Hey Steve, thanks for your video blogs, but I'm still left in a confused state, Im considering getting a Blackberry Curve(8300, no Wifi) but Im also now thinking the E61i might also be a contender. For me price is very much a factor.
I mainly getting a smartphone for multimedia, E-mail, and internet. I wouldn't mind a phone that also offers E-Book services too.
In your opinion, what would you reccomend, Im open to other phones, as long as its not pricey. The N95 goe over budget for me. Thanks
I`m form Buenos Aires, Argentina. I don`t know if buy one Blackberry 8320 or Nokia E61i, I read about the E71, but it not arrive on June in Argentina. What`s your opinion ?
My principal email account is over exchange and I don`t understand how work BB Connect under Nokia.
Hi stevy, I like your reviews. you give us really nice informission about cell phones can you please tell me which phone do you use personally? I'm just kind of confused with a Nokia E61 i?
thanks alot steve one thing more i am gona ask you= does nokia E61i has Tom Tom or we need to buy it or download it from webside let me know please steve... thanks.
wow... what a good review. most reviews that i have seen are so biased.. either by apple lover or a nokia fan boy... THANK YOU. keep it up. your work is much appreciated.
You're right that it's a hack. And one which will get closed off by Apple at every turn, which is why I'm not going to confuse new smartphone users with it 8-0
Oh, the E61i would win in terms of battery life in the real world, but then the devices have different use cases, so perhaps that's not fair. Both are pretty good on batteries, but of course the iPhone's isn't user-replaceable.
Thank you so much for this well rounded review on smart phones. I am tired of seeing all the other reviews where the reviewer simply disregards everything else in favor for "ZOMG apple made a phone!!! Instant win knock out!"
hey man tell me one thing... for rush on the daily basis, you think it's best having an iPhone or a Nokia E61i??? Is nokia's E61i processor slow compared to iPhone?? Or even compared to iPaqs??? How about the GPS on Nokia?? If u get a TOMTOM does it get slow??? I wanna buy one of these but I have a HUUUGE doubt... cuz they have almost the same price!
The E61i is a little slow for some operations, but I'd still rather have it than an iPhone, since I do a lot of text entry every day. And it supports a Bluetooth GPS, unlike the iPhone.
iphone is like new future phone, But i stay with the easy phone NOKIA. im not saying iphone is hard to use, but i like nokia.. easy to use/cheap/nice design etc..
i have n93-1 and its doing almost all the things what iphone does right now.. n93-1 even doing more like a voice commands, video record etc. :) iphone design is best of all phones what i was ever seen.
So thats why the iphone is only available in the US. In Africa here it would be considered junk, cos nokia & SE are obviously stronger competitors. Please Steve can u do a review of the p1i coming out this month. thanks, a big fan
A great set of reviews as always Steve- many thanks.
However, this show just highlights for me the fact that there is still no single convergence device that is able to play media, surf the net, take photos, allow customisation and make phone calls as well as any standalone dedicated device- not even the overhyped iphone.
A cheap pocket calculator is much easier to use than any phone's calculator application, but do you really want to carry a separate calculator with you? Probably not, because the phone calculator is good enough.
No converged device will EVER do ANYTHING as well as a dedicated device. The point of convergence isn't to do things better than separates, the point is to do things in a good enough way. It means you can carry one device with you instead of ten or twenty separate devices.
Steve, You are so biased towards Nokia and European phone-makers, that it is a shame. You padded the nokia with more points than a king size mattress. What about the fact that this is Apples 1st phone compared to Nokias 30-40th, or more. Also your own video shows you typing faster on the Iphone than you did on the Nokia, explain that.
This is a worldwide show, with Europe and Asia being by far the largest market. I don't usually comment too much on proprietary USA-internal devices, but the iPhone was a special case. And the typing thing was artificial in that I had to operate each device at a 45 degree angle so that the camera could film me doing it. YOU try typing on a qwerty keyboard at that angle!!!!!
I like your reviews - they're one of bests in the web. Are You, maybe, goin' to make soon a review of nokia 6120 classic or 5700? I am studying at university and I don't have money to buy anything fancier than those two [n93 is far beyond my wildest dreams;)]
so I beg of You Steve - think about reviews of those great smartphones :D.
Both 2 megapixel cameras and pretty good, considering fixed focus etc. And yes, every phone is hard to use after the iPhone. But the iPhone's functionality has a way to go before it can match current smartphones. So swings and roundabouts!!
thanks steve..i'm italian and tomorrow i'm going to buy the e61i..
ciao

sorry about adding a third comment (couldnt fit first two in one), but i saw your reply about bluetooth gps.
The iphones newest firware (1.1.3) was leaked and you will be able to pinpoint your location with the use of the phone towers nearby.
bob1771 4 years ago
Yes, but that only gives position to within 1km or so. Hardly GPS quality!
stevelitchfield 4 years ago
after looking at another video about the new firmware, i noticed the large range, it is true that it is hardly a gps!
bob1771 4 years ago 2
i dont know) but incorporating third party apps would be considered a hack.
Some great third party apps can be found and easily downloaded after "installer" is downloaded and installed, some apps include:
camera pro (extends the cameras functions)
many games, psx, gba and nes emulators, chat clients, internet radio clients
otherwise great reviews! Very complete, well backed up with information!

stevelitchfield 4 years ago
just to let people know, there is a way to get many third party apps onto the iphone and the camera can take videos (why apple didnt implement this?

Shouldn't do. Sat-nav packages work pretty well on the E61i.

nokia E61 is the best!
iPhone is not good to use on rush...
sony ericsson... not made for this matters! not this one shown at the video

er.... you can't install ANY programs on it. Not legally, anyway.

Nokia is ahead of the competition so far. They have all kinds of smartphones to suit the needs of specific individuals:
N95 - all-in-one
N91 8GB - music
N93 - video
N77 - TV
E90 - business

Excellent review Steve. I like the look of the iPhone, but lack of third party apps kills it dead for me.
I was also surprised to see that it had no video recording - your is the first review I have read to actually point this out!

I think ill give up waiting and just buy an archos 605 wifi for web and media and a nokia n73 for phone/photos/applications.
Although it will be interesting to see how the SE w960 compares...
