  • he's SO different here to how he is now

  • I admire him so much <3 <3

  • I could listen to him say desire over and over :)

  • im so in love with him

  • I think he's someone more than human. . .

  • WOW! "I made the record for myself, and then let it out into the world. It's like have children..."

That is music, what so many other "musicians" lack.

    Thank you Damien Rice

  • He's so true... I feel I can see trough him, and I feel him so close... that's why I love him so F***** much... I know it's impossible... but I'll keep on dreaming

  • his last name must be MUSIC

  • the title must be '' An interview with MUSIC ''

  • The thing he said about the society structure, education, job etc. That's exactly what i think, its amazing. You can have so much in common with someone you will never meet. I love this man, his music saved my life.

  • this interview is so inspiring.

  • I am glad I will never have the chance of meeting this man in person, for I'd become as madly in love with him as I am with his music...

  • am with you there i am absolutely obseeses with jis music

  • what an amazing guy! love this!

  • Actually. in the scheme of things, he sounds like a twat.

  • OMG I fell in love with him

  • What is the song that's on last anyone? It's amazing and I can't seem to find it anywhere :( x

  • @westwoodxo

    I think it's ''I remember'' on the album ''O'', pretty certain :)

  • @calumraymundo Thanks, you're right! I was assuming it was on 9 cos it was heavier x

  • " i feel misunderstood in my whole life...but then..that's something for me to challenge for me because i'm sure that i'm misunderstood the other people" Great :)

  • "its like older chests, sorry to extend a bit"

oh my gosh did he just apologise for talking more? i'd actually pay him to talk more...

  • aww he's so cute I love his music

  • he is the best man in this world! the most perfect human being....

  • what a great person

  • one of my favourite music acts ever.

  • "I just learned to trust in life". Teach me!

  • Is he talking bollocks.. or reality? Probably bollocks.

  • guys a dick

  • @andrewl5201 Your a dick

  • Comment removed

  • @andrewl5201 hes right your a dick

  • @andrewl5201 dick

  • This is definitely if not my favorite, one of my favorite, interviews with Damien Rice. He is simply fantastic. I will see him live one day, I will.

  • I love his irish accent so bad! when I hear someone speaking english I usually don't understand a single word but in this case it's all very clear for me. It's wonderful. And what a talented and interesting guy! Love his music, and the person behind it

  • Trainspotting reference?

  • What a wonderful insight to the man

  • "i've felt misunderstood my whole life. But that's a challenge to me because i'm sure i misunderstand other people as well. and i'm fine with that now."

  • Men,man....well good man! My man! :( <3 :D

Im gonna find u one day...haha

  • i always look up interviews of damien rice when i'm upset, life is so much clearer when i hear that voice talk about what life is really all about.

  • Damn! u r such a genius!

  • If I will someday go to heaven and meet the Lord,,,I want forget to thank him for Damien....:)

  • A very very great singer!

  • wat kinda name is damien its stupid

  • @MrPissbag

What kind of grammar is "wat", "its", and the lack of commas? It's stupid.

  • He's a lot like Jason Mraz, but less surreal.

  • @Nickpatient he is so so so sooooo much better...

  • @rockgirl236 I mean in his views. You can't compare their music as it is so diffrent.

  • @Nickpatient

hahahaha he's a lot more surreal than mraz.

  • garbage Damien

  • He is so damn intelligent! :)

  • accent, accent, accent... i could listen to him all day.

  • Is the most normal guy ever...

  • It's important for artist like him to stay underared and off the grid. He's a true artist and for him to be a big name he'd have to appeal to the masses(watered down, unorignal and "marketable" ) that's what happens to good artists, i.e John Mayer. That industry inviornment isn't good for real people who have real talent. Listen to the radio. Ppl like Rice don't get played. Lil Wayne does-he appeals to the masses not Rice. Stay underground and keep ur soul.

  • Jelloxox, true as you say, may not hold principle to all artists, for Bob dylan did whatever he wanted to being such a large icon to people and remained an amazing artist....

  • @bluebomberries I always find it amazing when a few great artist figure out or manage to do that. Its remarkable really.

  • I do get what you mean but Damien is really really well known, I wouldn't say he's underground and I've definitely heard him on the radio before but he hasn't released a new single in ages. But, I think the fact he's well known and the fact he's still doing what he's doing with the same honesty is more remarkable than someone just staying 'underground' :).

  • hate his split with lisa...

  • He's talking Pony!

  • underrated.

  • He's Beautiful:) his lyrics are amazing! his very poetic and his voice is awesome!

