at school, when this was my favourite band.. no debauchery for me at that age like richard from ucl.. but listened to these albums over and over and saw them on tour at the barrowlands. wanted to see them since wasn't sure if they would be around forever. and they did disappear. That's bad .. because Matt johnson is amazing
I can rember listening to this track and others everyday and night. lights off blaring in my headphones. this track seemed profound to me at the time. It still does in a way. always will do. love everything about THE THE n Mtt Johnson. yep i even changed my name to matt johnson
great song from my student years - awful memories of unread books, drunken nights and margaret thatcher....good memories of ucl, london in the 80s, casual sex...being young.
There is also version of this song called "the original version", different from the album. It was available on a UK 12" with the remix of Soul Mining as the A side. I know because I have it here. Been searching for a digital copy for ages.
Hello, "The The"(Mr Matt Johnson) without question made some of the best music ever to be heard or at least to be heard starting in the 80's. Music decades ahead of it's time not only from a lyrical view point but also musically with mind blowing complex structures and ingenious quasi tonal shifting ambience. Combined with his incredible voice, a style of music was created so unique that to this day we haven't heard anything come close AnDrew
this album is one of my favorite albums of all times...hands down

I'm just a symptom of the moral decay,
That's gnawing at the heart of the country.
Great track.

It is "leads to the garbage heap of despair"
Very clearly so...
