  • Thumbs up if Catfish brought you here!

  • catfish :P lol

  • Glass is overrated. Yeah I said it.

  • @goldtogreysmoke YOU FAIL!

  • @dalejrfan800 Good comment! So original, so fresh. You must have a team of writers because wow, you cut me, you cut me so deep, with your words.

  • @goldtogreysmoke Glass is overrated why? Atleast give an explaination.

  • the bear totally digs it.

  • the dot at the top off the lettet 'i' is called a tittle

  • I think there's a bird singing in the background (not heard very well). It looks like it's singing for your playing. It is even more romantic with that:)

  • Why so many people hate Phillip Glass if he's a genius?

  • Great song and great playing.

  • listen to Happy Glassday by

    Wouter Joseph Smekens!

anybody to have more information regarding this brilliant composer?

  • good playing

  • I<3U nice job mate

  • Dam thats awsome! one of my faverought songs by Philip Glass

My faverought of this video is te wee teddy at the side, XD It demmands the music! "Bow down to mwee!" :)

  • You got it down to a "T"

P.S. anyone know what the "T" Stands for?

  • @imjustachillin Toffee

You got it down to a toffee, comes from when you had to reach the toffee's to get the apples in Victorian times.

  • @imjustachillin The expression is actually "down to a tee" or, more commonly simply "to a tee". Either "tee" or "T" will do, but in any case the reference is to the LETTER of the alphabet.

This is clear when you discover the origin of the expression. It's actually a shortened form of "to a tittle", an expression in use in English by the early 17th century, with the meaning "to the smallest detail." (the variation appears by the late 17th century)

  • @swissmrkc

Thanks, the answer to a question is only easy if you know the answer.

Today, thanks to you, I have been enlightened.

p.s. I'm was not so sure about the toffee's and apple's explination. lol

  • Wondrous! Of such peace and comfort!

  • scratch that, not C major but C/G

  • Nevermind I got it.

    G# major and C major.

  • What are the two right-hand chords at 0:48-0:52?

  • weird, i have listened this song a hundred times, but this is the first time that the first part reminds me of "a warm place" by nine inch nails. must be the ascending step-wise motion in the melody

  • @condobleN shit son, you're right :S

  • Nice and great! 5*****

  • The first :09 sounds like a song from somewhere, beside ? I can't think of the name.

  • maybe it's :

Die Toten Hosen - Hier kommt Alex

    or

    Yann Tiersen - Summer 78

but i'm not sure wheter it's right

  • look up everyday by carly comando, i'm pretty sure that's what you are thinking of.

  • moonlight sonata?

  • @Cryptically lol fringe haha

  • WOW YOU ARE OUT OF THE PARK!!!

  • ARe you thinking of this?

    watch?v=Sr64NI33qUo

  • Or this? watch?v=RCObXuAwCIA

  • Jsut reminded me of those.

  • @ShatteredK Intro to 'New Born' by Muse possibly?

  • @TomMackio No...just no.

  • @ShatteredK the nba where amazing happens?

  • great stuff-

  • You play this beautifully.

But why bother, there is so much more worthy piano music waiting for you out there.

    Love the teddy bear :))

  • Why does nobody try connecting the notes a little more?

This sounds so much better if the notes flow into each other smoothly.

  • The thing is. listen to Philip Glass... This is almost perect to his playing style.

  • not bad, please watch to my piano version, who is totally different

  • Certo che i Muse hanno copiato questa canzone..

  • è vero caspita...ti riferisci a sunburn, no?

  • Bravo!

  • haha ive learnt this song, but i cant do the last 10 seconds i cant do ...it seems my hands are a tad too small or something

  • So so beautiful!

  • It was a duet numbnuts. Burkhard Dallwitz AND Philip Glass composed this piece. Anyone with a brain stem can hear the subtle simplicity of Philip Glass' emotional touch. Do your research.

  • You are, in fact, wrong. This piece is solely composed by Glass (and performed by him in the movie). While it is true that Dallwitz and Glass both contributed tracks to the soundtrack, they HAVE NOT collaborated on any of them. Most music sites like Amazon have proper credits for all tracks.

  • @Brindles09

It is you who needs to do HIS research. While it is true that both Dallwitz and Glass worked on the score, they wrote ALL of their tracks SEPARATELY. I recommend looking at the album credits and reading an interview with the director Peter Weir.

  • Ja! Sehr gut! Aber ich wollte dir noch einen Tipp geben: spiel die Notenübergänge mit dem Klavier noch ein bisschen weicher, dann wäre es vieleicht noch einen Tik besser. Spielst aber trotzdem SEHR GUT! Wirklich!

