pc's don't break down, i suggest you see mine which has been running fine for 6 years and my other 2 which are still running but just a bit slow in today's standards.
as for the os however, the only reason it's protected from viruses is because no one bothers to make them for mac which is why they're so secure

Im thinking that on the same token of not tarnishing the macbook image, its weird that they would make such a big overhaul in the fall only to then 8 months later doubly overhaul they macbook. Yes, I also think that Apple may launch a new MB line soon. I think they wanna respond to the netbook boom. However, I dont think Apple really wants to launch cheap netbooks because the margin would be too low for them. First of all, I think they will keep the plastic model for macbook until they get a new design that actually SELLS. If they come out with a netbook/tablet that they price too high like they tend to do with some of their products, why get rid of a macbook that has been selling? I also think they should have a 15" white macbook with the same screen as the 13" to make the line a 'cheaper' compeditor to the Pro line, but still have more options than a 13" screen.

I think Apple will definitely announce an addition to the Macbook line. A MacBook Touch is certainly a possibility, because leaving only the white plastic Macbook in the Macbook category is leaving a big gap.

I don't think that Apple is going to slide a tablet Mac in place of the MacBook. Sorry, but I believe you're way off. And I don't think they'll just dump the MacBook Air model either. I think there's going to be a HUGE over-hall of those soon.
Perhaps they have a lot of inventory on the Plastic Models, and they wanted to move those quicker. That will still enable them to slide something in there after that inventory is sold out. Perhaps they will just put the inventory they have of the newer alum. Mac Books. Who knows? Apple does.

Your point about the incomplete MacBook line is a valid one IMO, and may suggest we'll see a smaller screened "netbook" type device in the future. Maybe a 10" screen to fill out the MacBook line.
That said, it may just be Apple simplifying the low-end line. They may just want to keep only the 13" plastic edition around, and let that be Apple's foray into the "netbook" arena.

Not going to happen. Apple has too many products in their whole MacBook line, and since they're always talking about keeping things simple, i don't think they'd want to things so complicated for the end-user, not to mention that almost no one needs a tablet and the demand for them has always been low. Apple will only get a market if they see an opportunity in it to dominate and make revenue.

I think that they will come out with a thicker version of the tablet that will be faster, and they will come out with a thinner version of it that won't be as fast.

I think your predictions are spot on. I think apple has put way too much time and energy into the macbook brand to throw it out later. I know that they'll have to anounce whatever product is coming fast-- early june sounds right-- because they need to get the laptop line settled before the end of summer/prefall purchase rush for college students and the rest. good thinkin jon.

Erm, how are they "abandoning" the Macbook name? Macbook Pro, Macbook Air...still Macbooks, no?
I was more confused by them calling the new, aluminum, Macbook just Macbook and not pro, as it was so much better and looked all different. They'll prolly keep the Macbook proper as the simpler, "home" line and leave the Pro machines to power users.
Also, a TABLET becoming part of the macBOOK family? That would just be retarded, as the whole point of a tablet is that it doen't open like a book.

haha i knew they were gonna re-brand and update the macbooks...i called that a couple months ago when i was talking about to one of my sisters (we both want the 13" unibody)...i told her "just wait a couple more months, trust me, they're gonna update them" and what do you know...THEY DID! hahahaha

Yes, I also think that Apple may launch a new MB line soon. I think they wanna respond to the netbook boom. However, I dont think Apple really wants to launch cheap netbooks because the margin would be too low for them. I wouldnt be surprised if they place a line between regular netbooks and the previous MB series with a 9 or10 screen up to 13.

im not so sure the tablet would fit into the macbook category, cuz it wouldnt open like a book xD. i dunno, just doesnt seem logical to me. and i didnt notice that about the trackpad not getting updated on the air. does it take up too much space? my macbook (late 08 aluminum 2.0ghz) trackpad seems pretty thin under the case, so i wouldnt think itd be much of a space issue. thoughts?

First of all, I think they will keep the plastic model for macbook until they get a new design that actually SELLS. If they come out with a netbook/tablet that they price too high like they tend to do with some of their products, why get rid of a macbook that has been selling? I also think they should have a 15" white macbook with the same screen as the 13" to make the line a 'cheaper' compeditor to the Pro line, but still have more options than a 13" screen.

Well, this pisses me off. I bought the new 13" Alu.Macbook and now it has been further upgraded within a year to now include a SD slot and Firewire!!!

same here bruhy....i got robbed and my old pre unibody multi touch mbp was stolen and allstate paid for and upgraded unibody...i was like yeah!~!!! then 11 days late the coem out with the upgrade...which i knew was coming but i did not see that 7hour battery inclusion....but some how my computer has a better proceessor and graphics...AFTER the price drop...so my old 2500$ mbp is better than the present aside from the battery

You just have to pay 10 percent of the price, put its worth it because its 100 bucks cheaper. their not in stock so i might have to wait a week but atleast i can exchange it..see when you bought maybe you can do the same..good luck

I think Apple will definitely announce an addition to the Macbook line. A MacBook Touch is certainly a possibility, because leaving only the white plastic Macbook in the Macbook category is leaving a big gap.

Perhaps they have a lot of inventory on the Plastic Models, and they wanted to move those quicker. That will still enable them to slide something in there after that inventory is sold out. Perhaps they will just put the inventory they have of the newer alum. Mac Books. Who knows? Apple does.

Your point about the incomplete MacBook line is a valid one IMO, and may suggest we'll see a smaller screened "netbook" type device in the future. Maybe a 10" screen to fill out the MacBook line.
That said, it may just be Apple simplifying the low-end line. They may just want to keep only the 13" plastic edition around, and let that be Apple's foray into the "netbook" arena.

Apple has too many products in their whole MacBook line, and since they're always talking about keeping things simple, i don't think they'd want to things so complicated for the end-user, not to mention that almost no one needs a tablet and the demand for them has always been low. Apple will only get a market if they see an opportunity in it to dominate and make revenue.
