, with the map in front of his face. You wonder if Derren ever "stops" or "rests" but hes fkn working you the whole time its fked up.

  • yea i got it as soon as he said salt and.... whatever, it trips you up so you can analyze it

  • @PegasusUKNZ i was thinking of salt and peppers. i heard him say finegar instead of finger at 1:05, trick dicky.

  • As soon as he said "trying to push cheese and onion instead of salt and... whatever" at 1:44 I knew it was going to end with someone getting vinegar.

  • 2:57 what is he saying?

  • 300 years ago they would have burned him at a stake

  • processed food is gross!

  • he mentioned: cheese and onion rather than salt and....he didn't finish the sentence.

  • at 1:25 when Derrin says " let me take you around here & show u wat we're gonna do" they walk past this big red sign hanging from the roof (in the background) and it looks exactly like the envelope. Which acts as a map...

  • Comment removed

  • when he shows the plan of the market he holds the plan exactly ho they stand, if you understand what i mean, points on the area where the vinegar is to show the person where to search. He also says: Its quite large, theres a lot of oils...he doesn't say areas...where the oils is it's NOT NECESSARY TO GO FOR THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF... which could be maybe oil of something he has allready in mind... forces him to be "spontanious".

I'm interesting, if you find more... XD

    Greets from Germany

  • finegar...taste.../ you prefer up to there . Buy the way!

  • He says buy the way more than one time! perfect anchor.

  • Interesting.. also when he says he has free choice.. and where to begin he points in the direction of the market where the vinegar is.. and says: "Buy the way!" / "By the way"

  • @azboy140 after he says "finegar" he constantly waves his fingers asking about making choises and at 1:15 he uses the word manipulation while touching him

  • I could not figure out how Derren knew the path? I have to watch it again. I thought Derren had the envelope and shopping cart had a tracking device that drew the map. But the shopper pull it out his jacket. Unless Derren slip it in somehow? I believe 0:41 was the end of video, not before.

  • @ 0:40 look familiar

  • This wouldn't work with people who have ADHD.

  • There were 2 subliminal verbal keys. 1 was at 1:06 "finegar" and 1:45 [rather then salt and ... whatever, u know." By leaving out the vinegar in "salt and vinegar" he made him focus on completing the sentence therefor adding vinegar to his sub conscious again.

  • @iMacStuff Yea! nd after that, he says " tryin'a push you towards.." while motioning with his hands down the isle to something. But then carries on with a new sentence to keep the other guy unaware. Then when they walk out of the isle (if u look closely) u can see the balsamic vinegar in the background by the tenfold. He's pure genius i tell ya!

  • 1.41 He says "salt... and whatever..." Suggesting "Salt and Vinegar."

  • LOL i find it funny...Derren Brown had sort of in a way been screaming at his subconscious for six days to follow that route....lol

  • He also says "salt and ___," cutting off of vinegar(salt and vinegar). this makes most of us fill in the blank with vinegar in our head without really paying attention.

  • ouh! look at 0.42 and the envelope that guy was holding on to..

  • I noticed that the sign and the envelope was the same thing, but I didn't know that that would be the man's path

  • cheese and onions rather than salt and .... whatever. lol

  • god all the people contemplating how he must have done hundreds of failed attempts before a success... honestly who the fuck cares? the fact is that he did reach success at some point.

  • ...? that same sign was in the back when they were talking in front of the flowers

  • 0:50 behind his head ?

  • anyone notice at :45 the think over the vegetables that kinda looks like a path?

  • Bwahaha its so funny at 4:06, this is the first time i've seen that he actually snickered at the fact that he tricked someone

  • I'm not sure if someone mentioned it before but at 1:46 Derren mentions cheese and onion versus salt and ...

    :-)

  • @0x12d3 yeah I noticed that on my second watch-through, so it seems like he was using language cues to make him pick vinegar but that doesn't explain the path, still trying to figure that part out.

