Canut's given name is Francois Marie (check out his blog).. Paco's name is either Maurice or Jacques (I can never remember). They were all born in France. The Spanish Civil War was from 1936-1939.

Canut is a surname, from Catalonia (Spain) and François doesn't exist, his name is Paco (if he prefers François is up to him).
To be honest, for me it doesn't matter their nationality, if they feel french or spanish that's ok for me.
I only wanted to say the true story (they were born in Spain, and they grew up in France due to civil spanish war).
