The problem is that the desk was too close to the newsroom, cameras make it much bigger than it really is and therefore, the noises of a newsroom in normal operation were too loud. It made working during a breaking story very difficult and keep it quiet enough for broadcast.
Thanks mate, I've been searching for 1987 QTQ for ages. Interesting this was the first year QTQ dominated the news ratings and all this with a new news studio. Interesting silence at the start. I thought the voice over from Ken Sparkes said 'From the Channel Nine Newsroom...This is National Nine News"