  • @SlickSwiftProduction There are many ways he could have done this. I think it had 2 different influences. First, the image the man saw, was perhaps able to subconsciously replicate on the map(though this alone may not be enough). Second, Derren Brown may have set up the aisles and the store(like signs, etc) in a way that would influence the man to go visit this aisle, that aisle, etc.

  • @YuneShik Derren brown has a tendency to plug in the real ways he does things when he poses them as subconcious influence (see the gravekeeper's trick) in this case I'm pritty sure he didn't influence him upon the route he took (the mind even subconsiously couldn't process that image with what directions to take). That would lead me to believe that you may be on to something in that he had things in the store that would lead him exactly where derren brown wanted him to go.

  • @SlickSwiftProduction Actually it may be well possible. Have you heard of how much the subconscious can catch? I usually disprove of Mythbuster's technique of testing myths but they actually did a part where they remembered things that they didn't know they remembered.

Likewise, the fact that the man was given an envelope ahead of time and even had the same image in the entrance of the store may have allowed a deep embedding of the image.

  • @SlickSwiftProduction And to let you know, I have studied great illusionists and psychological performers, including Derren Brown and Paul Mckenna. In fact I have also studied the workings of hypnosis and the subconscious mind, and its effect by Neuro-linguistic programming, so I am not new to misdirection nor to subconscious influence.

  • 'Does that make sense' He says it all the time to tell the victim that it makes sense.

  • I don't doubt that we are all fairly stupid and easily manipulated and I really like Derren Brown as well...but these things I view with a little mistrust. How many people were actually used for this experiment? Did 1/1 pick the "right" item? 1/10, 1/100? I would like to see people who know Derren and know he is manipulating them still fall for it. The "I know what you're doing guy" that gets taken. That would be cool.

  • I remember seeing this on T.V. when I went to england. I wondered what it was.

  • sitting on the trolley..

  • he says "salt and.... whatever just to get him to pick the right thing when he gets to the right place,

  • The way he slips the subliminal word of "vinegar" into the speech beforehand is classic.

  • tipped off with an anchor?

while he walked past the vinegar he probably used the same anchor

  • 1:07 - finiger lol what we want

  • @adroit86 Lol. He's a psychological genius.

  • @adroit86 Learn to spell.

  • +suggestion

  • 1:26

  • 0:41

  • towards the end... his "genuineness" is questionable due to poor editing.. is it magic, is it prediction, bad change of sound!

  • "Salt and"

  • Thats why the CIA activally tries to recruit gays, they're used to living in a world of deceit & trickery to survive in this world

  • darren is too awsome

  • 1:27 - there's the map. the only thing i spotted

  • Begin, we KNOW there is a lot of subtle manipulation.ALWAYS WALK into fresh fruits and veg...cheese and onions rather than salt and..?? put their vinegar on it.. mirror at 2 00 - 06 tactile anchor support verbally begin at 3 17 instruct: down, then over, the whole store, you are DRAWN towards hypnotic sugg. think about as you walkaround AS you walk around as LOong as you know this is a genuine...whatever...he is embedding commands to follow drawing on map in pocket hanging in every aisle.

  • much faker than it seems.great magic though!

  • Yeah 1:40 - 1:48...he mentioned potato crisps and their flavors, "cheese and onion or salt and...whatever". He forced the subject to finish the sentence in his own mind. The answer was of course vinegar...I wonder if he has to film 10 of these sessions before one turns out correctly though...surely not everybody would choose vinegar?

  • That is not magic!!!!!Damn this is the perfect mirror image

  • Yes he say finegar instead finger!he put the things in ur mind!!smart!!wish i could do it!glad for him!keep it up!!thanx

  • when he supposedly said "the supermarket can put their finger on.." he said "finegar" instead of "finger"! 1:05-1:10 figured out a part :D

  • nice catch lol XD

  • took a second view to catch that seed. As far as predicting his path, Darren pointed and suggested for him to start going left. When he said, "if you prefer up through there" (pointing left), his tone of voiced changed to imply a more desirable route. Then when he sends him off he steps off to the left as if to create a path for him to start walking in that direction.

