  • nihon to doitsu wa something!

  • (Part1)The Second Sino–Japanese War was a conflict caused by China. Japan was dragged into a war she had not sought. During the war, Japan never made any territorial demands, nor did she make any demands on interests in China. This is made clear from the Funatsu Peace Initiative (Aug. 1937), the Trautmann Peace Initiative (Dec. 1937), etc., wherein no such demands are made.

  • (Part2)In Jan. 1938, seeing that no Chinese reply to the Trautmann Peace Initiative was forthcoming though the deadline had come, Japanese prime minister Konoe Fumimaro gave up hopes for peace, declaring, “We will no longer deal with KMT Chiang Kai-shek.” Nonetheless, he made many appeals for peace afterward. In November of that year came the second Konoe declaration, wherein he appealed for international justice,

  • his screams for his mother is absolutely heartbreaking..

  • So uh where did the driver go? It's like, the tank bumps into them and bam the driver just disappears? What? haha

  • I remember watching this in high school, we all burst into laughter as we thought Jim had started the invasion of Shanghai from his phony morse lamping

  • lol 6:29 zzzziiiipppp ahhh!

  • AWW!!!

Christian Bale was so cute back then as well ; )

When I first saw this.. I thought ( Who's the kid? He really deserves an oscar or some big award) After seeing the MAchinist in 2004.. I said.. He looks familiar. Looked him up.. and shitted my pants when I found out THAT was Christian BAle in this and The Machinist!

    He's an amazing actor!

  • At minute 329 i think that was Jackie Chan bangin on the window?

  • how were the asian people shooting the Japanese army here?

  • @CocaC The war in China began many many many years before World War 2 Singapore was a colony/protectorate of Britain the Japanese couldnt launch an effective ground campaign in China until they declared war on Britain...

    ink..

The Japanese offensive had been well underway in Manchuria and the South of China in the 30's they did it in response to Maoist rebels bombing a railroad I think..

  • @Hauntedman1 ohh cool nice thanks man I usually read a lot about ww2 but I had not hear about this I'm gonna read some about it

  • @Hauntedman1

General expansion and exploitation of resources to fuel their otherwise struggling economy were the principal reasons I think

  • And they also wanted to unite all "Asians" under one flag if you will, in order to free them from the western influences.

  • @Hauntedman1

"they did it in response to Maoist rebels bombing a railroad I think"

That was the excuse the Japanese military gave. Rather like Germany claiming that Polish troops had attacked a German border post in 1939...

  • Man, hope those two guys at the end were okay.

  • CUANTOS BOMBARDEROS ESTUVIERON VOLANDO

  • fucking brat got what he deserved, didnt listen to his mom and went for his toy............get lost

  • @kishaba1980

Read what you've written and ask yourself the following question -

What kind of person would someone reading this think I am? Am I -

    A) Intelligent, well adjusted and able to state a cohesive argument; or

    B) A dick

    ...

  • @redcardinalist I re-read my comment and my answer is B.....ur right

  • @kishaba1980

Well you're honest :) And I was rude and I apologise.

  • Damn. Christian Bale was hot even as a kid.

  • @roshylov hahhahaha, nice.

  • i'VE seen this film and remember this scene to be very tense and tragic!

  • I saw this in class today - and it was at this very scene that I decided, that the driver was my favorite!

But sadly, he is not mentioned after this scene :(

  • LOL....am I going to school today?

  • Japan tried to take over China for hundreds of years. WW2 was only 1 of many attempts. For being such a relatively small nation, they came very close. The aggression predates WW1. The wars were simply a convenient excuse to intensify the Imperial policy of the era. Japan occupied China in WW1 and sought to expand it's influence from China to the Pacific Islands. They had fancied the Philipines since at least 1908 as my great Grandmother was beheaded by them. (irony=my wife is Japanese)

  • LOL @ the light signals in the beginning. Like playing with fire, don't you?

  • a deep breath

    2. think of someone you like

    3. press F10 5 times

    4. send this to 5 youtube videos

    5. look at ur bkround

  • hell i would've went after my mother.

  • Wait a minute what's happening in this scene? Are the Japanese getting rid of all the foreigners or are they also shooting and attacking their own people??

  • @lavenderblossom The confusion of war, basically Jim and his family try to flee the chaos around then, the Japanese troops march in but are ambushed by Kuomintang irregulars, Jim gets seperated and that sets the stage for the rest of the novel ( a word though, in actual fact, JG Ballard did not get seperated from his parents during the war, I highly recommend reading a copy of " Empire of the Sun" and Ballard's biography " Miracles of Life" from your local library) :) hoped that helped!

