@3drican I should have mentioned you are also absolutely right about swollen heads. It's seems like the more they show off the more they show you how little they know! Jaja
I agree it is easy, but maybe not for the newbie or non-musician. But I have to say that what I said has alot of truth. Many do have a swollen head and think they are God's gift to the planet when in reality they are not. I am a percussionist born in Puerto Rico and grew up with many humble musician but also came across many comemierdas that thought they knew it all. I grew up with Giovanni who is one of the best conga players in the world yet he is a very humble down to earth person.
@3drican I know the guy playing congas Charlie Chavez and he is a lot like Giovanni "a very humble down to earth person" this guy spends so much time giving and and supporting tons of amateur musicians all the time. He is a great teacher and constantly learning from his own students. I think it's OK to change things up and explore. Musicians do it all the time. I work with Sheila, Poncho and a ton of other percussionists and I wouldn't exactly say they are show offs.
eventho it is used at times, sometimes they get the inspiration from trying to seem better than others, so they complicate things for the average player. I would have kept it simple just to get something going that makes sense, and not try to make it complicated just to show off. In Puerto Rico there are so many conga players that do this to try and stand out, in many instances shunning what you are doing to try and make you look stupid.
I respect that since you know him and I don't. But he sure brought up memories.