  • the path was ingrained on the envelope and he was reminded of it again by the big red sign over the multicolored flowers.... he had been influenced starting from 6 days prior.... it's actually quite simple... the seeding you're speaking of is merely slight enforcement and he would have chosen that path anyway. As for picking out the vinegar, that was what was at the end of the path. Darren clearly knew what was in that isle so... yeah.

  • @aznboy140 Yes--it's funny, at this point I can notice when his patter is trying to put something in subliminally, and I got that he was trying to do something there, but it still passed me by! The man is so good at this.

    Also, "Salt and...." :-)

  • @aznboy140 I noticed that too! except... I actually thought he said vinegar, literally meaning that they sprinkled vinegar on their products... I was slightly bemused....

  • @aznboy140 He also leaves you thinking "vinegar" when he is talking about chip flavors.

  • Comment removed

  • @aznboy140 He also suggests that people buy the supermarkets own brands instead of home brands, such as, "Cheese and onion, Salt and _____, leaving it open for the man to insert 'vinegar' in there from his own thought process, and thus influencing his decision. 1:38 - 1:48

  • @LaidBakGamer ah so he does. I was wondering what the point of all that small talk was. Well spotted!

  • @P1eski thank you lol, i love the way he verbally pushes the importance of it through by adding... "push you towards".. after it. Brown has a brilliant mind.

  • @aznboy140 so your saying the power of suggestion?

  • @aznboy140 The phenomenon is true and has about 60% success. A tv show though is not "allowed" to risk.

    HE IS A DERREN'S COLLEAGUE.

  • @aznboy140 at 1:43 I hear something about "super flavors" and the kino word of push. Did you get that?

  • @aznboy140 Salt and... 'whatever'

  • @zakkmiester that worked well, in essence, there and then was the last subliminal message, i wish i could learn how to do this!

  • @aznboy140 And he also said "Instead of Cheese and onion get Salt and.... Whatever" which made the guy automatically think "Vinegar" ;)

  • @aznboy140 also watch what he doesn't say at 1:42 - 1:46 he says 'salt and...' skips the vinegar part. lol.

  • i have seen professors putting a piece of paper with something written on it like " l7yu67!" into a students' shirt pocket, and ofcourse the student did not know what is written on it and then making him choose exctly the same from the choice of all the alphabets and nembers and symbols, writing it on the board as the student choose. prof would then ask the student to see what was written on the piece of paper in his pocket. It would match 100% as on board.

  • i dnt get that orange thing, in one of his other videos, that orange map flashed for half a second randomly..hes tryin to send us sum msg! even in the one where the woman makes another woman stop just by believing, there was sume weird image that flashed randomly.

  • haHA i guessed derren browns TRICK!!! ILL TELL YOU ALL! observe how in the begining he mentions CHIPS, and he says the flavour "Salt & -- Whatever.." This is subliminal suggestion which made him think of VINEGAR!! WOO HOO

  • Havent seen it done myself, but i also thought about the wierdness of him not finishing "salt & vinegar" : )

  • also when he said buy me some milk, when he said that i thought 'f-- u darren i'm buying the opposite. where's the vinegar'

  • dude, i BET derren brown knows heapppppps of subliminal ways to pull chicks!!!!!!

  • he shows an episode of that.

  • yeah, seeing as hes gay and all

  • he can make you turn gay by using subliminal messages. LOL

  • Darren Brown: HI, penis MY cock NAME anal IS homo DARREN rainbow BROWN.

    You: ._.

  • @elpinta great now i dont want to watch shit like this anymore ROFLMFAO

  • @elpinta

    Either gay,

or have an unusual attraction to cucumbers.

  • What would he want with chicks?