  • that´s amazing sometimes life can be cold but you have to face your fears and you have to look around you and see how beautiful is our lives...... i know that sometimes life can seem like we do the same things day by day but the beauty is you change the way you see all the things around you .

  • his accent is so cute.

  • haha, right on. everyone has to make their career out of something i guess.

  • fell in love with him .

    me apaixonei por ele .

  • thx for posting this great interview... a "normal" person talking without bad modesty... appreciate*** KenavO

  • whatta wonderful person

  • I adore him! simply adore him!

  • I'm pretty sure I'd even enjoy listening to him do the weather :)

  • whats the name of the rist song ?

  • 1:05 is so true! i never really thought of it like that lol. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH X

  • he doesn't want to be famous, just let people her his music, why do you think he only does a "small" concert?

  • he feeds my soul : )

  • i think, that if i met him, we would talk for all night. great guy, great music.

  • He should be more famous:)I really like him. Great Guy.Brilliant artist.

  • Nooo... I think Damien will be very unhappy when he got more famous. That's just not Damien-like. Like he says at 1:58

  • wow, such a great guy :D

  • I love the way he describes the things with his finger :D

    especially at 2:59

  • All of that was halarious.

  • 6 minutes into it. Soo true haha!! I

  • i love damien rice...

but (i know im gonna get thumbs down...) it's kinda weird that he doesn't believe anything he reads in the newspaper...

he kinda reminds me to be Christopher McCandless...

the guy who went out, forget about society, screw everything that represents stability (like he said'go to school go to college, work ect.)

i don't buy it... if he really felt that way, he wouldn't be making records

  • legend, genuis.

  • does he have a girlfriend? he is sooooooooooooooo awesome.

    i love him!

  • anyone heard anything about a new album on the way?

  • i fell in love with his songs in O, now 6 years later upon seeing this, i have fallen in love with him. :(

  • yeah he looks very like my friend aswell just an ordinary guy. with great talents. as an irish guy he does relate to me more than other singers that voice its great

  • This man is not a star. And I love it.

He is famous, but at the same time, so calm, quiet, openminded.

I can feel that in a way he is like me and that's why I love his music, appearance and... his voice (:

  • He's so comforting :-)

  • He seems to be very nice person. So kind and so funny. His songs make me feel there's so much beauty inside of him.

  • Best songwriter Ive ever heard, that's a FACT!

  • waiting for you to come to Portugal...

  • i love him i really do and hes a brilliant inspiration to me and my best friend.. but count the number of times he says the word change in the first few minutes hahahhaha... endearing :D

  • Never has a musician affected me as greatly as Damien Rice has, and I'm sure none will in the future

  • @moosedog312 I absolutely agree

  • @moosedog312 me too

  • @moosedog312 this is the man who started me on indie music. without him i wouldn't have my band he even helped me pick the name. god bless his deeply passionate soul.

  • This man is the most beautiful human being in the world.

  • @tintskukka one of the most...

  • @tintskukka Couldn't agree with you more.

  • Ohhh, gracinhaaaa....

  • Damien Brent

  • Hey Rammie this is March 11, 2004... not April 2 ;)

  • I'd love to hear a recent interview....

primarily, to see how much he has changed in 5 years. His views and notions...etc.

He better have a knew album on the horizon.

  • I love his accent. Ugh!! So sexy.

  • He's from my hometown!

  • i totally agree, she is great

  • "'It's not hard to grow when you know that you just don't know'...I know that I know nothing."

That's called humility, fionndempsey, you should try it sometime. (Hmm...didn't I hear that idea expressed somewhere else once...some ancient Greek guy? Guess what? I have a degree in philosophy too.) Like a lot of intellectuals, you confuse intellectualism with wisdom. It's a common malady in academia that has no cure except a heaping dose of Get Over Yourself.

  • well said!

  • I'm in love. This guy is so AMAZING

  • im proud of you sony. as much as you want as less as you can.

  • He's definitely one of my inspirations when i write my songs...

  • I really love damien rice, The lyrical and musical composition in each song is so touching to me. You don't really find music like this anymore

    IMAO LOL !!!

  • Im a musician and i have a lot of respect for damien rice, i think he's one of the guys that represents, that one of things that music is about is expression.

  • looking it up in a history book. don't want to go overboard. If I lived in Ireland I'd take you out for a pint.

  • All philosophy takes us to death : D lets hurry! lol

  • I like to think of my self as a fairly sharp kid. I read, write and am a free thinker but I'm not vain, that's what you are.

  • You probably are a sharp individual.

But I was interjecting here in defense of the idea that philosophy isn't some emotionally earnest, banalism, spoken with the air of a wiseman. It isn't a case of vanity. I'd like nothing better then for people not to take his bull seriously.