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to write it out ^^

I'm really interested in these kinds of things, but I've just started really looking them up, so I'm not to good lol.

    Thanks!

  • @lavenderblossom

Chinese Nationalist Party bombed on Shanghai. Not Japanese troops. These Asian civilian who are Chinese, Not Japanese. They are dressed in China. The then, Chinese was British Servant. Japanese Military Personnel were attacked by Chinese. THAT is why we fought back. That is why the war started.

  • @kaito8209

I LOVE when Trolls respond to me!!

  • @lavenderblossom

Chaiang Kai-seki killed many own civilians by bombing of shanghai. "Chinese kill Chinese" "Chinese eat Chinese" That is Chinese traditional Custom.

  • @kaito8209

Have fun Trolling, and good day!

  • @lavenderblossom

Yes, I LOVE Trolling!!! about Chaiang Kai-seki's wrong.

  • @lavenderblossom

(Part2)Before Chiang Kai-shek ordered the Yellow River Flood, he commanded his troop retreat from the area. However, he did not tell the people, therefore, many people were killed by the Chinese government. Fortunately Japanese troop was not damaged by this ridiculous strategy. After that, two of the Japanese troops helped a lot of Chinese people on June 12, 1938. Also the Japanese started to rebuild the embankment of the yellow river.

  • @kaito8209 you mean killed, raped, tortured? and use chemical and biological weapon against civilian?

  • Comment removed

  • @wwlus

(Part2)Furthermore, as reported in the article of the Chicago Daily News dated on February 9, 1938, the Japanese Army investigated criminals about SEVEN cases and severely punished them. The punishment was so severe that some complaints were expressed among the soldiers.

→Chapter II →3. Systematic large scale looting and rape →Argument 9 Did the Japanese Army commit systematic rape?

  • @wwlus

    《The truth of the rapes》強姦事件の真相

(Part1)how many cases of rape were (including attempted) reported in the documents by the Safety Zone Committee? The total number was 361. And among them, there were only 61 cases, which definitely clarified who witnessed the cases, who heard and reported. Among these cases, only SEVEN cases were clarified to be crimes committed by Japanese soldiers and notified the Japanese Army of the crime in order to disclose the fact and to capture the suspects.

  • @wwlus

【Part2】In this situation, if the Japanese Army had constituted an infringement of international humanitarian laws in the manner of repeatedly committing atrocities to citizens and POWs, westerners would have been critical and the U.S. and Europe would have started economic sanctions against Japan accordingly. The fatal damage to Japan would have been inevitable. Having been well aware of these circumstances, the Japanese government had to absolutely avoid unnecessary and unlawful acts.

  • @wwlus

《On the contrary, Japan had a motive to avoid illegal actions》

【Part1】In those days Japan, running short in natural resources, entirely relied on the U.S. and Europe for the import of munitions and fuel, actually 65% of the import was from the U.S. and Europe. The embargo from the U.S. was barely avoided at the close of the Manchurian Incident, but at the start of the China Incident, the U.S. government began to think of drastic economic sanctions against Japan.

  • @wwlus

【Part3】in order to avoid friction with key trade partners such as the U.S. and the U.K. As a result even pocketing of a pair of shoes could be a case which had to be tried by the court-martial.

  • @wwlus

【Part2】How drastically did these principles prevail?

WAKISAKA Jiro, the commander of the 36th Regiment, the 9th Division stated in his affidavit presented to the IMTFE that such was rigidity of orders that a certain paymaster lieutenant was given penalty at the military court only for carrying woman's shoe of this pair found on the street back to his unit.

The Japanese Army was greatly concerned about soldiers' illegal actions in Nanking

  • @wwlus

《Japanese military discipline was very strict》

    日本の軍規は非常に厳しかった。

【Part1】On the contrary Civilians massacre or Rape,

MATSUI, at the time of the offensive entry into Nanking, strictly ordered all the troops that 'the whole world would pay attention to Japan's entry to the capital of a foreign country, which had never been experienced ever since,' so that looting or accidental fire would be severely punished.

  • @kaito8209

guess ya cant stand the humiliation when facing the truth huh?

Since ya Japanese cant even face your own crime, I am pretty sure Japanese will try massacres again soon.

  • @wwlus Yes of course and you are quite stupid not to recknognise the difference between Imperialism and what Japan is today fucking idiot...

  • @kaito8209

The Japanese military in WW2 also helped a lot of people in Nanking...