  • he's accualy gay it says on his website

  • When the man turns left in the middle of the aisles, deviating from his former path, he does so to avoid another shopper coming down the aisle towards him. Most likely a plant by Derren.

  • 1:06 "Put the vinager"

  • holy shit, nice observation!

  • who cares. Its about how fake it is. These a psychologicla games that are amazingly put together wonderfully, that are almost unbelievable. I guess its up to YOU if you think its a hoax or not, you'll never know.

  • The troubling thing is you dont know if its faked or not.

  • when talking about people buying supermarket brands over other brands he says

"what makes people buy cheese and onion over salt and ............................"then stops mid sentence

probably has something to do with it

  • does anyone think derren is kind of mocking him in the beginning with the whole "oh yea the level of manipulation is amazing" when he's really saying "I'm about to own you on national TV"

  • i called that heard it in the very beginning and tried to find connecting comments

  • 1:06 when he says vinegar, but i think he was trying to make you think he was saying fitting guard?

  • cool, yeah youre right."while picking his shoulder hes saying "put there vinegar"

  • love the hand bit in the beginning

  • Thats crazy

  • amazing

  • it wasn't like he just said "OOo salt!" and the guy thought, vinger, it's the way it put it across, firstly by saying at the start "supermakets are presumabley able to put there 'vinger' on our sort of taste" and when they're walking round he says " trying to push you to cheese and onion and not salt and.." which will make you think vinger, plus the influence was there when he mentioned "putting there vinger on it" so it'll push you more towards vinger even without you knowing it :)

  • people don't follow every suggestion in life like that. If someone mentions "salt, and ...." that does not result in me buying vinegar, even if a map is given me. McDonalds commercials can cause me to think of McDonalds, but that doesn't mean I'm going there to eat. The shopper had to already have a need for it you see, how many people failed to get the vinegar?

  • 0:41 << The route he took around the supermarket to the vinegar =D

  • "Looking at the crisps, the way they... Jesus they really are clamping down on prices!"

    Haha :-D

  • 0:41

  • I can't see how that isn't phsycic

  • 1:44 - cheese and onion, rather than salt &... whatever [vinegar] - suggestions, suggestions

  • 'They're absolutely able to put their [finger jab to chest] ff...vinigar on our sort of choices and tastes and the things that we may buy...''

    Prediction adds up to suggestion.

The trick is, that when it comes into his conscious, he believes he thought of it himself.

    Neat.

  • What is he saying a 1:06 finger or vinegar 

  • its a subline message to get out more jerky

  • I thought he was using phonetic ambiguity, saying multiple things at the same time, cuz it sounds like he's suggesting vinegar, but that he was trying to make us think he was saying "fitting guard" or "finger", not sure.

  • Lol! I love the power our minds have over us. Its really staggering, and kind of cool at the same time.

Are we all this easily influenced? Even if we think we aren't, we know its true.

Little things really do make all the difference. I think its awesome how he was able to predict the man's path through the store also. :)

  • It wasnt that he predicted the mans path, rather that the man took that path because he had been influenced by the markings on the envolope. Its the power of suggestibility.

  • superior? lol, I am just skeptical, but almost all the guys who comment here buy this stuff as 100% truth just because Derren says it is. You see what you want to see.

  • Dont you see that he is infact the one that enjoys uncovering frauds. If you watched his massaih special you would know this. You obviously just cant handle that someone is honest in this life.

  • I don't. The whole point of the show is to make you THINK of all possible possibilities. Some times i think to myself that the actual trick is that all of this is fake, and everyone is a planted stooge and all is staged. Point is, its making me think further and further each time.

  • Exactly... As much as I would love to be completely convinced I cant help thinking that its just sliiightly too good to be true. I know that people are stupid and easily manipulated, but were also pretty intelligent... Can anyone please prove that NLP works?

  • i think he does fail at times. we just see it when it works. in "paying with paper" we see him fail to give a hotdog vender paper instead of money, however he succeeds doing the same thing to a jeweler

  • Brilliant, as alwayz!

