No Ryan had a disease related to his blood and had to receive blood transfusion and received the HIV virus through the transfusions. Since then the WHO (World Health Organization) has made stricter guidelines for blood testing. Therefore the blood transfusions now are much safer from HIV and Hepatitis and other blood borne diseases.

bcaddict im from kokomo. However I guess i dont fit in to your example because i was not alive at the time and i most definately think he was done wrong
At one time he told his mom, just as you are protecting me, they are protecting thjeir kids. (I read it online- Jeanne White said herself) Early 1980's- AIDS was new
I just read his book yesterday.. I have seen the movie many times. But to read a book in his own words was amazing. I would loved to have met this young man. I remember growing up I wanted to learn all about him. So i was always watching his interviews. HE IS A TRUE HERO.
His candle burned out long before his legend ever did", I was 8 when he died- didn't know about him till the movie came on after his death. Read the book & watched movie many times (own both)
I remember when all this happened, too. I really never thought that Ryan was going to die- hard to believe he's been gone 19 years now. What's really stunning is if you google his name, you'll find there are still some ignorant hicks in Kokomo who still deny that he and his family were done wrong.
I remember when this story hit the airways living in Indiana I felt like we as a state among graet peole let up on a young man because people where scared..I always said think how scared he must be..A major targedy..The childs museum in Indy has a very nice memorial tribute for many to see and learn about.

I love the pic of Ryan and his mom. People wonder where Ryan got his strength. I say he got it from his mother.
