Why ZIdane is better than Messi. Zidane can single handedly change the tempo and complexion of a match with his midfield play ball possession and passing. Zidane inspires his teammates. Messi very good driblling scores lots of goals with the help of Xavi and Iniesta but not inspirational, just watch any argentina matches.
He's definitely my favourite player and I consider him since I got to watch football ( approximately 1997-8). Factors which I admire about him the most are:
- operating the ball with both legs
- not falling after every touch from the opponent, I mean no foul-forcing
- justice, I mean he was fair and kind to opponents, however, when they started to mess with him he didn't hesitate to answer back
I also always try to execute these thing in my gameplay, that's why I respect Zizou so much.

While somebody with Messi´s style who is all about speed and physical strength starts to fades early, as we have seen in Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. The reason is as you said because Zidanes talent relies in his mind and thinking, more than in actual speed. His reaction and reflexes are the best ever, and no one will ever come close.

He is a natural dribbler, but he never dribbles just for the sake of it, he always does it with the aim of scoring or creating a chance for a team mate. Because of all those great play that did not necessarly ended up with goals that were left forgotten... His goals you can find easily. very true, if you look at giggs, scholes, del piero or maldini they all played at a high level for years because they are intelligent and good all round footballers. I still think messi will adapt better with age than ronaldo when his electric pace goes. Good examples of players that have not adapted well are kaka and michael owen

I think messi is a very good all round footballer, he doesn't depend on his pace, he makes as many goals as he scores with his passing and link play. If messi wants to be in zidanes league when he retires he needs to deliver for argentina. To be honest he could be the greatest if he does that.

@okocha87 I would still give some time to a few players... Messi is only 23! Zidane was not that established yet at that age. I think what is different is that most of great player now use speed to surprise oposant. With Zidane it was something else. Hard to identify what is was... Maybe in the speed of thinking more that the speed of moving!

@beplasse .....first of all thanks for the video its really great .....Zidane had more flair and elegance than any player ... just like michael laudrop , cruyff , xavi and platini ....i think CR9 is not a great player all he can do is score goals and run fast ...but he have no vision at all and he cant pass the ball ...rooney and Kaka the same ....we shouldn't call them great they r just good players ....Messi is really great player who will be remembered for ever in History + Ronaldo ( Brazil )

@insh27 you now why I think that messi can't reach a higher level. because there is now higher level for this kind of players. messi is different from others I agree. but th one differents is messi is all about speed great technique not like cr. ronaldo. but real technique that helps him be so dangerous. but after I while his reaction his speed will be vanish little by little and and physcly he will be beaten after a while. what zidane had was pure skill reaction vision he saw the game different

@beplasse It is true about Zidane wasnt as succesfull as Messi when he was 23. But players like Zidane improves all the time, and he seemed to get better with age. While somebody with Messi´s style who is all about speed and physical strength starts to fades early, as we have seen in Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. The reason is as you said because Zidanes talent relies in his mind and thinking, more than in actual speed. His reaction and reflexes are the best ever, and no one will ever come close.

@beplasse He had lots of technique. If you compare him to Messi, he will lose at speed, but he's more technical and that's why his passing, shotting, ball control, and first touching were legendary. I am from Brazil, but I am pretty sure that Zidane alongside with Ronaldo, are at least one of the top 15 soccer players of all time.

That is an excellent post, and I agree with all of it APART from pairing messi with CRonaldo. I think you are being very harsh on messi calling him a show-off. He is a natural dribbler, but he never dribbles just for the sake of it, he always does it with the aim of scoring or creating a chance for a team mate. Whereas CRonaldo of course is a prancing, showboating, egotistical dick who almost always dribbles with the aim of looking good rather than to help the team. Do you agree?

@lockdias Intouchable et immortels. Zidane était formidable. Je crois même que les forces qu'il avait, et bien il les a encore! Pour l'avoir vu jouer quelques matches de charités depuis 4 ans, il aurait encore bien eu sa place avec l'équipe de France... Mais ça n'a même pas été mentionné! Zidane avait des grandes qualités de footballer, mais je pense que ce sont d'autres qualités qui lui ont fait connaitre ce succès...

Because of all those great play that did not necessarly ended up with goals that were left forgotten... His goals you can find easily. All his goals (witch are almost ALLamasing) are even in a few clips...

good video but for me it doesnt oppitomise what zidane was about... if i showed this video to a new born they would think that he was just a guy who show boated without end product.
too much of his skills becomes sickly and it overides what zidane actually did on the field.... just a clip of him being sick against england and then scoring a ridiculous freekick would suffice.

@Garcian this video shows the essence of zidane, how unselfish he was, how genius his touch was, how difficult things he tryed and made them just perfect, how much he can see on the field, you can see that he always knows what to do with ball before he gets it, there are othe clips showing his goals which by the way are the best of the best(remember season in rm when more goals scored with his left foot)!!

nah u cant compare him to others, hes unique, i aint much of a fan but i think that all the others stars and legends have their level of comparison, what zidane does is reinventing football. Youre gonna see his style being aplied for centuries now. Hes the michael jackson of football :)

today i read an article in the paper saying football when played at a certain level becomes art because it is so enjoyable to look at and observe. well if thats the case zidane is picasso, van gogh and da vinci combined. he had the greatest touch and footballing brain ever aswell as the abilty to floor a man with a headbutt to the chest lol.