  • This sounds like Danny Elfman...,but I guess it isn't.

  • No it's from Philip Glass

  • Danny Elfman and Philip Glass both have very surreal, sometimes dark sounds. I love them both!

  • That's really beautiful, thanks for posting this.

  • Sehr gut! Du bringst das Gefühl richtig gut rüber :)

  • very nice

  • oh, thats such a sad piece.

  • i loved this, it's beautiful.

  • the end of that song is a bit like the end of ted and dougals eurovision entry.

  • this is amazing. i wish i knew how to play the piano. the only thing i can play is twinkle twinkle little star. :/

    great job! :)

  • That piano really brings out the best of this piece.

  • You really make me feel the same as Philip Glass. Congratulations from Spain!

  • You got the sheets for that?:) pleaaaaaaase :P

  • pretty. thanks for posting this

  • absolutely beautiful, thanks for posting.

  • i like your teddy bear.

  • OK now I know it, except for the ending, I don't really like that :D

  • Nice playing. May I ask how you trained your hands to be independent of each other (you know, being consistent). Thats my biggest hurdle. Id appreciate any replies thanks.

  • I think you shouldn't worry about that, because if you have the sheets, then you'll see, when to play with your right hand. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about

...I can't read sheet music, but in this case I could follow the right hand. I'll learn this piece, too.

    Good Luck!

  • It's easy, you need three things:

    1) Practice

    2) Practice

    3) More practice

  • I thought so lol. I appreciate the replies alexthshark and ttj89!

  • beautiful, thank you for sharing. Hauntingly played, I can hear it still though it has finished. thank you

  • thank you...

  • woow! that was beautiful all i can play is fur elis and i have an electric 1 lol and btw is that a yamanah?

  • truman show is one of my favorite movies, hands down, and the soundtrack has a big play in that decision. and the acting by every actor in the it.

  • Beautiful interpretation! Congrats!!

  • IMO it's too romantic; even though Glass has become more romantic during the last years, I feel it should be played more evenly, to keep the pulse going. Thanks, anyway.

  • Beautiful, I really enjoyed your playing, thank you for sharing..

    Peace

  • Oh sooo beauiful...thankyou

  • Comment removed

  • Philip Glass is indeed a genius.

  • This song sparks a feeling inside me that I cant even describe

  • I appreciated this very much! Both in the movie and here on youtube.

  • You have a lovely piano.

  • I'd kill to have a piano like that :(

  • dude, it's just a normal piano, but having a grand piano is something!

  • sounds nice, but rest of song is not good

  • wauw you move me

  • TOMI TE AMO

  • These videos arent just to shed advice, even though i luv watching which keys are pressed so that i could maybe try it myself. But, these videos are made in appreciation for the music.

Music appreciation is one thing mainstream/commercial music is beginning to forget. Producers of that scene care more about the quantity over quality to make money. More so out of commercializing the hell out of it over the course of 20 years because human behavior seems to love someone opening up their trap.

  • Great job, i love that song.

  • Great one!

  • One of my favorite songs by Philip

  • this is so beautiful; amazing job

  • I thougth the song of Carly Comando called Everyday was the song of The truman show, now I know and I remember this song watching the movie and that´s it. I like it so =).

    Watch my videos.

  • my gosh, Philip Glass is the ultimate BOREDOM champion

  • If you don't like the music, don't bother opening the video ... nevermind commenting

  • sorry, this is called democracy and I am entitled to an opinion. If you don't accept people's opinions, try a dictatorship next time.

I am not only watching this video again, but I would like to make sure my opinion is clear: holy crap, I am amazed by how boring Philip Glass is. Superficial, empty, conservative music.

  • Ok, I'll admit to a slightly fascist undertone within my previous comment.

I am merely bemused as the video is clearly named 'Philip Glass - Truman Sleeps'. If you don't like the music of Philip Glass, why open the video in the first place? Or are you just playing Devil's advocate in response to the great number of people who find his music beautiful, for the sake of democracy? You do have a choice to listen to what you please, I'm just perplexed by your ebullience to belittled Philip Glass.

  • the thing is: I do want to listen to more of his music to find out if there is anything that I can admire. I've watched several videos with his music and wanted to express my opinion on a few of them. OK, this piece was written for a film and it should be considered "effective". But let's face it: today people's emotions seem to be conditioned by Hollywood. Philip Glass himself said that his music is emotional, not intellectual. This is nonsense.

