That was a brilliant angle - presenting him as a nobody and he goes off on an unbeaten tear to become champion. Normally, they begin hyping up a new wrestler months in advance of their debut. It's so predictable. Nobody saw Goldberg's popularity coming.

When The Rock returned to Raw on 2/14, one point he made was how the WWE changed from catch phrases from Stone Cold and himself to "You can't see me" from John Cena. Wrestling is certainly not like it was because of the liability during the attitude era.
Goldberg is proof that some(hell many) wrestlers can not be made with silly gimmicks,storylines or entrances.They have to get over in the ring.Goldberg didnt have a flash move set nor did he have flashy attire.He was strong as hell,he had regular ring trunks and he was simply in the right company.
I loved the way that WCW did this. Although Goldberg was obviously a little too big to be a jobber, they only played Morrus' intro and presented this as a squash match went wrong.
It's cool amogst the IWC to always point out the silly things WCW did, but I wish more people would defend them on the things they did right.

Chad, Bischoff WAS a good writer! But he's ALSO 1 reason WCW REALLY died! Ted Turner gave him an OPEN CHECKBOOK, an Bischoff gave the wrestlers GUARENTEED SALARIES, while wwf gave them PERCENTAGES of the take at the gate and PPV, depending on where you were on the card, main event, mid card wrestler or what. But Bischoff more than DOUBLED the money some of those wrestlers got from wwf. And like I said, it was GUARENTEED! And the contracts were like about 2 years or more, some were less.

That was first time Morrus gained respect from both fans and other wrestlers. Goldberg then took a mic and said immortal words: "Hey, Goldberg's streak had to start somewhere, my friend". From then on Goldberg and Morrus have become very close friends both on and off screen and that lasts to this day
I read somewhere that before he was "Goldberg" Bill was a jobber in WCW. I read that he lost to Vincent on Saturday Night. I also read he had a match against Roddy Piper and he had long red hair.

I would agree that wresting is preplanned but I bet the blood and sweat including injuries and the performance errors resulting in handicaps and the dexterity involved is NOT fake. Jesus Christ, look how skinny Goldberg looked here compared to his days in the late 90's and early 00's. You can always tell if a guy is bigger or smaller in comparison by looking at two things: his neck (does he have one?..) and his ears (how small are they compared to the rest of his head?). Take a look at Kurt Angle these days for a shocker.

Goldberg is not returning to wrestling. He is the host of a tv show on Fox8 and interviews fighters in the UFC. He has lost so much weight but is still a good guy.He did say he was thinking about getting back into shape again.

I heard he's coming back to wrestling in 2009. Not sure in what capacity or organization as I haven't been following wrestling for some time and just now starting to check out older vids on youtube...good stuff.
He thought about TNA if he got creative control and the money he wanted. But he's still involved with his charities, acting, and is into classic musclecars.
I remember that match so well. One of the best debuts of all time. I was a Goldberg fan from that moment on. Morris made Goldberg look like a pimp.
I liked Morris and when I saw Goldberg kick out of the moonsault and then man handle the big man and then hit him with the jackhammer was very exciting. Thanks for posting

Jesus Christ, look how skinny Goldberg looked here compared to his days in the late 90's and early 00's. You can always tell if a guy is bigger or smaller in comparison by looking at two things: his neck (does he have one?..) and his ears (how small are they compared to the rest of his head?). Take a look at Kurt Angle these days for a shocker.

Take nothing away from Hugh Morrus. For a big guy, he was quite the gifted athlete. Goldberg's first opponent wasn't exactly a scrub.

Goldberg is not returning to wrestling. He is the host of a tv show on Fox8 and interviews fighters in the UFC. He has lost so much weight but is still a good guy.He did say he was thinking about getting back into shape again.

I heard he's coming back to wrestling in 2009. Not sure in what capacity or organization as I haven't been following wrestling for some time and just now starting to check out older vids on youtube...good stuff.

I remember that match so well. One of the best debuts of all time. I was a Goldberg fan from that moment on. Morris made Goldberg look like a pimp.
I liked Morris and when I saw Goldberg kick out of the moonsault and then man handle the big man and then hit him with the jackhammer was very exciting. Thanks for posting
