Not that long ago I might have agreed with most of your argument. But one thing I wasn't considering was how many innocent people may be on death row. Since it is impossible to be 100% sure in every case, the state should not be taking life. The standard of "reasonable doubt" is simply not high enough.
I agree with almost everything you said, however I could do without lethal injection, hanging, etc. I feel that whatever means the offender used on his/her victim should be used against the offender. If you were to stab someone in the gut and they die in excruciating pain, so should the person who committed the crime. It would be harder for the public to cry, "cruel and unusual" when it's the exact method used by the killer. Preach on brother.

Not to mention it cost me more money with their damn appeals which are dragged for an average of 10 years per person. Thats 20,000 more per year for each person on death row.

They receive food, water, shelter, and medication; the same rights that they took from their victims. They even receive heart and liver transplants, which thousands of innocent people are waiting in hospitals for. I would like to know what the physicians at these prisons are feeling about having to care for these scum.

I would have to say that the death penalty is a good thing. People who do things that warrant such a punishment deserve to made examples of and in a state where it is enforced, statically crimes of that nature go down, people fear death, so death as a punishment is a GREAT reason not to kill people!

Speaking as a neice of a victim of murder, I personally never wanted to see "justice" as you said, despite the fact that he killed my aunt. My aunt's murderer, killed himself before he was caught, but personally I would have loved to see him rot away in prison, rather than getting an out by being killed.
I can agree with seeing it as an "out" for murder. But really, if we let them rot away in prison, we're paying for them to do so. Would you really want your tax dollars going to feed, clothe, house and sustain the person who murdered someone in your family?
