hmmm not exactly solos, more riffs or flourishes. Not quite as inspired as Honeyman Scott on early pretenders stuff - solo on Kid is mindly blowingly good.
@edwardpeach On the whole no but try 6.05 - 6.45, We are the pigs. Most definatley a solo. Not as in the playing of lots of notes but as in the bursting release of emotions and telling of a whole story through music
Both of those guitarists play with their brains and practice. Bernard plays straight from the heart to the guitar. Marr is a very intellectual and technical player and Squire started out greater as an amature than as a pro because all he listened and played to were Hendrix albums in the years he was sequestered in Wales years. Surprise! he came out sounding like a Hendrix wannabe...
Nothing against him mind you. I enjoy listening to him. But Bernard Butler Plays so viscerally. And every riff he does is a melody of it's one that perfectly counters what the rest of the music does. Bernard has the rarest of musical gifts, while not a technically perfect guitarist very very few can come close to matching his inventiveness.
Brett`s sound and Butler`s guiltar is the best match. Their predestined knot 「The Tears」 bring we back to year of 「Suede」 and 「Dog Man Star」I feel like teenage again.
hard to pick a favourite the impact of animal nitrate and its in yer face guitars does it for me pity he's producing these days instead of ripping it up with brett and the boys a suede reunion would be nice!
Yeah, Dark Star made the list. Man, that's my favorite Suede song. I'm a huge Butler fan. Great guitar playing. I know nothing of Marr's style, so I can't compare the two guitarists.
Some solo stuff has been overlooked, but does anyone else here like the solo form "Has Your Mind Got Away" from his second album. I'd have that on my list.
There are many great guitar players but Johnny Marr is definitely one of the unique ones with his beautiful melodic guitar playing....and Bernard's biggest influence!!
Nice idea, i quite like This Hollywood Life and the live version of Moving from Love and Poison. I would have put animal nitrate higher up, its quite an aggresive solo, its one to dance to aswell. Animal Lover is a classic, its good to see a song from The Tears on the list.
New Genration for me. It's one of those solos that wasn't put there for the sake of it, it kinda means something that words can't artciulate. Happiness and looking foward to things. I'm shite at explaining it.
Fave solos from throughout BB's career, in no particular order: 1. He's Dead 2. This Hollywood Life 3. Killing of a Flash Boy 4. You Do 5. You Just Know 6. Autograph 7. I'd Do It Again If I Could 8. Cocoon 9. Rockferry
I agree with these 9 brilliant ones, but 9 quota is not enough for Bernard's guitar solos... 'Be My God', 'Metal Mickey', the long version 'Stay Together', 'You Do' adn 'Beat' from McAlmont & Butler , 'Autograph' from his solo album People Move On
probs one of the best guitarists of the 90's near definatly top ten, behind people who will always be legends like Jonny Greenwood, but hes definate in the top ten, shame he left to be hpnest having said that ive only heard three or four songs just getting into them.
The interesting thing for me is that some of BB's work (ie, He's Dead and Animal Nitrate) sound better live than the recorded versions.

the final solo on "so young" it's amazing too!

his solo is like when you take morphine too much and you play the guitar and record it for the whole days.. thats how it sounds.

I love Suede but The Asphalt World Solo is a direct copy of /watch?v=y1IrBvtBkRc
it's virtually the same... listen from the first minute until one minute and fifty seconds on the original.. a shame

I'm not criticising the content of this list but just wondered why you chose a top 9 and not top 10? Hell with BB you could of had a top 50!
richj683 2 years ago 4
Because of time limit - 10 min max. :(

What about his BLAZING solo and outro solo on Neneh Cherry's "Woman"?? He rips it to shreds on that tune.
