Hey! I found this exact game online and played it. At the end of world 8-4...there is no walkway to get to Bowser at the end!! The hole is over a screen long, so it cant be jumped over!! Is this a glitch, or just a giant middle finger from the game creator to the player who took time to play his game and get to the end?? Do you know?

It's a bug. I fixed it a while back and I'm pretty sure that the version for download on my website is fixed. But some sites have the old version instead.

It reminds me a bit of 3 since it uses some of the SMB3 graphics (floor tiles, Goombas) and stage 1-3 kinda uses some trickery to imitate an auto-scroll level, which were pretty common in 3. Obviously though this game has a lot more in common with the first though.

Well, finally I've stumbled upon somebody who can hack and make half-decent levels. You'd think more people that learned how to hack would know how to make fun levels, but this is one of the first smb hacks I've seen that I want to play. Which brings up the question: could you provide a link? I tried following the instructions, but something along the way isn't quite working, and I can't get to the site. I'll keep trying, but in the meantime, a link would help. Either way, great job!

i think i played your hack. i know i've played several with updsated graphics and years added to the title ;) so many roms borrow from others that it's impossible to track down the original person and get permission. i did borrow the bricks from somewhere (i think i modified thema bit?) but i'm pretty sure i actually used the smb3 rom to get the goomba and block graphics.

Totally possible, I took the sprites from SMB3, but in those days you couldn't just copy and paste the sprites, I had drawn them all on grid paper and redone on the SMB1 rom!

i had a completely modern, open-source PC version in the works, but i quit working on it. it was to be a 1:1 copy of the NES version, with options for graphics and map packs, etc. plus a map editor and support for new features as well. i REALLY wanted to do it, but it just takes so much time.
