There are a lot of great bloggers on youtube who have ideas and opinions and talk about their lives. It is unfortunate that the media will focus on someone like Chris Crocker when there are so many other bloggers out there who talk about more interesting and important things.

V-logging doesn't have to necessarily make you famous, as long as you enjoy making the videos and at least a few other people enjoy them. some people probably feel better after watching these videos, because they can hear about someone else's thoughts, or how their day went, so I think that no matter how famous or how many people recognize you, your videos really make a difference, which I think is something to be proud of

Hard to tell what will become of the public television movement within youtube. Google is clearly concerned about getting more eye-balls and are probably concerned about new business (videos) going to iTunes. As with the internet, youtube probably will not devolve into a single 'consumer' oriented medium. My vote is for a combination of social networking, opinion pieces, entertainment, and misc. advertisements.
You're quite right, a few well-publicized weirdos can cause outsiders to consider us all weirdos. There is certainly a bizarre assortment of people out there in the "real" world and as they say, there's nout queer as folk, yet there's such a stigma of internet denizens, that we're somehow a concentration and synthesis of weirdness.

BUT everybody who doesn't know yt by now, will never take the time to get to know it really. The peak is stridden.

I've just started watching your vids but I have to say you hit the nail on the head with this one. I wasn't even sure what the source of my discomfort around this guy was until I realized that YEAH I don't want what I and most of us do lumped together with his, er...output, as it were.

I got the wrong end of the stick. Comments are too short to properly elucidate a subject here on YouTube. Possibly sometimes to the point of abruptness and ambiguity, at the detriment of understanding.

Klaxon was complaining about YouTube comment section being unstable, as it usually is.
I asked for the source code to the comment servlet (joking of course, because they'd never do it) and said we'd fix the thing ourselves.
I'm a software developer, not a lawyer... and I very much doubt that Paperlilies is guilty of any kind of fraud, tax or otherwise. Before you can cheat on your taxes, you need to have taxable income, and she only got a job just a week ago.

This has to be the BEST response to the Chris Crocker suitation I have seen. You didn't mock him and you finally said it straight as to what others are feeling. My theory is this: the media companies DON'T LIKE YOUTUBE, this site is cutting into their profits, and is a threat to their existence. So putting someone like that out helps them.

But not once response from her to anyone...My thoughts?...If you want people to watch them be kind and have at least 2 or 3 yellow lines at some point, showing that the viewer matters. I don't "get" this Chris Rocker (or whatever he's called) thing. I've not seen ANY of his videos (although I presume the thumbnails on the "currently being watched" bit of someone looking like they're crying is him?) and really have NO opinion about the whole thing at all, so I'd not say that "everyone is up in arms". It seems the whole thing is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy with only others talking about it, making the "story" anything at all.

With reality t.v. and such shows as the Apprentice, Survivor,and Big Brother, they are looking for the worst that people can be. Hard to tell what will become of the public television movement within youtube. Google is clearly concerned about getting more eye-balls and are probably concerned about new business (videos) going to iTunes. As with the internet, youtube probably will not devolve into a single 'consumer' oriented medium. My vote is for a combination of social networking, opinion pieces, entertainment, and misc. advertisements.

I have the impression this Crocker thing is a publicity stunt, that it was coordinated/ planned as such from the very beginning. And, not to be judgmental, but Chris Crocker seems like a flamer, I wouldn't be surprised the producers are also gay.

I'm happy for him, but I really hope ppl don't start associating the whole of YouTube with him. Those who have never heard of YouTube and see him might never come here bcuz of that.

Sounds like you are right on it about how to feel about it. BIG QUESTION MARK! Thats how I feel too. Do wish it could be someone less outrageous. Paperlilies. Thehill88. I DEFINITELY WISH it was Michael Buckley. Even Brookers makes more sense. It may be mainstream medias' way of ridiculing that YouTube isn't relevant (not true!) and only wackos do it (also not true!)

Ah, yes. Retarded by association. It is something that I have had concern about. I'm not hugely popular, but when I'm walking around with a camera, and poeple are all, "What are you doing?", it kind of bothers me that when I tell them, they will immediately wonder if I'm gay, or emo or some other Chris Crocker attribute. But, at the same time, he has the right to act like he does. It's a dichotomy of conflicting stances. Oh well.
