An elephant can lift up to 600 lbs in their trunks and they are more than intelligent enough to comprehend the act of "throwing an object", whether the object is struggling to get out of its grip or not. But that's not really necessary; one forceful swipe from an elephant trunk is enough to kill a lion quite easily.

Asian elephants and African elephants are two completely seperate species, with the Asian being smaller, and by far less agressive...some of them don't even have tusks...

I cannot recall an accurate documentation of a tiger having killed an adult Indian elephant...although some elephants are weary of tigers... Like wise, many individual elephants are weary of lions all over Africa, and would often move from an area because of lions, and resort to "chargng" only as a last resort...
