  • totally dusted them with flour so the batter would stick better

  • @tjdray1

Maybe, "Vegitable leaf" must be something weed growing in the neighborhood.

First of all, though it is not "Vegitable" but "Vegetable".

    -

    たぶん、「Vegitable leaf」は近所に生えている雑草か何かに違いありません。

    そもそも、「Vegitable」ではなく「Vegetable」ですが。

  • Vegitable leaf. Mmmmmm...

  • I must have missed what he said he was dusting the items to be fried with before he put them in the batter. Maybe I was just busy trying not to drool. LOL

  • I thought that I only have to do is to dip the dhrimp into the flour and bread crumbs and fry xD

Im mexican!! i wish you the best

  • Runny!!! Respect to you! From Russian cook)))

  • hey, runny!

    I made your recipe! XD

At first, I forgot that the water should be cold when you pour it into the batter...

But then, I realized that baking powder started to react with the warm water, creating alot of bubbles. T_T

I used that bad batter anyway, and made a new good one, after.

It turned out delicious(mostly with the "good batter") =p

    ご馳走様でした。

    thx, for the recipe!

  • Yum!

  • i know someone name k. mcdowell...

i like the sound when you bite into the food.

  • whats the difference between tempura flour and regular flour?

  • @hanzimaster I think when you actually buy tempura flour/batter, it comes with some kind of leavening agent (baking powder), maybe a preservative to keep the batter long lasting in the box and possibly seasonings (salt). Not entirely sure though LOL. I think if you make the batter yourself it will taste a lot better! I see "All Purpose Flour" being used for a good amount of recipes. I have even see whole wheat flour too! Hope that helps :D

  • @rawkstarr89 Oh and I think the pre-made tempura batter/flour comes with powdered egg which might be where it gets it yellow tint from. :D Hope that helps!

  • Oh man! I'm hungry! D:

  • 10 people failed the tenpura batter....

  • I tried to make this and it tatstes so good :D

  • this guy's so boss

  • i want to eat my screen!!!

  • Thumbs up if you feel like you just watched surgery on shrimp...

  • When you say dust the food your going to fry what did you put on them, What ingredient? I might have missed it. thanks! great video!

  • If you have a hard time saying "paprika", how about "bell peppers" instead? Usually we think of piiman or bell peppers as being green, so generally you will hear people say the color + bell pepper. Tatoeba: ______ bell pepper/ red bell pepper.

  • US cup? I don't see 2/5..i only have 2/4 and 2/3...damn..have to convert..back to elementary school..

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think someone is in love

  • WOW..i love japanese food!!!

  • This worked perfectly, but I was able to add more water. My batter came out much thicker than yours.

  • what is 2/5 cups? is it half a cup?

  • @frenchkitty No it's a little less than half a cup... obviously.

  • what the.. OMG i thought you japanes ppl were eating healthy,

  • Hi runny, I've tried cooking tempura a few times but failed. It turned out oily, soggy and not crispy after short while. Hope you can help. : )

  • @japloverjp Me and my mom cooked tempura last last week. The water you will use should be very, very icy cold. Almost ice. it will make it really crispy and crunchy. cook it to about low to medium heat so it will not be to soggy and oily. Hope I helped. :)

  • @purpleflower255 Thank you

  • hey runny, what are you dusting the food with? Is it flour ?

  • Nice and easy-to-follow. I like the opening too! Different from any other cooking video. Good job!

  • lol "idk how you pronounce.... PAPRIKA!!!"

  • Yolk? Are you sure?

  • you are adorable! hahahaha

  • GOOD:)

  • Papriiica, Paprica, Paprica, I don't know how you pronounce...PAPRICA!

Haha good gracious you are so adorable!! Possibly my favourite youtube video just because of that :)

  • This is the BEST tempura I've ever made or eaten!! The batter is sooo light, unlike some of the thick battered ones at some restaurants. The batter is so thick that customers are fooled to think that the shrimp are huge! Thank you for your delicious recipe. I'm going to try to cook more of your recipes! Btw, I already subscribed!! :)

  • "...some kind of leaf" - classic.

  • You make it differently than I have coked it. When I go to Publix, or the Asian store, they simply have a regular bonito batter. You just heat up the wok and prepare the premade batter, fry it in the oil and you're done.

  • @lateblossom i guess he made it differently for those who dont have access to asian stores. or...this might be a silly assumption but maybe they dont have the bonito batter in japan?

  • @TheAniy21 I have no idea if the bonito batter is typical of the dish but yea, maybe he did make it differently, simply from scratch. Tempura bonito batter can be found in any Asian store at least where I am. But if you couldn't find it, then his way would be the obvious way to make it. I believe the bonito batter to be the genuine taste though because regular flour I don't think has the same effect in taste.

  • It seems to taste very delicious!

  • I had tempura for lunch yesterday. Oishi desu!!!

  • of dear...you make me want to eat tempura...so bad

  • I love these lessons.. good job. One silly question... isn't there a bit in the middle of the shrimp - effectively the gut - a sort of dark string that should be removed first? Not sure... but I though I recall seeing that this need be removed, or am I mixing this up with another sort of shrimp??

  • @trident3b I think what youre talking about is the vein. He shows you how to remove it in the video but sometimes you buy shrimp and the vein is already out.

  • I did that but I put in some corn starch and in stead of water I added BEER!!!

  • How long do you let it cook? I want to try making tempura tomorrow, but I'm worried that the sweet potato may still be raw.

    Thanks!

  • what an endearing fellow. I must try a few of those dishes. I love Japanese food.

  • hahaha xD I love the intro and the ending you are so adorable!!! <3

I'm gonna try to make this..tho I'm kinda scared to because I'm horrible when it comes to cooking...even if I do have the ingredients and instructions xD

  • OMG PLS REMOVE THE LAST PART WHERE YOU EAT THE FOOD I DROOL!!!!