  • Unfortunately, I have found that Philip Glass is beginning to pander to popular taste and I am starting to lose interest in some of his more contemporary compositions. I would disagree that it is nonsense that his music is not emotional, but agree that it can be a stereotypical depiction of emotion. I would personally view the opera 'Einstein on the Beach' as one of his better works, I would also recommended the Violin Concerto.

  • thanks for your comments. There is a video on YT where Philip Glass talks about his music being all about emotions. Well, have you heard Ligeti's Violin concerto? That's shockingly beautiful and complex at the same time. It goes far beyond the kind of superficial emotion that Glass seems to glorify. You're right about Glass recent pieces. The music for Koyanaskatsi, for instance, has a sort of industrial quality that was quite original at the time. I admire it for that.

  • you are all hilarious. it's not that serious. (a) instrumental music that accompanies a movie is suppose to supplement the movie, not overshadow the movie. therefore, out of context, of course it's not that entertaining.

  • (b) i don't know why anyone comments on these videos. is it to provide advice to the viewer? by the time i read what you have to say, i've already starting watching the damn thing! you're opinion has no bearing on me watching the video. comment forums, in this context, are simply ways for people to feel content knowing that others share their views because people are afraid to have their own opinion on something - and keep it themselves - without sharing it with unknown internet users.

  • its a comment.

    why is not important.

    thats what you see.

an area to make a comment.

    you dont like someones comment.

so, are you trying to impress Simon? your mainstream friends. Its fucking music. Its real music IMHO, and yes i stated my opinion. Hypocrite.

  • you dont like piano music, or classical, or orchestral. thats fine. its music. break from your mainstream commercial rubbish for once, and youll begin to understand the essence of this music. without that instrumental element in movies, it would be boring as fuck wouldnt it? :)

Now think how well this music paints a picture in your own mind, and youll no longer worry anymore about whos cheatin' on who, whos hatin, whos pop lock in dropin, when you should slap your wife, whos trippin on acid.

  • whell i'm sorry but i dont agree with most of you, i love the music of movies

and in my vieuw it has a bigger role in it then most people think..

  • I definitely agree. People like to dump on film music and I don't really know why that is. I think "serious" composers are really offended by music that people enjoy.

  • Stunning + emotional music :)

  • What are the chords of the final part???

Sorry if i dont wrote that well im spanish

Cuales son los acordes del final???

  • omg is that beautiful

  • that was mesmerizing.

  • musicdivinemusic muchas gracias... por una música sin fronteras.

  • I'm sooo learning this song. Nice performance

  • well done man. Sounds beautiful.

  • Glass es un iluminado. La reiteración es un espiral que llega hasta lo más profundo de nuestro ser y vuelve a salir.

  • Longonauta, this is a wonderful comment. Allow me to translate to those who don't understand Spanish: "Glass is an enlightened man. Reiteration is a spiral that reaches the deepest core of our being, and then goes out again."

  • wat a beautiful sounding piano. well done

  • Lovely! Very good :D Love this theme.

(I have the sheet music for this song for any piano players)

  • Very well done

  • haha yea i was just watching that

  • Uhhh...no. The one featured on the Simpson's is Carly Comando's song called "Everyday". The chords are similar, but it isn't the same song.

  • Fantastic. Well done.

  • wow.. that was beautifully played. its such a powerful and moving piece. i think if you were to play it on a full grand rather than an upright the sound would be absolutely memorizing. i still havent found the sheet music for this, but ill keep lookin.. 5 stars

  • good

  • Very nice, you play very well.

  • Thanks for this! I just got into Glass, I love your playing.

  • I want that music! Where can I get it?

  • Well done. Great playing.

  • wonderful where did you find the scores?

    bye

  • simple piece but amazing one :) relaxing ,,,,

  • Hallo!

  • Simply astonishing and astonishing simple. Everytime I listen to this song, I am waiting for a big break-out.. but it keeps its volume and its softness.

  • well played. I dont like the way the closure to this piece however - Glass must have got fed up with it and just threw some notes down to fil up the score. They dont follow very well all thise chords at the end I feel.

  • I agree. I was thinking about it however and I realized it may be to support a loop.

  • Wow,, you play it better than the original :)

  • Amazing :) Great job !

  • Could you write out the right hand notes?

  • just learnt this :D

    well played!

  • Can't get any better than that.. Well Played

i picked it up in two days.

  • I'd kill a man to be able to play that, I love it!!! AND I LOVE THE TRUMAN SHOW WHOOP WHOOP!!!!!!!!!

  • Just play it by ear...takes a little bit if you've never done it before, but this is a great song to start with...starts in F minor.

  • Where did you get the sheet music for this song? I've been looking forever!

  • love it!

  • brava e bellissima canzone...
