Assuming that Superman really exists; straighening the Pisa tower (Superman III) or carrying a plane (Superman Returns) are physically impossible. In the case of the Pisa tower, it could be cut in two due to Superman's force, and in the case of the plane, there wll be a bent or a hole in the fuselage, but never the plane would be raised. Superman will cause more destruction and damage rather than saving the day

Kdkmo is correct. It's called his tactile telekinesis, and it's also the only real reason he can fly. It's his bioelectric aura, super-charged by solar-radiation, and it extends whenver he carries something, like how he can catch Lois falling from a building without breaking her neck.

If you watch Superman the movie when Lois falls fromt he Helicopter you can see him fly at Lois and he slows down to catch her. He doesn't just smash into her like a rocket or a bullet would...