Not to mention helping in hospitals in Hongkong (where invading Japanese soldiers massacred the staff and patients) Or perhaps you think that's a lie too?

  • @redcardinalist

(Part3) and joint anti-communism and economic cooperation among Japan, Manchuria, and China.

Then in December came Konoe’s third declaration. This was a call for “neighborly friendship, anti-Communist cooperation, and economic cooperation.” There is nothing in any of these indicating aggressive intentions toward, or designs on ruling, China. The Second Sino–Japanese War was a conflict caused by China.

  • @lavenderblossom

(Part1)Another example, the 1938 Yellow River flood was a flood created by the Nationalist Government in central China during the early stage of the Second Sino-Japanese War in an attempt to halt the rapid advance of the Japanese forces. As a result, the course of the Yellow River was diverted southwards for nine years afterward, inundating 54,000 km² (21,000 square miles) of local provinces. All in all, the flood waters took an estimated 500,000 lives.

  • @kaito8209

Lol, you just typed in something that I'm not reading! :]]]

  • British, Dutch, french as first world countries then lost their asia colonies within weeks of japans attack, while China as third world country with no single battleship, submarine and aircraft carrier, survive 13 years of onslaugth from the fascist japs!

  • serve the British and the european right! when Japs attacked China 1931, British GOV collaborated withe the Japs to ban the shipment of goods to China through HKG, oppressed any anti-Japs demo/groups in HKG and S'pore. Three days before the british surrended S'pore then did they hand over rifles and eight rounds each to each untrained Chinese resistance despite the local had repeatedly asked for it for long time.

  • i like this part when he says it was a joke

  • nice quality . . you should upload the whole movie of this. .

  • MUM! MUMMY! MUMMY!

My heart goes out to this boy. Many a time, my worst fear as a child was losing my parents. That fear can only be matched by the fear of losing your *own child when you're older.

  • Children!!!! why prefer toys in such a time... it is normal, I think... poor kid.

  • Children's minds seem to not grasp at that age the severity of warfare at first. That comes later and very soon!

  • I hated to see that tank crush that old yellow car. I hope the black Packard was spared.

  • somebody please post full this movie...

    please....

  • Great scene, thanks for posting.

  • chinese pistol, the broom handle lol

wow... i WANNA get this movie somehow...

  • I would be terrified if something like that happened where I live. I think I'd go in the opposite direction to where everyone else was going.

Poor little Davey standing up there screaming for his mom. Geeze.

  • oh my god, little Christian Bale is such a cutie!

  • Actually, Japan attacked China in 1937. Not 12/8/41. Enjoyed the video. Thanks

  • Yes,but Japan's first Attack on the British and the european allies was on 12/8/41

  • Japan attacked Shanghai back in 1932, but only the Chinese City, it didn't touch the British, French and International Concessions in Shanghai. But when Japan attacked Pearl Harbour on Dec 8th(Shanghai Time) 1941, Japanese Troops marched into the International, British and French Concessions.

  • yeah but wut happen to the international settlement after the japanese were defeated

  • (Part Ⅱ)Japan organized the Shanghai Expeditionary Forces, and deployed them to Shanghai. By that time, Japan had abandoned the existing non-expansion policy. Chiang Kai-shek was successful in luring the Japanese Army into Shanghai, where the Chinese units, well trained by the cooperation of German military advisors, were stationed. (The second Shanghai Incident).

  • @YotJoey

(PartⅠ)Chinese government was building up their troops in great number in Shanghai. During that time, there were a large number of Japanese residents. To defend them, there was only one defending unit consisting of 4,000 combatants. To the Japanese unit, the KMT sent a numerically far superior number of troops consisting of thirty divisions on August 13.

  • hard to believe that little boy is batman. i love him.

  • Ok movie. I just wathced because Miranda Richardson is in it. Love her! It was a bit long, but pretty good.

  • maybe this is a stupid question but did jamies parents get put into a camp as well or did they escape?

  • No they parents were never at the camp. Never sure what happened to the parents but there reunited at the end.

  • yes i know they weren't at the same camp as jamie but what about another one? im pretty sure they were in another camp in the book, so thats why im wondering, and also basie said in the movie that he believed jims parents got themselves picked up with all the other parents or something along those lines.

  • they escaped, would you be able to upload the nuclear bomb scene, most harrowing anti war scene ever, when i seen it as a child i found it very powerful, thanks

  • i fell in love with christian bale after this movie.. he did an amazing job being so young...

  • So that is what seperated Japan & England?

  • this movie is the best

  • Christian looks so young and cute.

  • i hardly remember anything of this film other than it strike me in 1990. However, somehow this film touched me deeply.

