  • I strongly feel, this will be the case for me when I go. Have all arranged, no announcement, nothing - will be gone, but unlike those I love, will be forgotten

  • "Critics mentionned him as "mythical songwrighter, but doubted singer"."

well, maybe one dude said that.

  • amazing....

  • i told myself it sounded gay at the start , so Id give it 1:00 in . I listened to the whole song

  • @ThatGuyWithThoseGuns

lol, you know the song is only 1:42

  • i love the over sentiment, melo dramatic f-tards, Holy crap...i guess people are just dim, i got a friend like this though so i guess i understand his music a bit better.

  • I just bought his last record, "bad as me". Critics mentionned him as "mythical songwrighter, but doubted singer". I don't agree, Tom's magic also passes through that stoned medieval cryptic voice, which can only bring us to the perfection of THE feeling of music.

You are one of the greatest still alive Tom, and you did not stole your place.

  • This it's the first time I cry since I was like 10 and this it's the first time I cried with a song, fuck, Tom, you're one hell of a singer

  • kostas xatzis

  • Thank you Jon Lajoie, that you helped me to discover this wonderful singer...

  • This is definitely the next album I need

  • 6 MOTHERFUCKERS THAT DISLIKED THIS, DESERVE TO DIE

  • @tagvendorfi Think maybe you are over-reacting just a bit. Maybe you need some perspective on life in the real world. It's just a song.

  • "I think the slain care little if they sleep or rise again."

    -Aeschylus

  • perfect song from amazing album!

  • i wish this was a longer song

  • @XtremeSOB That's what reply is for. You can always rinse and repeat!

  • wonderful song from a beautiful album

  • The guy is an artist. Instramental included.

  • @PICOxARONIKxUNION it's called "what a wonderful world" and only because louis has a voice that is kinda similar to tom's it doesn't mean these two songs sound the same.

  • I wish it was longer so i dont have to keep replaying it

  • i wish this song never ends, thumbs up if u'r agree ;)

  • "and I can bathe here in his light. . ." I've always wondered about that word "his". God? the moon?

  • dam.... listening Tom Waits for decades and still amazed by what he achieves on his melodies...

  • Rips my heart out every time I listen to it.

  • I introduced a dear, darling friend to Waits' music not long ago. He sent me this song last night :-)

He's become a fan and I had never heard this one. It is so beautiful. One of those pieces words cannot describe.

  • OMFG ! Sorry for my french but this vid allmost have 1-200 vote ratio.

This is the highest i seen so far !

And fair, very good soong !§

  • hell above and heaven below all the trees are gone the rain makes such a lovely sound to those who're six feet underground the leaves will bury every year and no one knows I'm gone leave me golden tell me dark hide from Graveyard John the moon is full here every night and I can bathe here in his light the leaves will bury every year and no one knows I'm gone
  • Okay. So far every song I've listened to Tom Waits has been amazing. I have -never- listened to a musician or band that has entrapped me so in -every single song-.

  • Wow, il a une voix de Père Noël. :O

    :ferme ta gueule:

  • "and no one knows i'm gone..."

fuck... i think this is one of the best songs i've ever heard !!

  • The moon is full here every night

And I can bathe here in his light

The leaves will bury every year

And no one knows I'm gone

If you can come up with such touching poetry than you are a true minstrel.

  • This song reflects my current emotional state. Bereft.

  • This song fits my existense pretty well, im gone. But no one knows, besides you reading this right now perhaps, hehe...

  • Tom Waits is the VanGogh of blues

  • Please believe me who nice it is. i like it so much.

  • Tom Waits is a real nigga

  • @TheEZBeatz

    Real talk.

  • listen to Presser Gabor, his voice is almost Tom's

  • oh my god...that was...beautiful :O

  • Brilliant.

  • Oh so sad, but so rich in voice and soulfull in melody...touching the very depth of heart and mind...

  • Great song (one of many by mr. Waits)! I like that the first sentence is upside down: "Hell Above and Heaven below". I especially love the very last chord, perfect ending.

  • A genious !

    A lot of thanks

  • You will always find what you are looking for because music is what you need it to be.

  • This is absolutely Lovely.

  • One of the only songs that's managed to bring tears to my eyes...Thank you Tom.

  • this is genius yet so simple

  • You gotta love the avid fan's pretentious ways. I like the people who try hard to sound non-monolingual by putting a phrase through a free translator so they can look 'cultured.'

  • @Tripo1iSamson hahahahaha

you seem to have found a dictionary, nice for you! ^^

but there are still some of us who arent fluent at english but still try to express themselves! ;)

  • @TheZINKable Wow what a pretentious asshole.