  • I see your point Fionn, personally I don't take Damien's outlook on life but he does bring up quite a few things that I can identify with. I don't think it's all bullshit , I just think you have to sort through the bullshit like when you listen to anyone in life. It's what I do with religion ( no offense if your a religious man) but there are alot of things that are bullshit ( for lack of a better term) in every religion. People are told to take made up stories litterally as opposed to maybe

  • who cares if he's a philosopher or not? his music is beautiful. so who are you fighting against? he's not a self proclaimed philosopher. he's a lovely guy.

  • Well, if you read back over the comments, you'll see that I was responding to people who said things like:

    "Quite the philosopher."

    "He's so deep"

    "interesting and philosophical"

    "he just opened my eyes"

    Those people.

The reason I'm saying what I am is that it is distressing that "lovely guys" like Damien have the gullible ear of a vast amount of people, and yet evidence an incredible poverty of actual wisdom. It's an incestuous cult of well-meaning, cliched nonsense.

  • It's relative. if people are inspired by what he says, how is that a bad thing? its selective. you can choose to apply things to your life if you see so fit.Philosophy is not written in stone.much like art it can be interpreted in different ways. by the individual... and ultimately applied to different circumstances.

  • Philosophy is the Art of living"

These days I've been listening to Damien rice a lot and it strikes me a lot Via words and lyrics and the personality he has....its jst inspiring as the next bob dylan in the show....who shall steal the show onwards...if u remember " later. -Ashish Jan 03'09 sydney

  • What album was this interview after?

  • He's a mystic in search of the Philosopher's Stone in the mold of Van the Man. God bless them both.

  • What's the title of this interview?

    Who did it?

  • He just opened my eyes.

  • I think we could learn a lot from him.

    Also he plays beautifull music!

  • hell yea! trust in life and live your life by making the little person within your skin happy and beautiful.

  • I can learn so much from him!!

  • he's so cute. he says ugly like ooogly. :)

  • Wow, quite the philosopher.

  • I agree.

  • Do you actually know what philosophers do?

This isn't philosophy. It's just running the mouth. It's meaningless drivel.

  • this is fascinating. ive always loved damien rices music but never really tried to find out about him as a person because i always thought he was just the typically commercial good looking singer. how wrong i was. hes actually genuinely thoughtful, interesting and philosophical. This gives me faith in his music even more than i previously had.

  • no way, his Juniper band was that, he went off on his own & wasn't comercial then.

  • i love damien. i want 2 marry him. iwill giv it all up 4 him

  • This guy is a fucking sweetheart, not to mention immensely talented.

  • "a great listener as he is a great talker"

he's just wary of the stuff going around his world everyday

  • doesn't Damien Rice kick Jack Johnson's ass?

    I do believe so.

  • his accent is so hott!

  • he's talking like he doesn't really know what he's saying

  • lol it's called being a musician i talk the same way about my music and philosphy

  • yup for sure. sometimes words can't exactly explain what your trynna say specially with music :)

  • hes actually well clued in to what hes sayn but some times when uv so much knowalge and experience in ya it can be hard to articulate what your sayn but if ur on the same wave lenght as he is u will totaly get it

some day in years to come u might stumble on this again and think oooooooooooo this is wat he ment

coz its happened to me a few times lol

  • I understand what he's saying, it just sounds like he's over excited and he's word vomiting.

  • What a load of bullshit. He hasn't a clue what he's talking about. He's making it up as he goes along.

  • will you ever shut the fuck up!he is a brillant musician!

  • it's called an interview, which requires talking a lot, and if you don't like it nobody needs to know and nobody cares.

  • yeah u r so right!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @deedelany Ha I knew you were Irish as soon as I read your comment, typical negative paddy.

  • I am so glad I watched this. That little segment that he does about what society thinks we all need to be happy is what ive been telling people for years!!!!!! " but marriage, kids, a house, and a car wont make ME happy" : ) : )

  • he is gorgeous!

  • I understand u!!!!! Sei grandioso

  • sexy voice

  • he's not that dull as i thought...actually kinda funny but really deep yes

  • i wish i could write songs like him...those 4 chords have never sounded so good

  • I am in love with this man.

  • fair criticism

  • i think damien is right up there with jeff buckley/nick drake/dylan! i love every thing he plays and says! a true ledgend! he makes alot of sense to me!

  • i think damien is right up there with jeff buckley/nick drake/dylan! i love every thing he plays and says! a true ledgend! he makes alot of sense to me!

  • Love him, a true original

  • hi!can you tell me what he says about?

  • i love his spirit.
