@cutter14 I'm not sure exactly, but my guesses would be because 1. Most Americans identify themselves as Christians, 2. Our laws are based off of Judeo-Christian laws, or 3. America was founded for religious freedom and opportunity (although other religions should be represented if this is the case since America is a "Melting Pot"). I'm a Christian, but I believe that the unity of the American community comprised of many religions is one thing that makes America great! :D
@IJUSTLOVETURTLES I dissagree about changing the anthem. Perhaps it should be done though, as this is 100%American. Where as the Star Spangled Banner was written to a British tune's melody. We are not supposedly secular. That's on an individual basis of liberty as we have no state religion and no statute promoting secularism either. Removing God would be redundant, as the word appears in both tunes. You just never hear the other three verses of the Star Spangled Banner at major events.
@joker52mlb we were still british colonies when the star spangled banner (the poem) was written. it was later adapted to music that was, while british, already quite well known and liked in the colonies. The poem itself is as american as you can get being as it was written during a battle for our independence. Just because they set it a popular tune at the time (which was very common practice) is no reason to disqualify it as a national anthem.

I wont pretend my country is perfect, the politicians have disgraced its greatness and the intent of its founders, but along with its faults, its always the first and many times only country to respond when there is a call for food and medicine, or a call to defend others who are oppressed. Why the hell does EVERYTHING about your country have to be about THE TROOPS? Why is it ALWAYS about fighting, war, death? Why can't you just say you love your country without dragging the military into EVERYTHING? You have so much to be proud of, the US of A is (in my view) the greatest country in the world, the most beautiful place to live, but it's so sad the inhabitants are so army-obsessed!!!

God has blessed us so much, I'm am not of the Mormon denomonation, but anyone of any belief can see just how God has given us so much that it is hard to comprehend. Today, just think to yourself, "I could be a poverty striken African, or a restricted man living in Asia. We are SO BLESSED in America that it is overlooked. Never evertake life for granted and live it fir the glory of God because like is short but God is forver and he will forgive you no matter what you have done! :)

So beautiful. I wish this could be our National Anthem instead of the Star Spangled Banner. I like the message better and it is easier to sing, not crossing several octaves. I haven't been home for a year and a half. God Bless America!

I wont pretend my country is perfect, the politicians have disgraced its greatness and the intent of its founders, but along with its faults, its always the first and many times only country to respond when there is a call for food and medicine, or a call to defend others who are oppressed. We have given much in money, aid and lives to other countrys who dont even appreciate it once they get what they want. Now we are being eviscerated from within by our own leaders, and its our own fault.

I am becoming an angry american, we have allowed our politicians to subvert our traditions and cripple the consititution to please whining liberals and immigrants that come here for the wrong reasons. Our leaders have failed us for the most part, now its up to us to take back our traditions and freedoms. We have a lot of work to do.
