I've played IL-2 Sturmovik and Cliffs of Dover and Cliffs of Dover is more arcadey, even with Simulator settings, compared to the original.

Realistic combat flight sims are allways buggy at first but even with that this is the most realistic ww2 sim ever created and a lot of fun to play...there is not hardware that can max it out on the market(like several other recent games) but if you are serious about your pc performance theres not a problem at all

well, horses for courses and all that. but i sometimes like to go through a full take-off procedure...adds to the sense of realism :-) and running-out of ammo is also an important part of realism. conserving your ammo and thinking carefully before firing - having to think before you fire is also part of the game in real flight sims.

but, depends what you want from a game i guess. i play Falcon 4.0, so my flying is as real as it gets on a PC

@MustNotRead I play Falcon 4 as well. I wish we could get more updated graphics and blocks. Funny story: I jumped into the cockpit mid-flight with a 9 year old. Less than ten minutes later, he'd managed to dump the fuel tanks, turn off the oxygen in the cockpit and hit the afterburner just before we smashed into Mt. Mudeungsan.

Realistic flight controls: Not for kids :)

I agree with the recoil and especially the gun sounds.. and last, I wouldn't go to say this is an arcade game. It's still extremely realistic and would move more towards a simulator. But 1946 does seem more accurate.

Hope they fix these and add more realism in the game with patches.

@Metalicalypse .....Aces High has been around before both and to this day, tromps them. Out of the dozens of flight games and simulators I've played, Aces High 2 has the absolute most realistic flight model.

Not to mention having 800 people in an arena on a HUGE map fighting a war is great. Hell you've even got tanks, carriers, cruisers, jeeps, halftracks, all that good stuff.

@Metalicalypse Let me explain this in another way: AH2 beats IL in realism not in LOOKS (Because the way it looks is totally what makes it "realistic"), out of all the flight sims/games I've played (other than MSX), AH2 has the most accurate flight model.

That's why AH2 is called an "Air combat SIMULATOR" while IL2 is a "GAME". Two different worlds. It's like saying "World of Tanks" is a top of the line tanking simulator and not an arcade shooter.

@hgjkfuk it have, but they are of little use in this sim... :( i wonder if they are modeled in this version. They work like in IL2 and that it's wrong. The real BF109 can deploy the flaps asimetrically.

@sg1gunkan The leading edge slats are designed so that they will deploy when the pressure above the leading edge reduces to the point where it will actually suck the slat forward i.e high angles of attack.. right? They are not powered are they?

@sg1gunkan Messerschmitt does have slats, and they were not supposed to extend asymmetrically, but it would happen occasionally, they are not powered by anything, just held in by the airspeed until the aircraft gets slow enough, then they pop out and increase lift. *Flaps* never extend asymetrically, that would be a great hindrance to flight.

Son útiles los flaps en el 109? En el manual dice que han representado fielmente lo que tardaban en desplegarse (2 minutos para desplegarlos completamente), vale la pena hacerlo durante combate? (sobretodo con la opción de controles antropomórficos esa para usar solo 2 controles a la vez). Ya sé que útil es, pero vale la pena arriesgarse a usarlos.

Mira como saco los flaps del Spiti en plan arcade para frenar el avión... Por supuesto que son útiles los flaps, por eso han puesto esa opción de "dificultad", para que los 109 no tengan la tentación de girar con los Spitis. En la realidad ningun avión (salvo algunos japoneses) podía usar las combat flaps como nosotros.

@Xelethor 2minutos!! joder Joachim Peiper la estrella del desierto, famoso piloto aleman, hacia giros imposibles manipulando los flaps en combates y decian que era un prodigio aunque claro era la version f-2,f-4. 2minutos es demasiado para combates, yo me atreveria a decir que la peña lo hace en algun modo manual ya que tenian motores para accionarlos y no eran por manivelas... ya se vera mas adelante cuando lo tengan en español.
