  • Please ignore these guys.... they have no idea what they are doing. Do not waste your money tiling over this substrate. I have yet to see a DIY installation that has any basis in the tile industry. DIY should be ashamed and homeowners beware. It couldn't be that hard to read the installation instructions of the products they're using before they start recording.

  • I once built a really crappy birdhouse in shop class, but even I know these guys are idiots.

  • Can not believe these guys get paid to do this, and give you the wrong information. Refer to any Durock installation guide and you'll see that you are to use a multi-purpose thinset to adhere the cement board to the subfloor. 100% coverage as well. Caulk will NOT hold it, and will create an air gap which will crack the tile when the subfloor itself moves. These guys are wrong! Do NOT do it this way.

  • how in the world these idiots created the pitch?ohohoh it does not need one 'cause they have to go back and fix it again and charge the costumer. hey guys just inform yourself a little before you post these kind of bs online

  • okay , well , 1st off ; it's not called " Wonder Board ",It's called : Hardie Backer, or Backer Board.2ndly,if you've ever scoured drywall with a razor knife, then you know that your blade only last's for about 4-5 long cuts, now, compare that softened drywall ( Gypsum Board ) to actually using a razor knife to scour cement board of any type, doesn't really add up there folk's! Okay,so, let's see,now we're going to use tar caulking?W.T.F. for ?All tar does is emit poisonous gases .Makes no sense.

  • DIY Network is a joke.

  • Yeah, its amazing that someone can be so sure they are doing something right that they make a video of it. This video shows that they do not know what they are doing. This is a perfect example that shows how millions of people pay good money everyday to have something done wrong. And this is why I do everything myself when I can.

  • That screw went into a hole !!.

  • Hows it fit jonny you cowboy

  • these guys actually getting paid for this.

  • This video is a wealth of bad information. If I saw that guy use caulk on the back of the cement board and then drop it to my bathroom floor I would have fired him on the spot. I'm so glad I don't have cable if this is the quality of the DIY videos on it.

  • wern't you suposed to use another type of backing board since it's the bathroom floor?

  • No slope? No waterproof membrane? Yikes!

  • @NomDeToob

    Isn't house flipping fun.

It makes me wonder how many houses that have been flipped in recent times will be back on the market shortly and how many if simply fall apart. This is a TV show "teaching" people "how to", right?

I wonder if the misinformation is open for a class action case.

  • Yeah make sure that you use galvanized finish nails to secure each panel. on 12" centers.

  • That's wrong! As a tile contractor for over 15 years I'm telling you his little caulk job that went under the Cement board isn't good enough. It needs to be set in thinset.

  • I agree gaudy28. Install the whole board in thin set and also fiber mesh tape/thinset all the joints. That little caulk made me laugh out loud.

  • walls move on the second floor a mortar bed is as useless as tile grout for a water joint.

  • @gaudy28 Can I attach a cement board to a plastered brick wall using thinset + tapcon sscrews? Then tile it...

  • @gaudy28 why it needs to be in thinset?

  • there is a durock knife or wonderboard knife you want to use, not drywall blade.....Durock/ Wonderboard eats up blades like no tomorrow.

  • actually yo can do a whole room with 3 blades, at 10 cents apeice big deal.

  • can u use regular drywall screws for the board.

  • yes you can, however they tend to rust, not good long term.....usually Home Depot carries these screws, and they go by brand name of Rock-It

  • were do u get that??

  • anywhere. lowe's home depot any builders supply
