  • Ok . . . gotta say it . . . I'm not sure there is such thing as a "wrong costume" in this case. I'm not sure the Major General would even care about following the military uniform of the time. Besides, if you never saw OLIVER, you would have never seen the similarity. Although, there is a simple answer for the costume = you use what you can afford.

  • Definitely one of my favorite parts of the whole play. Matt Thomas, if you're watching this, I'm not sure if that was the best place to put your dagger.

  • wow dude you need to calm down...stop freakin out it was good i thought....who cares...geez

  • What the hell... that's Mr Bumble from Oliver! Or at least his costume... who chose that costume? Its the wrong time period too!

  • @TRWolf

Wrong costume, yes, but not the wrong time period.

The Pirates of Penzance is set during the reign of Queen Victoria, as is Oliver Twist - the Major General is merely wearing the wrong costume!

(At the end of Pirates, the Sgt. of Police calls on the Pirate King to surrender 'in Queen Victoria's name; Dickens wrote Oliver Twist as a protest against the Victorian Welfare State.)

  • Definitely wrong costume.
