Had macs for 6 years now and have never used a virus scan and have never gotten a virus. I have split drive with bootcamp and run Win7 on mac as well. I use McAfee virus scan on Win7 due to ease that I get viruses on Windows. Cheers

@PowerFusionX I hear the overpriced as one of the big draw backs of getting a Mac. Thing you have to take in consideration is the awesome phone/tech support (talking to an American in California). The various Apple stores nationwide who also do a great job fixing problems in a very timely fashion. Customer service is something that many people can't put a price on. Also software is very cheap compared to using a Windows machine. Either way someone is going to get your money.

I dont mean to attack you or call you out or anything, but it's important for people to know that $1500 will get you a higher end PC desktop, and a mid-high range PC laptop. I own a $1400 desktop computer from 2008 and it's still powerful and performs well, but, you can not play graphically intense games on it, such as GTA IV on maxed settings. Though crysis can be played on medium at 60 fps. PCs get bogged down and will be obsolete in a few years.

@randomrazr Depends on what you're using it for. Web surfing and general daily computer usage [email, facebook, myspace, music sharing/listening]? Just get the 13" or even the white MacBook. But if you're into any kind of graphic-heavy work, the i5 will suit you better, ie photoshop, video editing, music editing, etc. I fall somewhere between the two and I'm getting a 15" just to have a little extra oomph to fall back on. But, if screen size is important you can always go & buy a $30 "mini display" dongle that is either for VGA, DVI, or HDMI & buy any external monitor. The nice feature about Mac laptops is that you can set your laptop on your desk, close it, hook up an external monitor & treat it just like a desktop or open w/ dual monitors. If you run your laptop closed of course you will be paying more to have an extra keyboard and mouse. Hope that helps.

To be honest it is not worth buying a MBP imo because of how fast technology progresses.. At this age laptops become outdated/out spec in less than 3-4 yrs for typical users, and 1-2 yrs for gamers.

@aatefmagic Not the good ones. My G73 barely hits 85 in Crysis. MBP's will hit 85 with no problem and Apple's cooling policy will let the heat keep rising. This requires most MBP users that use intense applications to manually control their fan (or fans depending on the model). No MBP gets anywhere near 12 hours of real world battery life under any conditions. And there are tons of PC's that get 10+ hours of REAL world battery life.

Excellent design is subjective.

@mamerican7772 Usually they do it because the screen is better than most laptops. However, it's not hard to hunt down a laptop with a screen of equal or greater value.

Another reason is the portability and battery life.

I'm glad I didn't buy a MBP. I would have never gotten as much power out of it as my Asus G73. However, sometimes I would like the portability of the MBP. The rest of the "features" (aka gimmicks) are unimportant. And the speakers on the MBP are crap compared to what I'm used to.

I like it for quick glances at my pictures, but for editing purposes, the glossy screen is terrible along with the resolution. A 17" or a 30" cinema is the best option for editing photographs.

I adore my 17" Unibody (June 2009) but it's just soo damn huge. I do really love the 1920x1200 screen though. It's light and slim but it's a pain in the arse to pull it out at the airport through security. If I could, I'd buy a 15" for my self and let my dad keep the 17. Has your Macbook Pro ever given you an electric shock or felt tingly to the touch. Mine has done this, and I got mine on Christmas. I use the 3-pronged power adapter, so I don't why it does this. If you know anything about this or if it happens to you, please comment.

I have never had that problem. If I were you, I would either take it in to an apple store, or call apple support and send it in. Best guess is that something electrical is loose in your machine, perhaps the power line running from the adapter to your battery is frayed, but that is definitely a problem you should have looked at.

The difference is that the battery in the 17 inch last longer and it has the express card slot still. Other than those two things, it's the exact same machine. The 15 inch to me is the most perfect one. I'm using a 13 inch Macbook now and when I saw the 15 inch and tried it at the Apple Store I was sold so I'm waiting for the next update to see what Apple will bring.