  • The directing was fantastic!

  • if this movie doesn't bring a tear or some sort of emotion out of a person then well they have no heart

  • This has been one of my favorites since I was 9

    great scene

  • I agree, Hirohito & Tojo were some of the great monsters of the 20th century, supeseded only by Stalin and Hitler.

  • My fav movie ever.

  • this is one the most astonishing book to movie adaptations i've ever seeen WOW! christian bale holds the most compelling child performance of all time

  • The Japanese stepped on the Chinese with honor and ease. To Hideki Tojo cheers!

  • and raped over 100,000 woman civilians and tortured millions.

Yeah, cheers to Tojo you ass.

  • But also managed to inadvertantly crush chinese right wing nationalism, so he wasn't all bad, even if he didn't mean it.

  • Chiang Kai Shek was no saint, but he certainly wasn't worse than Mao.

  • His son got training in nazi germany, he even particapated in the invasion of poland as leutenent

  • Whose son? I'm not sure who your comment refers to?

  • The one of chang kai-shek

  • Ah. Didn't know that.

  • How does the fact that his son was connected with the Nazis in some way make Chiang Kei Shek himself comparable to Mao? That is just ridiculous.

  • Altho, Chiang did let his people live in poverty & starvation while he conducted an obsessive search for Mao all thru China... nope, he wun't any sorta saint.

  • I never knew making parents have sex with their children, having decapitation competitions, and bayonet practicing on tied up people would be honorable.

I mean, call me old fashion, I thought fighting for honor was fighting for the basis of terms not meant for imperialism.

  • Right you are mate!

  • Executing prisoners-of-war in their thousands is not "fighting with honor".

  • In their culture, it is. Culture of Bishido... fight to the death without surrended. You surrender, you were no more but a sub-human without honor.

  • in goverment revised version of bushido.

Durring WW1 german POW where treated with care.

But the japanese military junta could not very well treat their soldiers like shit and then expect them to treat others like human beings.

  • already knew that cadet

  • yeah I expectet that, but some maight not know.

  • @C

(Part4)Furthermore, the representatives of the refugee camps of nineteen places established in the Safety Zone were all the Chinese, except Miss Minnie Vautrin.

Though those Chinese took charge of the maintenance of public order in these camps, there were some Chinese officers who camouflaged themselves as if they were citizens. And many cases of rape occurred in the 'refugee camps' set up by the Safety Zone Committee. After February 1938 when the 'camps' were dissolved, rape was RARE.

  • (Part3) The third instance was that Chinese, who lay hidden in the Safety Zone, camouflaged themselves to create the impression that looting and rapes had been committed by Japanese soldiers, to practice one of a series of Chinese strategies for the purpose of throwing Japanese soldiers into confusion.

  • @CLGartman

(Part2)The second instance was the confusion of taking CHINESE soldies for Japanese soldiers.

How could Bates conclude that the criminals were Japanese military polices disguised as Chinese without seeing them? He merely accepted without the slightest suspicion the testimony given by a Chinese who called himself an eyewitness.

  • @CLGartman

    《The truth of the rapes-Part2》

(Part1)The first instance of misunderstandings was for the committee to take recruitment for PROSTITUTES for rapes.

Bates and his colleagues misidentified the recruit of prostitutes by common consent as if it was a systematic rape by Japanese troops. (In fact, the Chinese traders concerned recruited prostitutes and managed comport houses on a commercial basis, and the Japanese Army admitted to support their business.)

  • @CLGartman

We have received a counterargument about the 23% of pregnancy rate from Chinese people. They said Japanese soldiers must have killed Chinese ladies after the Japanese raped women, so there were no babies. However, the statistics which were presented by Chinese government show where the corpses were found and buried. Only about 2,800 corpses are found inside Nanking castle, and the rest are recovered outside, which were almost 40,000. There are few corpses of women and children.

  • @CLGartman

(Part1)Here is a data of The Rape of Berlin, which was happened in the summer of 1945, Soviet soldiers caught many German women for raping, and massacred so many German civilians. The pregnancy rate of The Rape of Berlin was 23%. And then Chinese government has been accusing 20,000 to 80,000 of Chinese women were raped by Japanese soldiers.

  • Why is it that the Japanese are always depicted as the bad guys? Oh, I know because they thought it was ok to commit war crimes. WELL THEY MESSED UP.

  • The Japanese takeover if eastern China, a historical fact during World War 2.

  • since 1931

  • hey, are u from Chile?

  • Yes, I`m already located in Valparaiso... what about you?