  • @Tripo1iSamson Non-monoligual? That's an 'impressive' way of expressing yourself poorly

  • Constipation man

  • I really love Tom Waits !!!

His voice is for me or "mine" !!

J'adore sa voix gutturale, caverneuse à souhait, rauque... , façon fumeur de Havanes !

Beautiful son and WONDERFUL VOICE !

    Que d'émotions pures

    SMILE

  • This song just brought a tear to my eye. Tom Waits is amazing not for his voice but for his songs. We need more people like him in this world.

  • sleep well my friends

  • The problem with Tom Waits is that there's no one else like him. I want to hear more.

  • "The rain makes such a lovely sound

To those who are six feet under ground"

Man.. such a "FOREVERWIN" god damn epic fucking phrase.

    TOM WAITS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the Song I want for my last hour ...

  • The facts of death.....

    Such a lovely song...

  • I wish this song lasted longer ....

  • bellissima

  • R.I.P Cory Russell calgary alberta.

I can't believe its been a week, You have a place in our hearts forever and thats where you will stay.

    miss you bud.

  • his songs reach me on a really fundamental level..they make me cry and I don't even know why I'm crying!! It's strange but very beautiful

  • Hi, listen to 'Once in Royal Davids city' and the line " mary was the mother mild" has the same sound as 'the moon is full here every night. I agree it has a sort of baroque ? sound. If you sing it in a high voice it does sound even more like the old English style.

  • first time i heard this song i thought it was a cover...

it seemed to me like an old medieval english song..

    so simple, so "holy".

it seemed to me something made by god.

than i saw it was made by Tom and i understand is the same, i was right.

  • @RippoTheWane

    That was so chessy.

  • @RippoTheWane ...douche

  • @RippoTheWane holy????? XD Tom is way to sinister for that! But that is in my eyes one of the things that makes him awesome, he doesn't care a shit.

  • @wertyhDA to make music like he does, write lyrics like his (that pointedly illustrate a strong "don't care a shit"), you have to care a f*in lot.

  • Absolutely breathtaking!

  • wow.

  • I really feel fortunate to have lived in a time which coincided with the lifetime of Mr Waits and to have seen him play live on two occasions. The Man is a genius and a wordsmith of epic proportions.

  • Could not have said it better myself!

  • "Careful with that axe Stewie" was my first thought. But then, you saw him TWICE, you are a "Fortunate Son".

  • one of my favourite songs...

make me think about my life and those who i love every time i'm listening it...

    perfect diamond

  • The author of this music is difficult to name just a musician, is a world that makes your heart beat in time with his talent.

  • Agree, it is refreshing to listen to an artist that seems to speak out your own feelings.

  • If you said a talented artist, his language is understandable to all. Words mean little. There is a genuine human value: to be in harmony with the world that surrounds you. Talent leads the world in harmony. Talent leads a person to harmony, including myself, that's the most valuable. Thank you for your comment.

  • Thank you for your comment, I did not immediately able to read the whole thing. Translation of the meaning of the pledged author threw me into an aesthetic shock. Yes Tom is simply a genius. I listen to his music for many years, the words do not understand, I do not know English, but as it turned out, I knew and felt right. Although of course. You gave me prazdnik.Spasibo.

  • I sympathize with you, when I first heard Tom Waits I understood very little English but I also "felt right". Try to find a good interpreter of his lyrics, it is worth, trust me. Find a good Russian to English translator and plunge into the world of Tom Waits. After all, it is our world too. I want to also remind you that he owes a lot to his wife, Kathleen Brennan, she kept him afloat. I also admire your passion for Tom Waits, you've posted a lot!

  • Thank you, I am very touched by your response. My passion for Tom Waits is not a fan's passion. It's a part of me, taken without a word, at the level of the genetic code. This, when not through the head and once in the heart. To me there is not bigotry, and entrancement this astonishing world on behalf of Tom. Hopefully with time I will be able to touch the poetry of the author. And the fact that his amazing talent and is accompanied by a sharpened loving talented woman, it's happiness and succe

  • I think he deserves this happiness. Yes, and we too! When you talk with musicians about music, they dismember her, and very often try on and measure with them. It is interesting, because you learn a lot about a person. But it gives no knowledge of the essence. I am interested to know and who is your profession? You have a very subtle and balanced assessment of the phenomenon by the name of Tom Waits.

  • I don't like his deep growly sorta voice. Still a really good song though.

  • fuckin ace man.. "The rain makes such a lovely sound

To those who are six feet under ground" = epic sentence

  • @AnalTumor It's a direct quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem Renascence.

  • @AnalTumor

That's from Edna St. Vincent Millay's "Renascence": "For rain it hath a friendly sound to one who's six feet underground". I suppose so, anyway. cheers