  • faaake

  • soz your wrong.

  • look at 1:26 There is the sign thats on the envelope only it's upside down!

  • i knew it was going to be vinegar coz when he starts talking about crisp flavours he sez "u can make them choose cheese and onion over salt and..." and then he doesnt finish his sentence so i figure the brain finishes tha sentence and sticks in his mind i just had a gut feeling that was the thing he was gonna get coz ive watched derren browns work a lot and have started to pick up when he does stuff like that lmao

  • Darren reminds me of Rhys Darby aka Murray from Flight of the Conchords

  • oh.my.god. i was just thinking that!!!!!

  • if he grew his hair out longer he would look just like him

  • he wants u to think that he looks like him

he uses his powers to make you think that lol

  • 2.55 One Product / showing his finger

    1.09 vinegar / finger

the main colors what he see till searching for the Product --> ONE VINEGAR red and blue in the empty trolley.

next to the vinegar there's a girl in red with a blue bag with the NIKE sign on it.

it was so easy even i dont speak english too well...:)

  • After watching that im never stepping out my front door again, either that or im gonna be blind folded listening to my (eye POD) lol WHAT OTHER INFLUENCES ARE WE SUBJECT TO?? SUBLIMINALLY???

  • You guys haven't caught ALL the references to vinegar, and you haven't figured out how he controls the movement.

    1. The Big One-the envelope. the paper is soaked in vinegar(slightly) so if the guy investigates, it smells slightly. it has the map route, but thats more to spank the guy when he watches back.

    2. verbal cues. finger/vinegar, salt and (vinegar) crisps. darren tells him to ignore milk and eggs.

    3. Helpers! all other routes are blocked, so he MUST go where darren walks. watch it again.

  • it sounds like he blatantly says vinegar at 1:09

  • i noticed he was controlling him from the very start, but missed all the vinegar references, darn! i think the map was kind of a cheat.

  • 1:30 Darren says "Crisps" to suggest chips

1:45 Darren says "Salt & ...." to create the self suggestion of Vinegar.

  • yes. also at 1:06 he says "vineger" instead of finger..

    very sneaky XD

    i love him.

    xx

  • I agree with your second observation (1.45) but I cannot see how "crisps" would suggest "chips", looking at the edit.

  • yh i noticed that aswell but unly consciously notices when i saw the sighn on his back i wanna learn how to do it theres a website on sum of his other vids it descrete as only a few ppl in the world can properly use this convosational hynosis

  • they're in england... crisps are just what he meant to say.,... chips would mean fries over there... :-)

but yes, the way he trailed off after "salt and" and when he said vinegar instead of finger in the beginning... all little subliminal pushes in his direction...

  • I love the way he says something that completely makes no sense at all but yet makes you think certains things that effects you later on

Most of his tricks uses this technique but i find it funny every time!

  • lol at 1.07....put there ....finiger... on it

  • what is the point of the symbol at 0:41 thts like the 4th vid ive seen it in

  • I guess it's a red herring, perhaps to throw us, the audience off, or to somehow make the guy more suggestible.

  • It's the envelope symbol upside-down.

  • It's the route through the supermarket that Derren correctly guesses the guest will take

  • Lol he was in the trolly at beggning!!

  • That made me chuckle. :D He has a really good sense of humour

  • I actually got it when he fisrt told him what to buy.

I'm quite proud of myself. XD

  • "The level of manipulation is fascinating!" (1:18) lol

  • I noticed the vinegar thing, but I didn't think it was relevant until the bit where he bought it.

  • Firstly he touches him whilst pronouncing finger similar to vinegar.

Secondly he says 'cheese and onion, rather than salt and... whatever', he purposely doesnt say salt and vinegar so that the guy thought vinegar to himself.

In both situations he puts vinegar in his head but also makes sure its connected with something to make him remember, the touch to make him uncomfortable maybe, and the salt and vinegar to make him think of the word vinegar himself.
